Hi,
Well as some of you may already know that I've started to work on the neXgen code base again so I thought I would create this topic to keep you posted of updates of whats going. I've still got real life commitments but the time is more managable now to spread between work and neXgen. I hope to keep updating this threads for you.
Again thanks to you all for your support

Well some of you looked shocked but trust me there will be more updates and progress now.
I've been working through finding a fixing bugs the past few nights. the skin is coming together now and looks more presentable.
As it's only me working on the code at the moment i have decided to take a similar approach to the XBMC team and go with a "Feature Freeze" so i can incorporate the functions with the skin and it makes for easy bug finding and we know where were upto. Im sure the users would like a more stable build to use than somthing just thrown together and not properly tested.
I aim to have a build ready for internal testing later tonight / tomorrow so i can get feedback on whats working and whats not. If this testing goes well i hope by the weekend to have something that the public can use and we can start collecting any probs they find and look at what they would like to see in the dashboard.
-
happy coding ...
-
ok the internal build is now available to Team-XOS members!!!
I should start getting feedback over the next couple of days and then we can take it from there. If all goes well then maybe we can have something for the public over the weekend we will just have to see how the internal testing goes.
-
Cool nice work. WIll give it a shot soon just dont know the ftp details lol (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) will figure them out some how.
-
just a quick note there is a temp website setup untill we can re aquire www.xboxopensource.com
:: www.nexgen.no - ip.com :: I will be posting a few screenshots, news and anything todo with what were up to there.
Note: remove the spaces after "no" and "-" it looks like the forum doesnt like no-ip addresses

Just to let you know that the progress bar support is almost complete and that i will be looking at adding scrolling text for titles that have long names so they dont make the menu look cluttered. X3LCD will be one area that I want to make more use of as well. There are still a few bugs in the X3LCD code but they shouldnt take too long to fix.
How many ppl use the X3LCD???
Sorry that there was no public build made over the weekend but that was only a might not a deffo release. As soon as these last few issues are sorted i will inform of a release date for v2

I have an X3LCD on my 1.6 to test if you want me to.
-
maybe ask, who uses x3lcd? ;-)
well i don't
-
Its good to see that nexgen is still alive. I use the x3lcd btw.

Hi,
Sorry its been a little while since i updated. I have been working on the new default skin set which was causing a few issues when you had more than 5 items on the list. That problem is now resolved and ive had chance to sort out some more user tweaking options. the RSS feed the user now has full control of and is not just fixed to xbox-scene why u wouldnt want that i dont know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
As i have had some PM's regarding the X3LCD i will add better support into neXgen for it. Sorry it's taking me a while to get releases out but i want it stable and as bug free as possible.
thanks for your patience and support
-
well the bugs reports are coming in at a fast pace now. I have fixed most of them and now almost have a complete skin set so it's just a matter of fine tuning and getting the remaining LUA bindings completed ready for you to use.
I also found out lastnight that the dash was not actualy disableing the reset on eject and therefore it rebooted when users were opening the tray. thats been fixed and effect all the way back to the NYE build
-
Absolutly top dollar!!
Keep up the good work, can't wait for the next big release!
neXgen, quality easy to use dash
If I ever get to meet the master, i'll buy you a (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

With the return of sp0ok to the team & doing some awesome work on the dash this has made me abit jelouse so i have decided to unpack the xbox & get back to work.
will be doing some extensive beta testing on the next release & will try find out if any new bugs have came out of there closet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
So untill Homebrew is avialiable on the xbox 360 its all decks on xbox for me.
-
and I fixed the site up to http://spider.xbox-scene.com/~xos/ if you want to get to it. Some things might not work but I cant afford a new domain (since I buy like 7 others for different companies a year) use that temp address for now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif).

Lol Looking back at some old news posts wonder how much has been done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Posted by kev2
Sp0ok can u hint us (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
Here is a quick progress report on Nexgen 2. There is no release date at this time but hopefully it won't be too long before you can all try it out.
Features:
Full xbe launching
FTP Server
FTP Client
Xecuter 3 support including X3Lcd
Xbox remote support
Autoupdate
Screenshots
Xbox hardware control (LED, Fan, etc)
Multi-mode screensaver (Including matrix effect)
HDD formatting and locking/unlocking support
Whats left to do:
Finish replacing music playback functions
A massive load of work on the skin engine (too much to go in to here really . .)
Finish HTTP server
Some sort of forced confirmation popups on specific functions, for example, when formatting harddrives or changing eeprom settings
config file loading and saving needs cleaning up
An awesome amount of testing and no doubt debugging
lots of other things I can't remember . .
-
thanks for the updates this sounds awesome cant wait to try it out again its been a real long time since have tested nexgen
-
Thanks for all the support over the last few weeks. I will have another internal build ready in the next day or 2. Works being a bitch but im trying to manage time for neXgen.
I finaly merged all the various build of neXgen v2.0 into the 1 main source tree so things are finaly looking more complete.
Will keep you posted. thanks again

Small Update:
run into a small problem thats being a complete ass to get working right once this is sorted alot of other features of the dash will work as they should. This little annoyance is starting to realy do my head in. I have booked the week off work next week so will put a chunck of time into the project.
-
Well the mini problem is fixed only problem im having at the moment is time again. Sorry for the delays on this but it's a bit of a pain at the moment at work trying to set time a side for myself.
As soon as i can find the login details to the CVS i'll update all changes there so anyone else will be able to have a look through the code or help us out.
-
SpOoK is there any chance of an update it been a while (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
-
hi HEADMOD,
Well its been busy for me at work and just formatting my main PC i still need to reload vs .NET and other tools to continue development with neXgen. I am working on the main code when i get chance but it's been difficult since we got rid of some staff at work and are not getting replacements until after christmas which is a complete joke!!
Looks like i will need a new TV card as well in this PC since i cant find drivers compatible with it so will have to look at getting that sorted out this weekend.
As it stands at the moment i only have one big hurdle to overcome which is getting the lock / unlock code for the HDD to work correctly as at the moment it freezes the xbox whilst it completes the task and then returns to normal working state. I have a few issues to sort in the X3LCD code and just tidy up other areas of the code. so it's not looking too bad. I do also need to finish the skinset as well hehe as without that the core of the dash is no good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
I will try to have something for you as soon as possible.
Update:
Found drivers for TV card and it's working ok. will see what i can get done this weekend.

Well all the dev tools have been loaded and builds are compiling. I hope it wont be long before i put something out there. I may leave the lock/unlock support out of this build and get it finished a bit later.

Glad it's back up, thought it was down forever (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif).
Really wish I could help out with the domain name, but I think I won't be able to even afford my own this year.
£14 in my bank can't afford all the domains I currently run (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif).
