Changing the cable over isn't going to increase speeds to anything noticable (if at all), but the cable is higher quality, so it will likely help with cleaner data transmission.
You could also use an ATA 133 cable. ATA 133 or 100 cables have 80 wires, where ATA 33 have 40. If you put a cable next to the old Xbox cable and it has smaller wires, then it is ATA 100 or better.

ATA100 cables have more wires than ATA33 (40 for ATA33 and 80 for ATA100), but you can use ATA100 for ATA33 drives without a problem. I don't think you'll notice a speed difference.
