yo freakin nice faq ...

I was waiting for some time now to make my advanced av pack a bit more expandable ... I want to use a scart connection instead of the s-vhs one for better picture quality, but before I start modding the biatch I would like to know if I have to run any extra wires from the AVIP connector.

Also thinking of including a vga plug... might be useful ! got a lm1881n just lying around here (lucky me smile.gif.

the product I would like to out come is to addition of the av pack is : vga + scart rgb + analog digital out

help would be appriciated smile.gif

The MS Advanced AV pack already has RGB Scart smile.gif It is what I currently use for my TV set.

My local electronics store has them, if you cannot find them, use a potentiometer or as close as possible (anything 550-700k should be fine) 620k's are as common as dogs muck, they will do fine.

I can't believe people have problems finding components. Maplins, RS, Farnell and CPC are places selling EVERY resistor. I just bought 10x680k for 30p from CPC order code - REMFR4680K

I don't understand your schematics...do they describe an xbox/vga connector or do they describe the pins for every connector...because I need to make connectors for toslink/spdif...
And can I get a lm1881n from radioshack?

Hmmmm... This all makes for an interesting read, but I have another idea....

My 21" monitor has 5 x BNC connectors for video input... now what's involved in trying to get that going with an adapter?

maybe SCART -> BNC adapter?

Suggestions? comments?

You could either get a HDTV pack & buy a component to BNC cable, or wire BNC connectors straight off the AVIP (mount them in an advanced a/v pack or HDTV pack if you wish).

Q: Do I HAVE to have a HDTV / Advanced AV pack to make a VGA cable?
A: No. All you need is the AVIP connector from ANY Xbox AV cable. The main reason I would choose an Advanced A/V or HDTV pack is because it has a small box a few inches from the AVIP connector end which can be used to house new connections such as a female VGA connector easily.

As far as i know, if you want to be able to access the higher resolutions of 720p and 1080i you have to use an HD pack when modding for vga.  With any other cable, that is used for modding, only 480p is possible.

Foe Hammer, what do you mean by access too 720p and 1080i? Are you suggesting that the options don't appear in the menu or simply that, even if selected, they are not enabled. I ask because with my mod I have access to all and have played Soul Calibur 2 in 720p as far as I am aware.

Interesting......

This can actually be done without a HD pack, you just need to join pins 11-12 and 13-14 on the AVIP. You can then select 480p/720p/1080i smile.gif

The VGA mode is enabled by grounding pin 9 and pin 13. However in order to enable 480p, 720p and 1080i you need to ground pin 11 and pin 13. This setting gives Y,YPr,YPb. Once you have enable the progressive video modes you switch back to VGA mode.

L33,

I've read your FAQ and tutorial page.  Thanks much!  Just wondering if you could confirm one thing please:

If I have BNC connectors on my monitor do I still need to build the "LM1881 Sync separator circuit"?  Or do I ONLY need a component-to-BNC cable?

Thanks!

Unfortunately my moniors do not have BNC inputs so I havent been able to experiment, but as far as I know it depends if your monitor supports Sync on green smile.gif Check the link in the FAQ and see if your monitor is in the list, or check your monitor's user manual or manufacturers website.

then i set progressive (trought black screen - like tutorial do-)
then set only pin 9 and 13 to gnd for come back to VGA moode!
it is rigth?
if it is, why i don't see in progressive?
why i don't see ms dash?
why i don't see evox dash?

i have no vga bios installed,it is necessary?
i tried Jet set radio and it works(but in 480i)
why all other games don't works?
please help me!

Was your xbox in NTSC mode before you tried to change to HDTV mode? Also are you using a VGA-enabled bios? The MS dash is not progressive scan enabled (unless you hex edit it), EvoX is. I'm not sure if JSRF supports 480p, but it should do.

Not unless that's part of the original MS bios (my guess is no).

So, I should probably readdress this issue after I've installed a mod chip?

Yes you'll need a VGA bios to correct the H & V sync signals and colours.
Also have you set the pins on the HDTV pack to VGA mode? (connect pin 9 to 10, and 13 to 14).

Hi, I have install a VGA port onto my V1.0 Xbox using L33's TUT withn LM1881.  I am using PIXEL8 bios. I have a problem with the output. it seem like there there is a layer of green on the screen although it is showing full color.

I did some expreriments on it and notices something.
I took out the red and green cables - I can see a "Dim" blue screen
I took out the blue and green cables - I can see a "Dim" red screen
I took out the red and blue cables - I can see a "Bright" Green screen

So i think the problem is that the Green signal is too strong that is why it left a green filter on the screen eventhough it is showing color. can any one help me to fix it?

I have use all the correct part memtion in the tut, however, i only have a 660Ko resistor.

Thanks

Note that although I have spent a lot of time with an oscilloscope and multimeter to obtain this pinout, I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy

L33, I'll vouch your AVIP pinout is pretty accurate, based on my own multimeter readouts and finding the grounds on the same pins as you, and based on an observation by "bunnie"...2 pins have longer leads in the connector (pins 1 and 24) for hot connection (power before data)...

Ok fellas, let see them pictures of your vga setup and solder jobs!

on another note...  just a little recommendation in your schematic, could you label each picture to tell what is up or down and upright or on its back. That really didn't make any sense, but I don't know how to explain it.

For example, your IC.. from your pinout, is that the pinout from the datasheet (i.e. pin #1 is where the circle is.), and the same for vga connector. I am going to be using a female end from a vga extension cable. Does the same pinout from your male connector still apply in my case or do I reverse it?
