Title: Anyone Have The G Drive With Ex 4981?
Post by: aunixguru on January 26, 2004, 11:04:00 AM
Complete Noob here.

I installed a Xenium this weekend along with executor 4981 Bios.

I used Slayer's auto-install to add a brand new 250GB HD.

Eveyrthing is working fine except I cannot get Evox +3921 to recognize the G drive.

What am I missing?

I doublechecked the bios was set for "Partition 6 takes up to 137GB / Partition 7 Takes Rest"

I have drive "UseGDrive = Yes" in my evox.ini

What else am I missing?

Thanks

Make sure that you are using a dashboard skin that shows the G drive.  It might be there, but the skin won't show it if you are using an older skin.

Could it be a little thing called evox.ini?

UseFDrive   = Yes
UseGDrive= No

Turn it on and see if that works.

I have searched and searched for an answer (When search works that is, seems like 25% of the time).

I have an xbox 1.5 with Xenium modchip and maxtor 250GB drive in it.

I used slayer's auto installed to set up this new drive and everything is working well.

Except no matter what I do , I cannot put anything on the G drive.

I have seen several posts here with the same problem and no one has the answer.

My ex 4981 bios is setup to use 137GB on f and g takes the rest.
The new ver of xbtool has support for lba48 but when i open 4981, this area is grayed out.
I did open M7 and the lba48 area became enabled and I enabled lba48 on it and booted.  Still not able to put things on the G drive.

In Flashxp I can see the drive, I cannot create a folder or anything.
I used raw command to format the drive. it said it was successful.

I have tried every skin  that was installed with slayer's install.  None show the G drive.

Does anyone have access to their G drive????????

My F is full now with 47 games and I really need to get my G going.

Please help!

what bios of the 4981 do you have now ..

I think you have the 4981.06 , but you need the 4981.76

Flash it with bios 4981.67 and then try to format the g drive

EDIT:TYPO

I have Evox 4981.67.  I cannot find 4981.76 anywhere, I think you mixed up the digits or is there a 76 somewhere?

As far as the skins displaying G, I know that they just display what they are told to.

The question really was does anybody using 4981.67 or 4981.anything have access to their G drive?

Thanks,

Hey, slayer, I have a question.  I put a 160gb maxtor into my box, but it will only recognize 120gb.  I know your installer has a patch for breaking the 137gb limit, so why can't I get mine to format givin the options on slayers 2.5?  Is there something that I need to change in the ini?

It's either a bios problem (you need one with +137GB support) or a jumper on your HD, check carefully.

Would you walk us through exactly what you need to get > 137GB support?

I have a Xenium in a 1.5 xbox.

Installed a maxtor 250GB.

Loaded Slayer auto-install.

Selected "g" takes the rest.

I am using M7 bios with lba48 turned on with xbtool (1.6).
I have tried ex 4981.67 with no luck. (In xbtool the lba48 support is grayed out)

I am running evox 3921 dash.
I have within it, Avalaunch 0484 dash and unleashx 26_119A.

None of the dash's see the G drive.

In my evox.ini, I have UseGDrive= Yes.
I have used the raw commands in flashfxp to format the G drive. (Successful)

Bottom line is I cannot copy anything to it or see it in a dash.

Do you have any idea's ?

I see 3 posts on xbox-scene a day asking this same question and no one can answer it.

You have formatted the G partition right? Try formatting it using EvoX. You also have use g drive in your evox.ini set to yes?

See that? I answered you.
I flashed with a bios with lba48 support (for a 7th partition).  Set UseGDrive = Yes.  Then I formatted.  There is no trick, nothing special.  It works fine for me and dozens of others.

So instead of taking 1 minute to post an answer , you rather spend 5 cutting and pasting my posts in different sections here.

Some moderator.

And instead of taking ONE SECOND to read heinrich's FIRST REPLY to your quest (the FIRST REPLY you received on the matter), you decided to spam the forums.  His very first post in response suggested to format the G drive, and you evidently did not heed his suggestion.  This is the first time I'm reading about your problem, and it is painfully clear to be right up front that the G drive needed to be formatted.  Why you skipped over that and looked into imaginary BIOS builds (4981.76) is beyond me.

heinrich did EXACTLY what he was supposed to as a moderator.  He addressed your question immediately (and multiple times!) and cleaned up the mess you made.  It takes quite an assclown to lash out at him for that.

Pick a fight with a moderator for helping you (and cleaning up after you) and you're going to find yourself in quite a bit of trouble here next time you need help.

Lets review:
I asked if you had formatted, no reply.
You then asked "does anybody using 4981.67 or 4981.anything have access to their G drive?"
The answer to the question was YES.  You asked a yes or no question, you got a yes or no answer.
In your next posts, you never said that you formatted G.  Morglum asked you if you had as well.  You *never* said that you formatted, you expect us to read your mind or what?  This is why multiple people asked you that.  I answered the EXACT questions that you asked.

Because you didnt do one or more of the following:

Use a bios that supports it.
Set UseGDrive = Yes.
Format it (sometimes you have to do this more than once, this a very common thing).

Posting a question 3-4 times in different area that might catch the eye of different people is hardly SPAM.
