Title: Pixelation In 480p
Post by: Nosf3ratu on April 14, 2005, 02:24:00 PM
Just got an HDTV, when I play Halo 2 or Doom 3 in 480p its pixelated around the edges(its not dot crawl). Its like you can see the flaws in the character models and maps in Halo 2(the stuff looks blocky), but just on the edges. Its annoying, anyone else experience this?

Everyone experience that. Sometimes, a low res CRT, 480i image just looks better. <

Then I dont understand why people brag so much about Halo 2 in 480p. Maybe I can get some more people to tell about their experience with it. <

The "jaggies", aliasing your noticing is because of low resolution.  In 480p the textures are much cleaner, so the aliasing will be more noticable.  In 480i the textures are all blurred, so the jaggies is not as noticable.  I would take a better, cleaner picture anyday over a blurred one, even if aliasing is a result. <
