Title: Progressive Scan Patcher?
Post by: PsychoZX on November 15, 2003, 01:20:00 PM
No you don't need to patch official xbox games. TThey either have progressive scan support or not. You can't add it with the progressive scan patcher. Thats mainly for the xbox dashboard so you can watch dvds in progressive scan.

Almost every xbox game is 480p - there are a few that are not and there has been some success in manually editing the hex code on the xbe for several of the games.  The guy who was really good at it was on a different xbox forum though from what I recall but he was decent at sniffing out the right code and keeping track of them for people.

Anyway, patching the xbox dash for progressive DVD and/or just to make it look better is in a link to my signature.  The code is easy to apply and takes only a few minutes.  It is compatible with all original and updated Live dashes should you wish to try it.  Keep in mind you need to have an HDTV or enhanced definition tv to display 480p.

You have no component inputs that support 480i?  Wow, I've seen lot's of TVs where different ones are either one or the other, but haven't seen ones with only 480p.

If you had both, but the 480i is in use, you could get a switch box to handle that.

Wow, I've never heard of a tv set that doesnt take 480i as it is still the standard. What brand/model tv did you get?

Basically after you patch your MS Dash, EvoX, MXM, or othe replacement dashboard with the progressive patcher, it will always remain in 480p. No need to switch just as long as you overwrite your old dash .xbe file with the new progressively patched dash.

Doh, something else must be wrong then sad.gif

Its a Philips 30PF9975 30" LCD TV.

Its UK spec and we dont have HDTV broadcasts in the UK. But this model is compatable with 480p 576p and 1080i.

Quick search in google for your model shows only european models which I take it is a PAL only item. Have you checked to see if your xbox is outputting in PAL and not NTSC?

There are plenty of sets that do not accept 480i through the same component inputs as 480p, 720p, 1080i.  A lot of front projection systems have this issue.  The dash is always 480i unless you patch it <my sig for instructions>.

Are you using component HD cables or a VGA or DVI input?  I believe if your using a VGA you need a special patch to view your dash board.

Do your games work with that HD AV cable?  If not are you sure you have the right cable?  Lots of people plug RCA cables in thinking they are component.

I don't know if monster makes cables for uk standards but I have monster here and they work a charm.

Hi,
Its the official xbox HD AV pack (components) the one with 5 Phono's and an optical o/p.

Yeah we can get the monster cables in the UK but it doesn't appear to have an optical out sad.gif need that for my 5.1 sound system smile.gif

is there any way to patch a game so it does not use any HDTV mode (480p,720p,1080i), i need that cause my widescreen tv can only display 480p and 1080i in 16:9, and games like Capcom Vs SNK 2 doesn´t support 16:9 so the image looks really ugly stretched, if im able to use regular 480i output i can select 4:3 and the tv puts 2 gray bars at the sides of the image, making it true 4:3.

Thanks and sorry about my bad english.

DBZracer thanks for your reply. It's a dual standard PAL/NTSC model. I have tried both PAL and NTSC settings to no avail. sad.gif

ChrisF I have patched my dash using your tut with no joy.
.

That code works for every NTSC dash from v 1.0 xbox all the way to the new Live 2.0 dash.  It is either your TV or you've done something wrong.  PM me your email and I will send you the patch I use.

Yeah that isn't the issue, the issue is not only does it not support 480i on the same inputs as 480p (like a lot of TVs), it has no component input that supports 480i.  Weird.

Monster does one step better than having digital optical out, it lets you choose optical or coax!
On the monster cable atachment thing there is a microjack right where it plugs into the xbox.  You then get an adapter for this (either optical or coax) and plug that adapter in, it then has whatever output you bought the adapter for!  Instead of the MS way of forcing people to buy a box with optical in it (lots of people can't use that).

The monster cables also provide much better picture, they do not suffer from the lack of shielding like the MS ones do (who thought to put a breakout box in a video setup and not shield it?  MS dropped the ball on that one).  I have had the monster cables since I got my xbox (got all 3 input types just so I could see the difference) and I have loved them since.

I dunno if it will fix your problem, but I sugest you go buy a set to try them, you can always return em if you don't like it, but I think you will.

Is there a way to patch XBMP/XBMC as you can do with Dash and DVDX2? Some people on this forum states that XBMP has already a built in support for progressive output, but if I enable 480p on my projector the pic gets all distorted. It works great for games though. And yes, I have the component cables and progresive support turned on in MS Dash.

Thanks and sorry about my bad english.

Just go in your MS Dash video settings and disable the resolutions you dont want.

i know, but if i could patch the game directly, then i didint need to change the settings every time i switch games

Thanks

I see... Your TV doesnt support 4:3 standard images in 480p, meaning adding the black/gray bars on the side manually? First the non 480i supporting sets and now this...  laugh.gif Now I don't feel so bad that my set doesnt support 720p since it supports all the other functions other people here are having problems with.

When I have 480p games that are 4:3 that look really bad when stretched to 16:9, I just change my TV's display setting with one button to force 4:3 display.

Is there a link to the Coax adaptor is do you get that by default ? The Monster website only list an Optical cable, no Coax.
