MXM n00b alert...
There is no MXM.xml file in the MXM directory but there are mxm.xml files in the Dash_config and DVD_config rar files. Do I put the skins path in either one of those or do I need another file? If so, could you post it ot PM it to me? Thanks!

into the <MAIN> section of the XML file.. that path can be whatever you want, as long as it exists.

Should be a '\' instead of '/' in the path.

I can get some of the skins in that folder to work, just not all of them. I've come to determine after trying several skins that the MXM_skin.xml files aren't always working.
I pop them into IE and get a XML Parsing error on some, others are just fine. so, I installed the ones that didn't get an error and they work fine.
I was suprised to find that so many of the ones I downloaded from allxboxskins didn't seem to work.... :-(

Devoid may have issues if: 1) you have no audio tracks ripped or 2) funky names for your music tracks

I don't use MXM.xml, as for some reason I am using menu.xml
Here is a copy of my menu.xml

I have put the MXMSKINS folder in my E: drive and it has 3 folders in there with 3 different skins!"
At the moment all MXM does is see the 2 default skins stored in the xbe!

EDIT: I put the mxm.xml file in and added the line <skinspath>E:/MXMSKINS</skinspath> and now it works fine!!

try going into E:\UDATA\00004321\ and delete the Pref.xml (seriously it wont affect your box, just removes MXM preferences)
Then reboot, should still boot fine.
Copy over a skin one at a time, make sure it still works fine and continue doing it that way.
If it locks at the skins init screen again, just delete the pref.xml once again and it should boot up ok.
I've seen it lock up on a skin, and once the pref.xml is deleted, it would boot with that same skin.. but i couldnt figure out why.
I havent had this problem before but not lately on 0.9n what version are you using?

I plan on offering a very basic internal skin (no previews, very simple layout) as a last resort in Safe Mode.
Trying different options in safe mode can reveal the source of the problem.
