JMXToolz Beta Release
Download Here: JMXToolz Beta

With the latest OXM disks being created (Issue #40 and newer)  they have converted to a newer 3d-esque menu system that uses a binary file called 'menu.jmx' to construct the menu/colors/backgrounds/items/actions etc...

I and PedrosPad have written a set of tools for users to toy with this file and create their own OXM disk menus. The main reason behind this project was a replacement of CDX for those that create MultiGameMenu's or a low-end dashboard.

The newer menu system supports audio/video file playback, XBE Execution, Screensaver, Billboard Feature and more. See included .cfg within JMXBuild for all options available.

Within the package are three tools:

jmxDump (simply dumps the format of the JMX, as xbedump would for XBE's)
jmxToTxt (Writes a text version of the JMX file for users to read a bit easier)
jmxBuild (Inputs a config file, and creates the JMX based on the user's preferences). A few things have yet to be implemented into jmxBuild such as color settings and screensaver settings.

This thread is for any feedback, problems, enhancements, or comments in general about the menu system or tools. Source is included for those that wish to look further into the binary file structure or create bigger and better tools.

mmmm, 3d Menu System? Sounds awesome :D

Tired of doin all my own CDX's and Avalaunch Multi-Disc didn't have the options I was after.

Any pics of the new Menu?

I can do some pics if I can locate the digicam I have lying around. If I can't find that by the end of the night I'll load up a debug bios.

wink.gif) one US OXM #40+ issue to get hold of the menu system's xbe.

PS. While the US OXM menu is quite suitable to produce multi-game DVDs for homebrew use worldwide, there’s no apparent localisation support in the new OXM jmx menu format, so it may have to undergo a maintenance cycle before it make an official appearance on European OXM cover disks.  unsure.gif

Once your US pen friend sends you the OXM #40 issue, the files that make up the menu system are:
CODE
D:\default.xbe
D:\menu.jmx
D:\menu.txt
D:\billboard\GFTrialersmall.xmv
D:\Media\Font.xpr
D:\Media\loadingscreen.bmp
D:\Media\oxm.xbg
D:\Media\Resource.xpr
D:\Media\Audio\dsstdfx.bin
D:\Media\Audio\interface.xsb
D:\Media\Audio\music.xwb
D:\Media\Audio\sfx.xwb
D:\Media\Fonts\xboxtit.3df
D:\Movies\GameFly_ForceRun.xmv
D:\Sponsors\gamefly.dds

Due to the movies (which can be dropped BTW), this totals about 19MBs RARed (unpacked size 38,519,076 bytes) ;)

FYI: When building your JMX via the JMXBuild. Be sure to have any movies that you define in any of the sections, located in they're appropriate folders otherwise your menu will lock up.

I haven't toyed with completely removing billboard movies/sponsors/forced videos etc.. So am unsure on what will happen if they are left undefined or NULL.

Would it not be possible to upload the menu system files to the usual place?

Certainly would not be any worse than downloading CDX or MenuX, which are already available. ;)

I believe that is against XBINS rules. However, if cdx is there I will ask.

Nah - US OXM #40 was the first to carry the new 3D menu system.
AFAIK OXM #41(which is good)  is still on US newsstands and costs what? About $3?  <_<

I really don't think XBINS wil okay the disk, however you might check your newsgroups as I'm sure it will make it's rounds there. As for screenshots, I hope to find time tonight for this. I'm very sorry for the not getting to these sooner. Many things happening in real life at the moment.

Hi,

Does anyone have the latest UK edition of OXM?
It's number 40, but I dont want to buy it if they haven't started using jmx yet.

Cheers

I have looked in this. I got to the point where I moved all files from the oxm disc to a folder on the pc and opened the jmxtools. Made a iso with craxtion and when I run the dvd from the iso I created I just get the loading screen.
Angerwound could you give me a hand with this! Thank you in advance. Take care

I copied all then added and subtracked some to manipulate my own videos I have.
Question though:
I looking at the build option. Does the cfg build up the menu.jmx.
If so;
What if I want to change out some videos and add in some demos and what-not? Should I change the cfg file to reflect these changes.....
I'll have to get back to the house to see what exactly I changed out!
Thank you for your time and tools.

Well, you could simply swap out the videos that it is currently configured to open and display however, if you wish to completely modify the way the menu operates you could edit the CONFIG file within JMXBuild and then once your changes are finished go ahead and execute the app to build your own custom 'menu.jmx' file.

Alrighty, I took some screen shots.  This is from OXM 42, 43, or 44, I cant remember.  I changed the name of the default.xbe, and it was my friends disc that I copied to my computer.

And yes its called "Digital Devkit" now.  Its my testing app for RBS3 and Halo 2 now.

That little video to the side...it was a small .xmv I found on one of my disc's.  If anyone knows how to convert a .xmv to .avi and visa versa, I may beable to change the background.  Or is that what the "Plane" thingy is for?  I dont know, but ill make a tutorial if anyone is interested.  It seems like this topic is dead.

I assumed producing XMV format video files was a no brainer, but having googled around, I've not discovered any links to utils either sad.gif, but lots of hints that people are doing it smile.gif.  I suspect they may be using an official util from the XDK.
