one person already bought a disk (auction closed on the 29th) I sent him an e-mail telling him he was ripped off ($16.00 +$8.00 S&H)
also two other auctions have bidders I sent them the following:
| QUOTE |
<link to auction here> The above auction is for an Item you are bidding on. This item infringes on MS copyright and is illegal to sell. Also this member is not part of the development team for Evox and as such has no right to distribute their code. Finally this software is available for free, from the developers, on the internet; so why pay for it? -nB |
Also the individual was turned into e-Bay
pending word from the dev team: [and a link to the auction re-mailed to our friends in redmond from a one time hotmail (oh the irony) account, accessed through a proxy. ]
He's a gonner

networkBoy... you took a step. wait, 5000 steps farther than id take it going to redmond... but regardless, thats what scum like that gets really.

| Hey M$!! If any of your goons... uh, representatives are reading this I just want to say that I understand protecting against Piracy of your games, but hey man why be such a tight-ass about the homebrew stuff? I mean I have yet to pirate a game that I actually have played more than once and if I liked the game I either bought it or at least rented it a couple of times. Besides I want a refund for a game I bought that I think SUCKS but of course I doubt you'll do that. I would happily pay you $50 for a disk with XBMP2.0 and Linux on it. That would be the bomb. If you signed the disk then I wouldn't have to hack my box to make it play a photo slideshow of my kid. (I love boring relatives with pictures of my kid) |
ROFLMAO.. nuff said, shit cracked me up
networkBoys letter to m$
hey man, give me permission and ill put this on my links page, i think its great, honestly.
@ILLusions0fGrander: Go ahead, just link back to my page with a credit.
@Maximundo: you don't have access to a normal CD burner?!?
-nB
how are you making the disk?
Go to my website and click on the roll you own slayer link in the tutorials section. It will explain how to install a new hard disk w/ evox on it.
If you want to keep your old xbox disk then this will work for that too. Also, this has been tested to work with the current version of EvoX (specifies .3752).

I downloaded a file called EvolutionX Build 3935; I extracted it with WinRAR 3.40 beta 1.
I arraigned a folder with Bios folder, skin folder, 0dummy.tmp (just 254mbs of multiple MPEG2 crap and then later a single 384mb vob file), default.xbe, evox.ini and read me text file.
With this arraigned folder I made an ISO file with Qwix 1.01 then converted to Optimized For XISO file (is visible on PC). Burnt it with NERO 5.0.3.8
No multissetion
ISO Level 1 (max of 11=8+3 chars)
Character set ISO 9660

Allow more than 255 charactors in path..yes

In your tutorial it says:
This tutorial assumes you have a working mod chip in your box and can burn a cd format your xbox will read.
Duh? I dont have a burner that can produce disks that my Xbox (Phillips) can recognize.
But thanks for duh help.

suppose I owe you an apology on that one.
Really I reccomend gdfimage if you can find a copy. I've never had a problem getting my phillips to read memorex 4x cd-rw burnt at 2x for a GDF'd iso with no dummy files.

| someone that is willing to help another in a situation like myself should not be bashed or taken out; although profiting and charging a high shipping fee is concerning. |
The reason he needed to be taken out is that by selling the program he's entering an enitrely worse legal situation and if we don't police actions like that then M$ and the FEDERAL DA will. In the end actions like his give ammo to M$ to persue homebrew devs. As long as it's all free and low key, M$ has a lot less ammo.

networkBoy, i give you a lot of credit man... you really are lookin out for the "scene" and it doesnt go unappretiated.
at least not on my part
