What did you do to increase the resolution? Once you can describe what you did originally (that didn't work) it will be easier to help you do it properly.

What I did was to plug in the new, component cable. Then I got a normal picture, just like with the composite or scart cable. Then I launched Xbox Media Player, or Xbox Media Center (one of them) and changed the resolution to a higher setting. When I confirmed the settings and the console changed the resolution (i did it to get better picture on my flat screen), the screen went black/blue, which I believe is a result of the signal either not being compatible with the TV (unlikely, tried on many different TVs, flatscreens and old ones), or not compatible with the xbox.
