Title: Dashboard Help
Post by: 1hotjob on January 26, 2007, 08:03:00 PM
If you can list the files on the C and E drives that would be helpful. Most softmods put the dash in the E:\Dashboard folder, but not always as you can see.

An easy solution would be to use CASH Ver 1.1 to upgrade the softmod to Krazie's Ndure. You would get a better softmod that would probably be more stable.

If not, list the files and I will see what I can do to help.

Most likely your Xbox is booting the dash from the xboxdash.xbe file in the C drive. When the Xbox boots normally, that is the file it looks for. Using FTP, copy your avalaunch files to the Xbox C drive. Rename xboxdash.xbe to old_xboxdash.xbe then rename your avalaunch.xbe file to xboxdash.xbe. Reboot the Xbox and it should boot to avalaunch.

Keep in mind that if this doesn't work you will need another way to get into the Xbox. Make sure you have a game save exploit on the Xbox. To check it out, boot the game used to do the mod. If the guy doesn't remember what game he used, go to the MS Dash and look at the game saves in there. It will list under Mech Assault - Run Linux for example. Boot that game and make sure you can see the exploit.

If all else fails and you can't do that, you will have to hotwswap. These are warnings just to let you know that things can go wrong and you need to be prepared to fix them. If the DVD doesn't eject, take out a paper clip and straighten it out. There is a hole on the right side of the DVD drive. Use the paper clip to press in on a lever in there. It will make the tray come out manually.

There may be two easy solutions for you. If you are just concerned about the games loading you need to do the following:

1. Clear the E:\Cache folder and delete anything in the X, Y and Z drives. That usually takes care of the game loading issues.

2. There are some games that won't run from the HD. NBA Live is one of them. Either play the original or make a copy of the disk.

That is a lot simpler than trying to change the dash around. When you get ready to try changing the dash, make sure you copy the C and E drives to the PC first. Make sure there is a copy of the eeprom.bin file in there. That way if things go bad, you have the files to restore the HD.

As long as you have the eeprom and can unlock the drive you can repair it in the PC with Xplorer360.

I got Xplorer..  Is that the only tool I need?  Will it unlock my drive?  I have a eeprom copy.  WTF..  This blows..    Since I got the drive out should I upgrade do anything?  Is there a way to add a few dashboards or something?  Wish I had a larger drive to upgrade to..  Anyways, 1hotjob I really appreciate your trying to help me.  I shouldnt have jumped the gun but I figured the rename deal was easy and lacked the chance for failure...  sad.gif  Live and learn.
