Title: May Be Its My Moniter
Post by: ORGANIC_PEPSI on August 07, 2004, 04:16:00 AM
well i ordered a x2vga+ last month and i must say im clearly dissapointed with the results.the pictture is worst than my tv with composite connection.
i mean ive seen hi def before but this is not it.say so example halo on x2vga looks horrible.
the jaggies are all over the place .the pistol looks like a pile of crap.other games are the same.
ive tried it on 2 monitors aoc 19 klr HERE and benq v551HERE
both are brand new ,but can monitors be the issue? rolleyes.gif

Hi.

I've been doing some search on this topic, and I can't find a pattern. blink.gif

To some guys, this item it's the best, to others it's junk.  But  I'm confused as to on what that depends.  huh.gif

I have found a lot more people recommend the VD-Z3.

I'll let you know if I find something.

When I first got mine I too was dissappointed wiht its performance. However, I had it set wrong, after correcting the dip switch setting to support H&V, it was bloody brilliant. I must also point out that mine was faulty when I got it. The cable in the AVIP had a break in it which meant it didn't force Y,YPb,YPr from the XBOX, fixing this cured the issue.

When you have the X2VGA plugged in look at the information in the settings for UX or Avalaunch and make sure it says it's running Hi Def. If not you may have a faulty wire too.

My (original) x2vga is brilliant.
I've never seen true HiDefinition for Xbox but this is much, much better than a normal tv. Makes most games look amazing. Can't remember trying Halo though, I didn't even know it supported it? Try another, newer game.

One question though... now that you are playing your games on your monitor, are you actually still sitting/lying back as far as you usually would when playing on a tv? Or sitting up close to the monitor like when using your PC?
Of course jaggies and resolution lines are much more visible when you're up that close.

I suspect something may be wrong with your X2VGA (have you checked all the dip switch settings?), or you have an unusually discriminating opinion for video game images.

I would agree that "jaggies" are more prevalent in some games, like halo, because the image is so sharp that the anti-aliasing tricks that rely on pixels bleeding into each other don't work.

However, in my opinion, the slight amount of "jagginess" present is more than compensated by the great clarity and edge definition in the whole image.  It really helps with sniping, as you can much more easily discern long range objects.

Playing Mame Roms on my xbox via the x2vga is great too.  Those old arcade games look really sharp and colorful.

All the people at Halo LAN gatherings who have seen Halo on my x2vga/LCD screen say "wow, that looks so sharp, I gotta get that setup".  No one has told me it looks worse than composite.

If it is working correctly, sorry to hear you don't like it.

I'm loving mine, and it looks much better than svideo or composite ever did.

Ahhh, the SHARPNESS!!  love.gif

I believer I have the same issues with my x2vga as Organic Pepsi here.  I've tried both crt and lcd monitors and the result is always the same.   The display seems worse on the monitors compared to the television even at the same distance.

The display I'm getting is playable but I'm still looking for the amazing quality that lots of people seem to be getting.

I read somewhere that plugging a digital audio cable into the x2vga helped get rid of the blurryiness.  Can anyone verify this?  Would I be able to just plug in the cable without having the 5.1 surround sound speakers on the other end?

Should I contanct Seonya and try to get a replacement or refund?

Let me know what you think.  Thanks.

Not me.  I just use the VGA (d-sub) video connector and the RCA (red/white) audio connectors.

Either there's something wrong with some of the x2vga's, or we've just got different tolerances for jagginess/anti-aliasing.  Any chance that those of you who think your x2vga+2001FP setups look bad can take some digicam shots of your screens?

Nope, my Halo in 480p on my 2001FP is not as detailed as that.

That screenshot must be from the PC version of Halo in high res (1024x768 or higher).

Drew, I'll send you a PM with my email address. I can host the pics on my own webspace if you want.  (For myself, I can't view photobucket images most of the time because work blocks most image hosting sites).

I have some....strange news.  I was changing some video settings in the avalaunch dashboard and then attempted to load Halo.  Halo did not start after a couple of minutes so I turned off my xbox and then back on.

To my surprise my xbox blinks ONLY red and I can't get video through my monitor or with my tv hookup anymore.  Should I reflash my xecuter 2.3b?  I can't seem to find any error codes that correspond to a red flashing light only.

Anyone know what up?

Thanks

Drew

Give me a break, was busy with a friend's wedding all day Friday and Saturday.  tongue.gif

Drew only sent me one pic, and it's very small.

Alright, here's Chronicles of Riddick.  This picture is
taken from inside a doorway looking into a jailyard. That
is why it is narrow.  Anyways, this quality is pretty
terrible and the game isn't even really playable in my
opinon.

reasons. 007 looks great to me on the x2vga+.

Here's Halo. The first picture shows the jaginess around
the edge of the platform as well as the pistol. I realize
that this may be caused from the rescaling on my monitor.
However, I have several different monitors and all give me
this same result.

Here's another picture of Halo. This one shows the
jaginess around the white triangle on the ground. I wish I
had a good picture of an 'action' shot but I think these
shots would be easy to compare with someone else since
they are easy to get pictures of.

Drew, your halo screenshots look the same as what I see with mine.

It's all subjective.  To me, the increased jaggies I get with Halo don't bother me at all, and pale in comparison to the enhanced edge definition (great for sniping!) and detail I get.

Look at the detail on the floor pattern on your first halo shot!

Play the level inside the covenant ship.  Notice all the extra detail you can see in the wall patterns and the controls?  The extra details looks phenomenal.  I don't even notice the decreased anti-aliasing any more.

But I guess if you're jaggie-allergic, yeah, it will bother you.

I found my camera tripod this weekend, so as soon as I can get a few hours I'll do a grand screenshot comparison: composite vs. svideo vs. 480p vs. higher resolutions.

a CRT monitor got a .24 or .26mm DOT PITCH vs a .52mm of the HDTV big screen so it will enhanced the jaggies more since it's more precise
stay 3-4 feet away and its all good
