I've been looking around for parts to make a VGA cable, and I stumbled upon www.digi-key.com. They sell two different LM1881 chips, the LM1881M, and the LM1881N. Anyone have any idea what the difference is, and which one I need?

check the tutorial on making a vga cable on xbox-scene.com, i think it tells where to get one, and which one to get.

I was looking at the tutorial, and it didn't specify which one. The site they give to get it from in the US has both also. And I'd rather stick w/ the place I'm looking at. They seem to have almost any electronic component you'd need.

I'm guessing it's just how the pins are bent, because on their site to get them from, the two different models have the pins bent differently. And digi-key is listed on the given site, and will sell them in quantities of one.

According to this: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=213487 I'm guessing it's going to be LM1881N.

I see. I ordered the N model chip and other parts needed today. Should hopefully get them soon. Anyone here made one? Is the chip assembly small enough to fit behind the Xbox plug inside the metal housing, or no?

I'd recommend ordering the N. The difference between the LM1881N and LM1881M is the package they come in. The LM1881N is a dip package used for through hole, while the LM1881M is a SOIC package used for surface mount . So the LM1881N would be easier for noobs to solder since its much bigger.
