Title: X2vga Vs Xbox High Def Adaptor
Post by: nimr0d on April 20, 2005, 09:07:00 PM
I have a projector with inputs that a computer monitor would have.

It supprts: NTSC, NTSC 4.3, PAL, PAL-M, SECAM, HDTV (480p, 720p, 1080i, 1035i)

so i'm just wondering what would be better, i looked into the 2 a little bit, and the only differences i saw was the price, they both have high def output and optical output. <

Pros for the original  MS HD pack would be the stereo out connectors which are much more flexible than the single socket jack on the X2VGA+
You can run whatever cable length you desire to your projector (try getting a 12 ft VGA cable!) And the price difference. If the HD pack can do the job, then that is the best choice. However, you have to find the original breakout-box HD pack, as MS has now redesigned it with fixed length cables.

Alright cool thanks, i already have a 6 ft VGA cable, and the xbox and the projector will both be on a cart for easy hiding during parties.  The new Xbox high def pack doesnt have a VGA output, only component?  And which would look better the VGA or the components?

Can you show me examples of what the 2 different packs look like, so that i know what i'm looking for.

and about the 1035i, i just copied and pasted it from the website. <

This is the original MS HD pack. No it does have a VGA connector, the Xbox doesn't officially support VGA. Check the shots halfway down this page.

Original and New

Yes you only need to use the optical connection, but you will have to buy the cable seperately. The original HD pack comes with component cables, but the quality is not recommended for your projector.

Forget the Monster cable, its more trouble than its worth.

No!

If you projector has both component and vga input, and if they both accept high definition, then by all means use a component cable.

There is no conversion going on with a component cable, and it is much cheaper; baring that you do not go with monster cables. <

What I meant to say was, that the supplied component cables that come with the orginal HD pack are not very good quality. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
Foe-hammer sums it up nicely.  beerchug.gif <
