Title: Games Dissappearing
Post by: reaction105 on January 09, 2005, 03:27:00 AM
the backed up games on my xbox have been slowly dissapearing over the last few days, 4 have gone missing so far. their folders dont seem to be in f: anymore, and free space on f: has been increasing also. i use mainly dvd2xbox to back them up, and i havent noticed any obvious deleting activity. could the system files on c: be screwed up? i recently installed surreal XXX and a newer version of XBMC, and have been playing games over the net using some tunnelling software. searching the forums hasnt given me any clues.

can anyone help/have any ideas?

im not sure it is related to XBMC though, as i dont use that program often. when it happened to you, did it erase all the games on your list or only some? and were they actually removed from the harddrive or just inaccessable? for me, i first noticed that one game was missing, then the next day when i tried to backup that game again i noticed another 3 had dissappeared. has anyone seen anything like this before?

hey, iv been having similar troubles with my xbox and games disappearing.. what you need to do is delete all ur games.. now this might seem outlandish but trust me.. when u delete the game it wont really go, then once uv done that go and download a program called xmastrv9.8 install this and then follow the prompts and all ur games will be restored and safe from further erasing.  u now will hav u use this game to add or delete games.. go forth young padawan

Good idea to not listen to that advice.  Post count doesn't really mean squat but certainly don't take advice that harmful from someone with only one post.

Sorry. I've got no idea to fix your problem though.

no worries mate

i noticed they only joined yesterday as well, so it was a little suspicious. with the game problem, could it be possible that whilst connected to the net with my xbox a virus or worm found its way on there? i have no idea, but is unknown people accessing the files on your xbox hdd while youre on the net (playing or ftping) something users should be concerned about?

anyway, i havent since noticed anymore games going missing, so maybe it was a one off thing. ill check it out later, thanks for your help

I have 2 1.0's doing the same thing.

My 1.6b doesnt seem to do it tho.

All of them have Spiderchips in them, what chips are you guys running?

Has anyone with a 1.6 or newer had this problem?

Could it be something worng with the 1.0's?

Anyone have a solution?

the same thing kind of happened to me except my entire C drive got erased within about 15 minutes of playing games! does anybody know what happened there? i recently installed BO-Xlink, XBoy-Advance, and an internet browsing program. I also took apart my xbox and unplugged the hard drive and i plugged it back in of course but it was working perfectly fine the day before my C drive got cleared

I've seen the same probs attacking computers, reformatted several this week for customers. The longer you have it running the more it deletes off the HD. There was no luck getting the info back to its proper location. I haven't found any info on this and leads to reformatting, as for the computer. My guess is that its a virus which I have labled "Pacman", for its love to munch your files. Anymore info on this would be appreciated.

this happened to me on a 60gb hdd, and has since seemed to have stopped. that is, no more games other than the 4 that initially dissappeared are missing. although, it seems like px-hdd was deleted along with them as well. are viruses, etc. something to worry about when your xbox is connected to the net?

this might sound like a conspiracy theory, but maybe MS has spread a new virus to affect modded xbox's.

I don't know if this maybe possible, but the newest disc backed up on my xbox (which is 160gb) was the Mercenary one, since then, I turned off my console for about 2 says, when I turned it abck on, I just noticed  my Menu items ended up missing l and I JUST have Dash, Settings, Poweroff and Backup. Im thinking maybe the new disc, I removed it via FTP, but nothing has happened, the menu items are still missing.

I havnet noticed any games missing yet, but as far as know, thats what just started happeneing to me.

theres got to be a away to recover the games...  i had 34 games backed up and i really dont know waht to do.  i dont trust putting them back on until i can figure out what happened.  someone has to be able to fix it.  i used px hdd loader 1.3 and it took like a minute to wipe all of my games.

VizionX1, i think your problem is actually seperate to the others on this thread. i dunno what causes it or how to fix it, but i have seen alot of discussion about it on the official evolutionx forums when i was looking for help about this thread. you might find some help there, if you cant find anything here.

ectocooler3, i think the games that are missing on mine were loaded with px hdd as well...maybe theres a connection there?

i had copied some games over from my xbox to store on my computer the day before i noticed any games going missing. the ones that did dissappear, i hadnt got a chance to copy over yet. maybe the moving of large amounts of data about causes some (temporary?) fault/error on the hdd?

I'm using a 1.3 with an Xecuter 2.3 (loaded with xecuter bios 4983.67).  I only have an 80gb HD in my box.  I do use PxHDD Loader to load my games.  I did recently update my XBMC and had played Mercenaries.  I personally think it is a conflict with XBMC and PxHDD Loader.  When Px Loader tried to delete all my games I shut it off before it cleared everything.  I also ftped into my Xbox and had found some files with the extention .tbn.  I have never seen those files before and took them off my Xbox.  I will do some experimenting and see if I can replicate the issue.

Ok I think I found my culprit.  It seems linked to the files with the .tbn extention.  Now the wierd thing:  After updating my XMBC, I also started using Craxtion.  So At first I thought it was XBMC since I hadn't used Craxtion all that much.  So Today I did some experimenting.  I made sure my stuff was backed up before proceding.  So I tried the normal stuff with XBMC I normally use it for.  Then went to Px loader and nothing happened.  So I started thinking what esle had I done lately that was different.  Well I had used Craxtion to transfer some files around.  So I fired up Craxtion FTPed to my Xbox and looked at my PX loader folder.  I saw the .tbn files.  Oh I should note that I had previously ftped to my Xbox to check for any .tbn files and there were none.  But in Craxtion I saw them.  So I went back to FlashFXP and now I saw the .tbn files.  So I took a deep breathe fired up Px Loader and it said "refreshing game list", well while it was "refreshing" my HD space was increasing.  So it was deleting my games.  So I went back into FlashFXP and deleted the .tbn files, rebooted.  Went back into PX loader and everything was fine.

So I'm not sure if this is a bug but I will be posting my results in the Craxtion section to see what is up with this issue.

OK So before I claimed Craxtion had a bug I went I and did some more digging.  It is indeed a bug in PxHdd Loader and XBMC.  It is related to the .tbn files.  Easy fix is to use DVD2Xbox.  ( I was actually planning on this anyways)

I found this post HERE

Just to make this clear.  IT IS THE .TBN FILES.  I sort of jumped to the conclusion that Craxtion created the .tbn.  Apologies in advance to Lepper and team.  Also XMBC is aware of the issue and it has been fixed on their end.  PXLoader has not according to the post above.

So, is it OK for me to stop using PxLoader and start using DVD2XBOX?
Will the XBOX be happy with the mixture of directory entries for the games?
Do I need to remove all the games loaded with PxLoader and reload them with DVD2XBOX or can I just safely start using DVD2XBOX from now on?

I have a problem with Star Wars Obi Wan occasionally locking up when you get killed and it reloads the game off the HDD, and was wondering if PxLoader somehow corrupted it when it was installed.
