Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to get hi-def on a computer monitor without an X2vga or VGA cable (I have a 1.6 Xbox and thus I can't use a VGA bios). I have an 18" LCD monitor (Gateway FPD1830) that I would like to use with my Xbox if I could get HDTV resolutions on it. TIA.

yes it would. there are 2 types of component - ED component 480p(Y/Cb/Cr) and Hi def component 720p/1080i (Y/Pb/Pr). The pack supports 480p as does your tv, which is much better pq than composite, since composite and s-video are interlaced.

VGA Bios, since they dont make a component to vga cable. Or, however they do make component to vga trancoders, which convert the component signal to VGA for pc hookup.

My TV doesn't support 480p
But I think I'll get the component cable anyways, it'll definately look better than regular composite.QUOTE

I've seen component to VGA cables on ebay, but they just transfer the signal, they don't actually convert it... well, I have Yohihiro's M8+ VGA bios, but it's not BFM and I'm softmodded so I can't use it (I can't get evtool to convert it either.)

your right about the cables, the component to vga cable is for a device that can output a vga signal though component ports, but since you cant use the vga bios, then your stuck.
you may be able to use the hdtv pack, run your component cables into the trancoder, then run a vga cable to the pc.

well that kind of defeats the purpose of having component inputs. converting 480p back to an interlaced resolution for display would be no different to the naked eye than viewing a composite video signal. its a waste of an input if you ask me.
