Title: Backgrounds Dont Work

ive tried using downloaded skins, but their backgrounds dont work. i know that it is the background.xbx file. i know that you have to edit default.xip, but i dont know how. and also.. ive heard that i have to edit default.xap also. i dont quite get what it is. can someone please explain this to me?
