Title: Evox 3935 Released
Post by: Penfoldian on December 30, 2003, 05:11:00 PM
is there a tool to turn off my PC from my xbox? sounds crazy but it would be ideal for those who use ICS and the pc is quite far away!

ey guys this is  a  real noob question, but im running a very old Evox (1.8.3752). How do i go about updating it to this new one and keeping all the same menu's?

I'm very interested in this too.  After reading some more info, and noting how one of the tutorials mentioned that 1.8.3572 is apparently slightly buggy and may cause loading problems in the game, I'd like to know how to update the evo-x in my xbox as well.

I'm using the pheonix loader with the audio hack, but I doubt that would make much difference from what I have read

It's actually pretty easy.

Make two directories on your PC:

evox_old
evox_new

Extract 3935 into the evox_new directory.

Connect via FTP to your xbox....back up your evox.ini and evoxdash.xbe (or whatever it's named) to the evox_old directory.

Open up both evox.ini files (the old and the new) on your PC.

Change the values under the [NETWORK] section of the new evox.ini file so it contains the same values as the old evox.ini file.

Replace the entire [MENU] section of the new evox.ini file with the information contained in the old evox.ini file.

Save and close the evox.ini file in the new directory.

Transfer the evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini back to the xbox.

IMPORTANT: If the evolution dash is named something different in the old directory, change the name of the dashboard in the new directory to match.
(For example, if the evolution dash is named xboxdash.xbe, rename the evoxdash.xbe file in the new directory to xboxdash.xbe).

That's it.

So I'm upgrading my hard drive, I've extracted the new EvoX zip file onto a cd.  I noticed there were other zipped files within the main zip.  I've also extracted those onto the cd and left the zip drives there.... is that going to be a problem?

with this new evolution x release, i ve had a problem on my PAL xbox with Top Spin (PAL version)
when launching from evolution x, the game didn't boot, it just went straight back to evox

so i change video setting from auto to default, and then no problem, but it seems that in the previous 3921, auto setting worked fine with top spin

so, maybe it s a bug, i don't know...

I've had a (possibly) similar problem trying to run Deus Ex 2 (NTSC) on a PAL XBox - the game goes back to Evo after starting to load.

Not sure what's causing it. It happened with EvoX 3921 as well as 3935.

Hey all,

I read through this thread and didn't notice anyone mention it, but with this new Evox dash IGR seems to be on even if it says "No" in the settings and evox.ini. I can still exit games with the button combo even if it's set to no. Is it just me?

Another oddity I noticed is that the third skin in my Skins directory will never load, no matter which one it is! I have to have a dummy folder with an empty skin ini in the third position or I can't use one of my skins. This actually happened with the previous Evox release as well. A trifle of a bug, but a bug nonetheless which I was hoping would get fixed on this release.

x2 bios's have IGR.

As for the other issue... no idea man.

Hey, I've just upgraded, and everything works fine, the temperatures now even work. Just wondering though, it used to say "Matrix" or something like that on the bootup screen, but now it just says "MS" any ideas why it's done this?

You can inject an image (.raw) into the .xbe with logox.exe (note: this only works with evox bios's, x2 bios's over write this image with their own on the fly)

You can leave the action scripts there, they dont hurt anything, they are only used to un/lock the hard drive.

QUOTE
Are you meant to put that into your'e ini as well? I don't think so but.....

Also, all I did was change the ini and copy the evoxdash.xbe over, is that all that needs to be done to upgrade? Thanks...

Scroll up and read the previous posts, especially snart's

QUOTE
EDIT: There seems to be some kind of bug - When I press "MS DASHBOARD" it reverts me back to the original version of EVOx, (the temps not working). The line is exactly the same, and it still says @3 at the end of it?

The ms dashboard pointer at the top of the .ini is pointing to an evox .xbe, not an ms dash .xbe.  The ms dash should be named xboxdash.xbe while evox should be evoxdash.xbe.

Is there any chance of either scripting or implementing into the evox.ini menu and/or the evoxdash.xbe, the ability to load a particular new skin as you switch between different Sections of the evoxdash menu?

for example:
-----------------------evox.ini--------------------------------
.... snip ....

Section "Root", LOAD SKIN "XBOX_Main"
{
Section "[XBox Games]", LOAD SKIN "XBOX_Games"
   {
Item "Dead or Alive 3", "f:\games\doa3\default.xbe"
      Item "Halo", "F:\Games\Halo\default.xbe"
      Item "Ralli Sport Challenge", "F:\Games\RallySportChallenge\default.xbe"
      Item "World Series Baseball", "f:\games\worldseriesbaseball\default.xbe"
      Item "Boot DVD Game", "d:\default.xbe"
      AutoAddItem "f:\games\"
   }
   Section "[Emulators]", LOAD SKIN "XBOX_Emulators"
   {
---------------------------------------------------------------

The "LOAD SKIN" areas would be used or something like that.

Ripper-X- I had a similar problem. I tried loading the MS Dashbaord from the Evox Menu by choosing the item titled "Ms Dashboard". Well after I chose it, it started loading, however it reverted me back to evox menu. I went back to the evox.ini and found the problem, the evox.ini was directing the item "Ms Dashboard" to xboxdash.xbe. So what I simply did was change the settings so it would direct it to msxboxdash.xbe. Once I did that evox was successfully loading to the MS Dashboard. Hopefully this will help.

grr.gif ohmy.gif ... ok this is whats going on, i made a cd-rw evox3935 boot disc, it loads on my xbox perfectly.. now im trying to make the evo permanetly in my hard drive.. but something is stopping me. i think it has to do with this... this is what i press on the menu.. "System Utils", than "Settings".. than i see Network
exactly like this

(this is in blue highlited letters)

TYPE________________________________(blank)
IP__________________________________(blank)
line status____________________________(blank)
ethernet mac address_______________00:0d:3a:11:8A:AA

(this is in normal white letters)

SETUP NETWORK_______________________YES
USE STATIC IP________________________YES<------isnt this need to be on "NO"?
IP__________________________________192.168.100.10

i tried to NIC.. well this is exactly what i did...start, network connections, right click on LAN HIGH speed connection and clicked on properties, unchecked, than checked the internet protocol (TCP/IP), clicked on properties and this is how i have my ip address set 192.168.0.1. Sub net mask: 255-255-255-0.. and default gateway like this: 192.168.0.2.... now this is where it gets complicated, isnt the USE STATIC IP suppose to be "NO" instead of yes? well i try to change it, but it doesnt let me, i reboot, and still it doesnt let me. there isnt a change and save option on the bottom of the settings menu.... therefore its left unchange.. and this is whats causing(i think) my xbox not to connect to my pc... by the way im using a crossover ethernet cable.. please help me if you have any idea on what may be happening with my situation
Title: Evox 3935 Released
Post by: nyarrgh on April 29, 2004, 09:56:00 AM
if you're using a crossover cable, then that "USE STATIC IP" should be  yes, unless you have a DHCP server running on your PC.

If the IP Address on your PC is 192.168.0.1 , and the sub net mask is 255.255.255.0 ,  then you should change the IP address of your xbox to something like 192.168.0.xxx  (eg 192.168.0.10) having the three "255"'s there means it can only see IP addresses with the same value for the first three numbers.

save and exit, then you'll probably have to reboot the xbox.

having blank values in the network information may mean either
1) you're connecting the cable straight from the XBOX to the PC and it's not really a crossover cable
2) broken cable
3) and this is the most probable,... you turned on the xbox before connecting the cable.  The cable should be connected and active(The other end should already be connected also, and the PC turned on)  when you turn on the xbox.

Okay, this may sound newbish, but I guess I'm sort of a noob again anyway. Its been at least 6 months since I've been in f.x-s, so, here goes:

Apparently the dash update fixed the FTP problems... okay. I had a dash once (about ... 1 year, 1.5 years ago) and it was flawless and the IGR worked (seemingly fine (except on HALO)) but I've updated 3 or 4 times since.

When I FTP to my computer (saving games) via FlashFXP after about 20 mins, it times out. Last night I downloaded 3935 and replaced all my evox files and rebooted, fixed the  IP configurations and whatnot through the INI ...

Anyhow, point is, that my downloads to the computer still time out and the xbox needs to reboot again.

This didn't happen a year ago, but... wtf? Anyhow, I would seriously appreciate some help -- I dont want a 2 hour job to last 4 days.

-twicked

edit: Also, I just pasted the evoxdash.xbe and the .ini over the origionals... do I still have to load the bios?

H: i have an no chip mod x box running the bert and ernie in the fonts folder with an older version of evol x.  i did an upgrade to 3935 but without a cd it boots to the green screen of death.  It will run the 3935 if i run it thru the mechw save game fine, even does the dvd copy.  A couple of questions with respect to this upgrade.  I removed the default.xbe from the c drive and replaced it with the evoxdash.xbe.  I also removed the burt and ernie xtf from the fonts folder.  Do i still need them and should i put the default.xbe back on the c drive.  also with respect to the bios and skin folders, do they need to be put on the xbox c drive as well.  appreciate any help you can give on the subject, as i could not find any tut with respect to this type of upgrade.

ps.  just tried putting the bert and ernie back in the fonts folder, boots to green of death with no cd loaded, so i removed them again.

also tried to have both the default.xbe and evoxdash.xbe in the root of the xbox hd and the evolx would not boot at all just kept rebooting itself.

again the 3935 upg boots up fine using the mecha load linux fine and looks like its pulling the info from the evox.ini on my xbox c drive

You need to go read more.

Your bert and ernie are your hack.
You cant run evox without a hack

I think you may need to sign your defualt.xbe

I read somewhere in here that the FTP problems were fixed in 3752, but I've had nothing but trouble with this version.  The old version has not denied me access a single time, but with 3935 about 70% of the time it will let me connect, but doesn't let me view anything.

i.e. it lists all the partitions but when I try to open one it says "action not taken" or something like that.  To make it work, I have to restart FlashFXP and my Xbox several times, and sometimes it works and usually it doesn't.

I've been running Avalaunch as my primary dash because it has a much more reliable FTP and just looks a lot cooler, but every now and then I need Evox for something and it won't work.  I'd switch back to 3752 but it doesn't support a G partition so I can't.  Avalaunch's only problem is that it uses the X and Z cache so Halo hacking is difficult at best with it.

I'm using a v1.4 box and the Xecuter 4981 bios that's been customized with XBtool and the flubber changer program.

Section "System Utils"
   {
      Item "Settings",ID_Settings
      Item "Flash BIOS",ID_Flash_Bios
      Item "Backup",ID_Backup

the flash bios one probably isn't there, add it like it is here.

Hi,

I bought my xbox a while ago with everything all setup but always had problems with some things eg-xbmp-could never get any files into it
-could never access the ms dash
             -audio cds never worked etc.

I want to upgrade my bios and dash and have a successful ftp going with Transmit. What exactly do I need to download and what exactly do I need to replace?

I want to be able to use my xbox to it's full potential, can someone give me a hand?

Thanks,

You'll need to download the Bios and Dashboard that you want. What dash are you currently using? Also you will want to download the newest version of Xbox Media Center which Replace Xbox Media player (XBMP).  Most any Dash will have built in FTP.   So there is an place to start.  This seems like an weird place to put an post but im not the mod of the group.

Ok, now this has been covered and i think i got it right but i really need confirmation because i do not want to screw up my evox intallation or my box...
i want to upgrade my evox but am still not sure how to do it... smile.gif

i have

- Xbox 1.1
- Matrix Chip (very old), Bios ist still original, so also very old
- evox 3285

am i right in the assumption that the only thing i have to do is replace the old evoxdash.xbe and the old evox.ini (of course updated with my network settings) with the new ones?? Do i also have to get a newer Bios? I hope not, as i wouldn't know which one to take and how to flash my chip...

Thanks in advance

Hello! I use Mac OS X and can happily report that 3935 works wonderfully with Transmit. I was using 3752 w/ X2 4979 and had the FTP problems that were discussed. No longer a problem. Seems faster, too, at about 7300/s via crossover.

Hope FTP works with Debug BIOS now, and works for Transmit on mac... I'll post back about Transmit in a few minutes.

Edit- It now works with Transmit in OS X!  Thanks Team EvoX, you rock!

Anyone had a chance to test the FTP with the debug BIOSes yet to see if its still broken?  Tx.

Well, I'm not sure if that's entirely true.

The last version of EvoX that worked with debug BIOS that I've found is 1.8.2594... at least it could hold an IP address and FTP worked.

I don't know what you guys are talking about for the IGR in the INI, but in the INI I have, there is no settings for the IGR buttons, and there's 3 separate IGR lines... I thought I read here that there was only supposed to be 1 now?

What's going on??
Title: Evox 3935 Released
Post by: heinrich on December 10, 2003, 06:02:00 PM
Ok, I just checked rar that is one xbins... its not quite right.  Evox.ini still works fine, but is a bit misleading.
The IGR setting in [RDTOOLS] and [FTP] have NO effect on IGR.
Also, TSR has 3 settings: Disable/Normal/Debug, and you can disable the IGR with out disable the TSR (Trainer/mode selection).
So..
CODE
DebugTSR   = No

Should be:
CODE
TSR_Type   = 1

I am assuming that you have the option of 1 2 and 3.

Why it was released with the old 3921 .ini - I have no idea.

I'll work on a 'standard' ini and post it up.

You wouldn't happen to know where I could get my hands on an OFFICIAL build 3935 ini file, would ya? I'm sure me and 10,000 other ppl would rather have the real one, just to be safe.

Well, obviously what was released is the 'official' .ini, however non-functioning it is.  I have an .ini that was packaged with this build when it was sent to me to test, so I'll just go through and change the menus and such to the 'standard' release format.

What I do now is keep a 3752 and a 3935 .xbe in my c drive. When I want to do xtoolbox xbox to xbox transfers I use 3752 and then I use 3935 for most everything else, mostly because of improved igr. wink.gif

I rename the .xbe files accordingly or use x-select to choose which one to go to on boot. biggrin.gif

I have noticed that a few of my games will no longer display video when launched from the EvoX 3935 menu.
House of the Dead 3 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (both PAL) will launch, but have no video (audio OK). I have IGR disabled.
If I replace the EVOXDASH.XBE with EvoX 3921, they work again.
Anyone else having similar issues?

**UPDATE**
It seems changing the 'Game Region' setting from AUTO to DEFAULT fixes the problem.

when launching from evolution x, the game didn't boot, it just went straight back to evox

so i change video setting from auto to default, and then no problem, but it seems that in the previous 3921, auto setting worked fine with top spin

so, maybe it s a bug, i don't know...

BUG or My Fault?

Previous version I had FTP problems where blank directories that would freeze up the WSFTP client.  The other FTP problem was directories could not be deleted succesfully all the time and renaming a directory is a problem.  I believe it was 3921.

With 3935 those FTP problems appear corrected

The Problem Currently with 3935.
I have a 180 gig hard drive.  Large F drive NO G Drive.  M7 repacked Bios.  It would appear I cannot copy in any more information into the box above the 127 gig limit.  Although the Evox display tells me I have over 40 gig available.  I simply cannot exceed the 127gig limit.

Yes the INI file is configured for this with no G Drive.

This a recent rebuild using the repacked M7 Bios then Evox 392X for the formatting and Install.

Any ideas or was Evox FTP written with the pre-48LBA addressing?

I installed evox 3935 on my xbox thinking that it will give me my full hdd capacity. I have a maxtor 160gb hdd. But when I check my g partition, it says 0. How can I set it up to get the rest? Also, do I have to flash the m7 bios? I have an old 29 wire chip that is not flashable....how can I get it to work?

You have to have a bios with lba48 support, not just a dash.  You need to get a new chip, or look up how to use the phoenix bios loader.  Feel free to start a new thread if you run into problems.

Hi to all..  I have a problem with bios x2, evox 39xx  and msdash ...

- I've a lpcmod chip (bios 256k)  xbox ver 1.1

bios x2 4979.67
evox  3935 ...
when I run msdash from evox  .. doesn't start and I get an error 21 ..

bios x2 4979.67
evox   3921 ...   same error ..

bios x2 4977
evox 3935 ...     same error...

bios x2 4977
evox  3921 ...  same error ...

bios x2 4979.67
evox  3285  ....     and  msdash   starts !!!!!!!!

bios x2 4977
evox  3285  ....      and  msdash   starts !!!!!!!

where's  the bug ?  in evox 39xx or in bios  x2 ?

can you delete this post ?
I solved..   the msdash isn' t only a file but several files..  files not included  in packs of evox dash...  so my error is to clear c: before load  the evox dash..   after I added only the xbe of msdash... and it can't work using only the xbe!   so .. error 21 ...  sorry for disturb !!!!!!!
it's only a new bie error!   ph34r.gif  ph34r.gif  ph34r.gif  ph34r.gif
