The xbox itself should play music from a CD if I am not mistaken ( and it will do so for sure if you rip the music to your HD)...

yea it has but every time i run the ms dashbord i keep getting an error saying that the xbox needs a service and i have to reboot back to the evoX dashboard

Thats because you nead to link your ms dashboard so you can launch it from evox. There is a tutorial on This (its pinned) heres the link.

Looking cd-player too , cause my hd is unlockable  (80Gb Maxtor)
