My external programmer hasn't arrived yet so I haven't tried to reflash the modchip using the Installer...worried that if it cooks it I will be stuck until the backorders are filled...

Now is where the problem occurs...I have tried the rebuild using both C and FC...Formats and sets up as normal (or appears to) drive space is as it should be...BUT...I always have the same result...the copy process ends putting me back the menu...I would guess this means it has completed as normal...except... When I remove the media and power down, on rebooting I get my standard Executer2 XBox Logo, then an X3 FTP Server Alpha Logo and thats it...it stays there...indefinitely. I have even tried using the Install EvoX/Apps/Etc option after each of the rebuilds...no change. I can still boot off the CD. My current thought is that some incompatibility exists between EvoX and this BIOS revision...or that the flash that seemed to go so well...really didn't... Any thoughts? My hat is off to you, you have taken all the correct proceures, I did not think anyone would read all the post here but I can't say that anymore- and by a first time poster. LOL
The bios you are using will work with the installer fine but you should change it when you feel comfortable in doing so. 3978.03 was not meant to be a long lived Bios it was a test bios but functions fine as far as my use and testing had gone with it.
As for getting the FTP client of the Bios this is because it (the Bios) can't find a dashboard to load. this because the evoxdash.xbe is missing as well as the xboxdash.xbe is missing. this happens often with the early Xbox that have the Thomson DVD drive.
The Thomson drive is known for its lack in ability to read burned media, because you can FTP into the xbox when using the installer disk you can check that files are copied to the root of C but this will not confirm it will run because you cant check file condition or run ability.
The best media for the 1.0 xbox with the thomson DVD is DVD-R it is the most compatable and readable of any other media other then retail games disks that are pressed not burned
I invite you back to the IRC channel for one on one help in getting through time problem, ask for myself @SS113 or @BigZ we are both Ops of the channel and will spend the time needed to get you going. If I am not there seek out BigZ and tell him SS113 sent you to him for help. you will need to explain everything again in the chat but we can get to the bottom of your problem

A further note to anyone else...if you only see a few file names whip by during the "rebuild" of a new drive before the process "finishes" you need to make a new Installer disc with different media...
You will see a LOT more file names zip across...and if you use DVD media it is *drastically* faster...
In retrospect I should have confirmed that all of the files copied using FTP and not bothered you with this...in any event Thanks for the quick response and for helping me resolve my problem!
Now...I am off to play with things...

Glad to hear you got it working and it was only a media problem. Although that is what i felt it was there can be other things since you have no other problem at this time we wont go there.
Anyone who reads the Doc's about the F install (stelth) it is printed there you must use a FC booting bios and it even explains why this is needed.
The Bios is the link to many users problems besides media. I tried to place warnings too aleart users of special features requirs special bios but so many users dont read till there is a problem then it sometimes is too late for a simple fix. A fix is almost always possable with simple changes but then some take more involved tinkering to resolve it. I am glad it help many get into the xbox and hope there will be more users who will read first.

The problem is the bios, you are using. You will have to rename some files
First, rename xboxdash.xbe to msxbdash.xbe then rename evoxdash.xbe to xboxdash.xbe
this will allow the Xbox to boot to evox.

You basically just need to FTP into your Xbox and edit the "evox.ini" file. Find the section for "Play Games from HD" and see what directories it's pointing to. If the directory with your games in it isn't there or is named wrong, correct it so it matches the pathname exactly. This is what that section of my evox.ini file looks like for instance:
Section "Play Games from HD"
{
Line "- Games on the Hard Drive -",2
AutoAddItem "E:GAMES"
AutoAddItem "E:HDDLoader"
AutoAddItem "f:GAMES"
AutoAddItem "f:HDDLoader"

You post is not clear enough to help you at this point, if you are having problems in the mIRC channel ask for help in the channel there is plenty of people to help you there. as for www.adobe.com and a problem getting acrobat reader v6 from them I cant do anything about that, hundreds of users update there reader weekly to read the doc's and you are one that cant and that suggests problems on your end.
mIRC is a much faster source of help then this is because it is in real time.

when you say you go to the ms dash the screen is missing icons, i will guess this is from the menu to access the dash, but if you reboot the xbox with chip off you can see a complete ms dash, this makes me think there is some files corruption or damaged files in the ms dash. This can happen when the files are copied from the install media.
You have 2 options first is to redo the ms dash from the install disk and you can just replace the dash it self with messing with nothing else ( read the doc's) this is what i suggest as first choice, second is go on xbox live and let it update the dash. this will give you the full 2.0 dash from MS MAKE SURE CHIP IS OFF USING LIVE.

It is clear to me that you have a problem even using the PC, This really concerns me that I dont think you would be able to use this tool in and end up with a workable xbox in the end. please try to read more about what your getting into because I don't want to see anyone kill an xbox. This tool used the wrong way will kill an xbox so please do some research about modding before you continue this path.

The no ident will correct it self allow it to try a few times, as for the password problem is probably caused by your nick you are using is regestered to someone on the server and your passwoed does not match, use a differant nick and try again. good luck

The latest bios out is the 4979.xx , The installer has X2 4977 and M7 bios but the new 4979 is not in the installer. M7 and 4979.xx have the same features except the IGR is built into the bios to prevent software conflicts with games. Which is best it is a matter of choice I personally use 4979.06 on my systems.
If you see a color name in the name of the bios this is the color of the X logo the Big X you see when the xbox boots. personally I like the color because I use xboxlive and I know as soon as i boot if the chip is on there is no mistake I see a BIG blue or RED X i know the chip is on.
As for the FC options this is a custom bios and can be made of any bios but it is not a default in a currently released bios you can use the XBTool to edit the bios yourself to suite your needs. All official release of Bios have a readme or NFO file that discribes the bios features as well as the xbox-scene tut pages have a compairson chart of the bios. because you not at the modded point yet you have a little a little time to find the bios and tools you may want and to read what they are all about before going in totally blind. you have a good start you are exploring the installer and doc's that is a plus on your part.

There is nothing wrong with the links on the first page of this thread about the how to connect to the mIRC. as for a link to get it some other way is against the policy of the forum. if you can't figure out how to get it the same way evertone else can then you SOL.

open the doc's you will see what the screens should look like and what should be there a well as what options you have available and what they are all explained. the problem is media related it may be the way the disk was burned the media used for the burn or your xbox DVD drive, the last i doubt since it loaded a faulty burn disk.

When I unrar those files, in each folder is a Nero Image file.
What exactly should I do in order to burn this in order to use it and where are the Documents that I need to be reading?????

what you need to use is the mIRC and come to the channel and get the official release of the installer, the doc's are included in the download or you can get them by themselves from the channel.
The info on connecting to the mirc is on page 1 of this thread and is not hard at all to figure out. read the text you're greeted with for channel and file commands and your good to go.

Well, I have tried that but it would take me over 28 hours to download it off of the IRC channel because I am stuck on Dial up and I really do not need to be tieing up my phone line that long. It only takes 5 or so hours to get it off the newsgroups so I would really like to work with what I have already gotten.

Well, I have gotten on I assume the real server for this file on MIRC and it is giving me my top download speed, so I will have it in about 5-5 1/2 hours. I'll let ya know how it goes after I get it.
I was only getting about 1.5kbs on someother server before, therefore the 28 hours I mentioned to download. Hopefully I get it without getting disconnected first

Our server is very fast and tons of bandwidth, at the time I am writing this the stats are current speed 510.2KB/s , Cap 3000.0 KB/s, Record 1455.7 KB/s, so you see there is plenty for your dialup line. Also the files will resume if you disconnect or get disconnected for any reason so there will be no problems getting it except the time 56K takes.

Do not use the initial X2 4980 Bioses YET!!!
There is still a posibility of getting banned by XBL if the game updates your dash ( Unreal Championship is an example )
Team Xecuter is aware of this so please wait till they patch this issue!

Created a new bios for myself, added the bios name and hash to my evox.ini... and I'd like to flash from within evox. Can I simply add a line to the .ini to make it do it like the installer? I did this with 2.1, but can't remember how. I have already copied my new bios to c:BIOS and F:BIOS
What would the code for my .ini be to add a menu item to flash chip with this bios (modified 4979.67)?
Thanks! Slayers is the best... got my foot in the door- working on my own installer... just have to learn how to create the ISO properly... never reads mine right...

Got it figured out. Didn't realize it was a feature of EVOX... thought it was something that the Slayer's installer did. check out the evox thread if you have the same question... it's relatively easy.- in the Pinned FAQ for that forum. (Flashing Bios for NOOBS or something like that).

The new 2.5 kicks absolute @$$, I was at the end of my rope trying to get my 250GB drive up and running!! Slayer 2.5 made it easy-peazy...I do have one problem though:
I flashed my mod with 4979.67, I have a big ol' F: drive and a big G: drive as well, I can FTP and run games from F: with no problem, but I can't run anything from my G: drive. I can FTP the files onto G:, and I can see the G: drive from boXplorer, but the games don't appear in the "Launch Games from HDD" menu, nor can I launch the default.xbe file from boXplorer (it takes me back to the main dashboard menu when I try). I have added the G:Games path to the AutoAdd section of the evox.ini already, and the Settings give me the right size for the G: drive but I can't launch anything from it. Any ideas?

Making sure you didn't make the same mistakes I made at first...
First of all, make sure on G you have a "games" folder. (I don't think it's case sensitive.) SECOND... make sure you put your games there. ( I made my folder but missed the folder when I dragged in FTP prog and transferred them all to G: instead of G:games)

Thanx for the reply...I actually did it exactly like that, copied & pasted the AutoAdd section (partially to get the formatting right, partially 'cuz I'm lazy
)...I re-did my drives, re-installed Slayer's EvoX and utils, made the same changes to the evox.ini file, and for some reason it worked. I must have messed up something in the evox.ini file, but I don't see what or how...strange! But there was definitely a Games folder, it was referenced as G:Games (in spite of what my original post may have said...), I don't know. Pretty weird, but glad it worked, for sure!Thanks again for the help!

I've done the reading (slayer's Instructions and Readme, as well all every post on this thread) -- but I've managed to f*ck it up anyhow-- in 2 ways:
Current rig:
XBox 1.1
X 2.3 Lite Mod Flashed to XC 4977
Problem #1)
After the xbox has been powered up for a while, when I reboot, the video is black and white (grayscale to be exact). Otherwise functions normally (sound, dash, etc) -- seems to be heat related, if left off for a while (15-20 min) boots in color as usual. Any ideas what is wrong? The modchip functions flawlessly in everyother way (b/w video issue began after mod-chip install).
Problem #2)
I've read and re-read the instructions for using the slayer auto installer to format and use a new larger HD (I'm starting with a cheap 40GB Maxtor before I go crazy) -- but I can't seem to get it to work -- the instructions.pdf is unclear about 1 thing -- after I boot up with the slayer disc (original HD) -- when do I swap the old HD for the new? Is this a hotswap (ie after the box has booted the slayer disc with the orig HD) - or do I power down and swap, then try to boot the slayer disc with the new HD connected? Neither appears to work for me--
When I hot swap, video goes out when I plug the power into the new HD.
When I cold swap, I get errors on powerup (no dashfound, bad hd, etc) -- doesn't seem to be booting from the slayer disc at all.
I would appreciate any help you guys could give.

Anyways, thanks a bunch for the great software, it rocks. Your instructions on burning the image helped a lot also, I got it to go on the first try with a Thompson drive and the first cdrw I tried as well (tdk 650M 4-10x burned at 4x with nero).

The most likely cause of this is bad media, meaning you may not have used a "NEW" CD-RW or DVD-R to burn the installer ISO to.
another problem may be you have a Thomson DVD drive in the Xbox and are know for not reading burned media correctly.
there are ways around this problem using a PC dvd drive to install with or burning the ISO to a DVD-R should fix your problem.

Yes you read correctly, I will say not all xbox machines will read the bios.bin file on the root of the installer. it is not clear why some will and some wont but the results are if after several attempts the cromwell bios dose not load the bios from the disk make plans to make a bios flash disk. there is no way to force the xbox to read the file it is just a querk. I hope your xbox does read it to save you some time.

Because you stated this only came about after the chip install confirmed what I was thinking before reading the end of the first post and by the end of this post is that you have a solder splash or a some sort of short on a video trace on the motherboard.
because this goes away when the machine cools down it may also be a crackor damaged trace on the Motherboard, the reason i say this as the temp of the motherboard increases and the board expands the trace breaks connection or the shot makes contact and the results in color loss in the video. Check the board close for flaws caused by you or a stary piece of solder that got dropped or splashed during the install.

Is it possible? Yes with exploits and a bios loader it is possible...
However, SlaYer's doesn't support exploits, only modchips. The modchip bios looks for the "default.xbe" file on the SlaYer's disc in order to boot, which is why a modchip is needed to boot the disc.
Error 16 is a dashboard error that is usually a system clock error. What caused this error 16? Could you give some more detail on what happened?

Once you have unlocked a retail xbox HDD in Config Magic you should have no problem slaping that badboy in your PC and formating it for Windows.

It would seem that the xbox is still sending color data to the cable socket, which makes me think there may be something amiss inside the socket itself, or with the socket's connection to the MB. I haven't messed with it much, but I did use a new DVD-R Ritek for my disc.
I will try it with a new cd-rw and report back in a little while.

I burned the .iso onto a Verbatim CD-RW at 2x.
Booted up, disc works. Ran Clean Format of Retail Drive, rebooted.
Ran Restore Retail Drive to Factory, rebooted.
Ran 5-2 Install/Upgrade XBMP, Apps, EvoX- Retail HD c: then removed disc and powered down.
Use power only button to turn on and.... Oops! Error 13
What now?????

The new info about the video connector is a big thing. First if you look things over and find nothing wrong check thte solder connections of the Video socket to motherboard. If you dont see anything loose or wrong go ahead and heat each point to melt the solder good thes should fix a cold joint (a solder connection not making good contact) and cure the problem if it is at that point, after doing this and reassembling the Xbox see what the video results are if you get a repeat proformance of the B/W screen i would look at getting a new cable for the video. please post your findings so all can learn from your experiance.

Just one question, if you add your own skins to the installer skin folder, if theirs a large amount 100+ only half are installed and a load of spaces appear on the skin select menu, also applies if you add a lot of roms on the emu menus and the trainers ?.
Everything works fine if you ftp the files over but it would be nice to include it on the cdrw install.

Try L,R,Back and Black (instead of Start). It's also best to do the IGR combo from the main menu of a game, not during a game load, etc. You could also try turning off the IGR's in evox.ini (System Settings) since the IGR is in the X2 Bios itself.
As far as XBMC you can simply get it from #xbins on EFnet, unrar it to a folder, and then FTP that folder over to "Apps" directory on EorF (retail or large hdd) of Xbox and it will show up. Keep in mind you should already have XBMP installed with SlaYer's though. Good luck!

I found that IGR was freezing my Xbox a lot (black screen of death) when I upgraded to the 4979.06 BIOS, until I disabled IGR in all of the spots in the evox.ini, and now it works great; it seems to be even more reliable than the IGR in v4977!

Basically you just need to go to GentooX Website and download the iso, burn it and boot the xbox with it. Just make sure you read the attached Gentoox docs as far as where to install it, etc. Beware it can flash your chip if you tell it to, so read up. Good luck!

You asked some good questions and they are answered well in the doc's. you really should read through them before using the installer for the sake of your Xbox. The tool is very power full in what it is able to do.
Also the tool SlaYerS Evox Auto installer is a script run under evox, what this means it cant make any choices for you. The options are cut and dried as to what they will do and there is no way to change the options unless you want to dive in to the script and rewrite it and by the way you.re welcome to when the need arises later on. the backup you did from the installer menu is only of the EEPROM and hdd key of the Xbox and is located in the folder on the Xbox C: backup. this is the title to your Xbox you might say dont loose it and dont share the info. also burn to a CD for safe keeping alony with the rest of the stuff the Doc's tell you to back up. This is important info as are the orignal files of your xbox should you ever need them later on. as for the IP address in the xbox the doc's tell you how to check it and what it is set to if you are connecting using a router if not you have 2 choices , follow the tut on the Xbox-scene tut pages (see link below) for using a Nic and crossover cable or many other type of setups or edit the installer and reburn. not many choices here but you have to one or the other inorder to be able to Use FTP to back up the HDD before using the installer in any way !
you have been WARNED about backing up before doing anything to the HDD or Xbox.
Please Read the Doc's all of it you will be glad you did, if something goes wrong and you dont end up with what you wanted you failed to take the suggestion about reading the doc's.

it takes hours to put evox on ur xbox then ftp software you could use? damn you must be real slow then or just really dramatic for it to take HOURS, whatever happened to people learning how to do things for themselves regardless of how long it takes, the feeling of being accomplished at doing it yourself is much more rewarding than downloading slayers and using that. guess not that many ppl take pride in doing things for themselves these days even when it doesnt involve HOURS as you exaggerate to.

This crap has already been addressed in this tread try reading back a few before posting.
This is to everyone out there using or thinking of using the installer:
First and foremost NO ONE is asking you to use it
Second the only download you can trust is from our mIRC channel anywhere else we cant control.
Therd there is no virus or trojan in any released download from our servers, there never has been either.
if you or anyone has a question about the installer join the IRC channel and ask away, we have been in the same channel and same server for over a year now, i think all your comments about not addressing anything are unfounded we are always there 24/7.
also for a note "NO ONE" has shown me or contacted me with proof of this crap so till i see proof it is BULL SHIT to me.

Since the installer has all the latest tools that expect a new bios, you MUST update your Mod Chip/BIOS to either one from the selection included on the Installer. If I have xbox v1.0 4034, but no modchip, just softmodded. I would need to get X2 4977 then I should be alright with slayers disc, correct ?

We do not support the use of Soft Mods for the simple reason as soon as M$ updates the dash your mods is wipped out, I may be wrong there may be an exploit that works better then all the users that come into the channel and want to know how to get back into there xbox because they clicked on the live in a game and now they get error code screen or only the M$ dash.
We can help with the any problem that comes up when using the installer with a mod chip because it is hardwareand does not change unless the user changes it. Softmods dont have this protection. If you use 4977 or newer the installer will work fine as long as you deal with the exploit end of it.
we will also help with any issues with the install other then dealing with the exploit in the forum or the mIRC, Sorry but just to many issues with exploits to deal with and compound user related issues using the installer.

The new HDD loader is supposed to also have a list-game feature so you can tell what the game files are, that's another thing I've been wishing for.
The manual with Slayers is really nice and complete but they dont address how to make any additions or changes to the included apps. I'm sure it's easy once you know how

For those that do installs all the time, an auto-installer tool is great, especially when you arent doing the mods near a PC. For those who use it as an easy way out of reading, shame on them, not the people who make slayers.
I think half the problem comes from people 'newbs' not understanding what the tool is, and how they can LEARN from it instead of making it their life line to get anything done on the xbox. I've seen questions like "How can install XBMP on my xbox" with the answer of "just get slayers, it does everything for you".
Maybe some of this comes from the slayers 'support team', one member of which I have seen say, "its not evox, no its tool coded by slayer END OF STORY". Obviously that is not everyone, but when people are told such things they think that it is the holy grail of xbox modding.
In any event, this is a thread to help people w/ the use of slayers, you aren't going to change anyone's mind by posting thats it 'sucks ass' or whatever.

Yes, evox will run fine, it doesnt matter chip is used. Whether or not evox supports flashing the chip is yet to be seen.

If you read the OnJoin....you would have noticed the command "!help". This command was specially developed for people like you. As you can see its not "Fool-Proof" as you would need to read it, type it and hit enter and then read some more.
Not being able to follow simple steps like this is what makes me belive that your quest to Mod your Xbox will come up short.

Media patches have not changed for either of those 2 games, so new version of either of those programs will not help you, your problem lies elsewhere (suitable for another thread). Also, you don't have to wait for a new version of slayers to be released to use the latest software. For the 2 apps that you mentioned, you can just replace the folders that contain those apps with the newest versions. You can do this on the xbox after using the installer, or replace the apps in the .iso.

Slayers is a compilation of the most commonly used apps, into an automated installer package. All of those apps are available on XBINS, but Slayer's serves as a valuable time-saving utility.

Your best bet is to go to xbins and get the newest apps that are buggin' out on you and then upgrade them via FTP to your Xbox. Make sure you do save your config files if you have specail configurations set up as you can use them on the newer versions...

The setup for F&G partitions or big F partions depends on the bios you are running. ex: 4980.06 is big F, 4980.67 is F&G. At the time of the SlaYer's installer release the big F option was still in testing so only the option for F&G was released in the official installer. Now that big F is proved to be stable you could flash your chip with that bios (X2 4980.06 for instance) and then format a new HDD with Slayers if you wanted and it would format big F just fine...

I have a problem with the Evolution X, i'm from europe and i try to watch a DVD from the US but when i put it, the EvoX start looping, it try to read the DVD but after goes to the Dashboard, and after the Dashboard it try to read the DVD (and keep doing the samething), i disabled the DVD autorun. And if i try to use the first option of the Evox (Launch DVD) it happen the samething but if i use the MS Dashboard with the hack for region free i can watch the movie without any problem.
What is the software the Evox is using to read DVD movies?

Got it all lined out. No media problem or drive issue. It was the fact that I was using the 4976.02 bios.
I put on the 4979.67 bios and it went through with no problems. So in the end, just an old bios.
Anyway it is a great app, just wish it had the option included to choose between dongle free and regular dvd playback.
I, for one, can't stand using a regular controller to navigate dvd's.

Why? Becasue they are focusing on their individual lives and in the little time they have to spare they update their products or release new ones to benefit all of us.
Unlike the mod chip teams which can make money selling their chips and can afford to be there all the time answering forum posts from their customers, myself and the OPs in the #slayers channel do this as a hobby and out of the goodness of our hearts. We've never seen a penny for all our hard work.
Only a handfull of people out of the tens of thousands that have download the free installer from the IRC channel and recived help there have become OPs and have ever tried to help the rest.
We all have lives, jobs and bills to pay and people should be happy that we do as much as we have done instead of criticizing.
Remember to respect the OPs for sacrificing their precious time and all their volunteer efforts by asking educated questions and not driving them crazy.
Now go and have some fun with your xbox!

You are correct and I stand corrected on that point. I admit that I have overreacted and was missinformed, not to mention a little upset, but not at Team EvoX.
I have fully embraced EvoX, made it the core of the installer and helped promote it as the best dash almost since it's inception.
I have never had a "large ego issue" like you said to Scotsman in our channel, nor did I ever take credit for anyone else's work. Feel free to read the docs...
In the future, if you have a problem with something that I said, please be so kind as to IM me or email me directly rather then be rude on the channel, curse and insult the OPs. are you using an xecuter bios? if so turn off IGR in your evox as thats probably whats causing your crashes/black screens. its because of an incompatability of the IGR being on dash and bios at the same time. i belive there are 3 IGR on/off switches in the older versions of evo-x and 1 on/off in the newest one.

Well, the X2 4981 was just released and in my mind it should be the best due to the anti XBL code.
Untill the bios modding tools catch up however I will not test it... give it another week or so and ask me then

It's either a bios problem (you need one with +137GB support) or a jumper on your HD, check carefully.

Anyway.
Great tool, easy to use but i'm still having problem loading the apps and games from the HD. It freeze at the loading splash. I went through all the 50 pages of post and tried what was suggested there, i.e. reinstall M$ dash. Still not working... Tried FTP to transfer the M$ dash to xbox (bypassing the Thomson drive), still not working.
The Evox menu show my Bios as Unknown.
Am i doing something wrong ?

thanks a millions for showing every single steps, finally able to get it downloading at 55kb/s still 30minutes to go. i really hope there is a much simple steps for people like us who know nuts about these IRC commands......i really feel like typing the old dos command......when will a more idiot version came out for us..

Yes, Once you get Slayers booted, follow the "pre-Steps" in the docs and then use FTP to transfer your data to your PC for storage. I recommend burning to cd-r or dvd-r for safe keeping. If you plan to use a larger harddrive, there is no need to backup anything but game saves. Keep your original HDD on a shelf and dont use it to store your avi & mp3 files on your comp. The small size isnt worth converting it to a PC hdd.

My sincere thanks go to our member CoRP5e for running it as long as he has!

I have read I need to downgrade my bios (i'm currently waiting for my programmer to arrive as I flashed away my cromwell bios). Mean time, I have been busy working on reviving my machine.
A couple of days ago, I put in the Halo DVD on the DVD rom and booted the XBox with the chip on. To my suprise, this booted and I was able to play the game. The XBox demos don't work though but everything else seems ok. I then tried all my other games with no success. I'm puzzled about why Halo works and the others don't.
Anyway, thinking about booting from the CD. I searched for bootable applications that could actually help me out of the mess I am in. I fould the 'xtoolbox' boots and I can delete stuff and add stuff but it's buggy and often has problems giving a permission denied and trying to delete a folder with nothing in it.
Ok, I continue looking and also founf PBL but was unaware of how that works so looked further and thats where I found Slayers. However, I was dissapointed that the cd does not boot on my XBox. I would imagine if would have been ok if my XBOx has no problems but since my XBox is so picky about running software now I think software like Slayers should be geared towards working with the XBoxs that need the functions the most.
Ok, there maybe a 101 reasons why the cd's don't work or why it don't boot like it's suposed to. The XBox is new. I have backups. I just don't have a way for getting stuff onto the XBox reliably.
Please take a look at PBL, Xtoolbox and Halo to seeif they are using a method that your not using to boot the program.
It feels like the XBox is in kind of a safe mode where it does not want to run alot of the software I throw at it.

1) Not yet, it is in the works (always check my signature to be sure)
2) Simply extract the ISO, with Qwix for example, and edit the evox.ini file to change the name of the XBMP to XBMC (including the folder name). Then remove the XBMP files and replace them with XBMC. Follow with carefully editing the XBMC .XML file to suit your needs & ftp to your xbox, if all works good, use Qwix again to rebuild the ISO and burn it. Done.

I installed Slayer 2.1 a few months back and love it! Works exccellent, only one issue...
I have a 250 GB HD and I use the EvoX game loader to start my games. I load my games with PxHDD - Neither of those programs seems to find my other 120 GB - I believe that it is "G" drive??
Does Slayer 2.5 include updates to PxHDD and or the EvoX software so that I can load games to my other partition?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I am kind of fumbling my way through this!

Asside from the posibility of a corrupt download, try burning it as an Image with Stomp's RecordNow DX or MAX at 1X and with verify ON using a virgin CD-RW or better yet, a DVD-R
I've had 100% success with that program and DVD-R media burned at 1X

Read the doc's bro. Open up the "instructions" pdf and read page 13.
You have plenty of choices to choose from. To just install all the apps choose option 5(INST/UPG XBMP etc etc etc) and go from there. Its pretty much self explanatory.

After the rebuild process, I took the CD out and power off.
Then power it on I got the regular M$ dashboard. No apps whatsoever.
Then I thought I need to install EvoX and the apps seperately. Then I went and choose option 5-2 "Install XBMP, M$DASH, APPS and EvoX on *F*. It copy all the App files to the F drive.
Then took the CD out and turn it off and back on again. Still boot to M$ Dash.
Any idea?

If your hacked dashboards are on the F drive you have to change the bios to look for them in the F drive, by default they look in C. Use XBtool for this. Or you can boot up to slayers, FTP into the xbox, move the dash you want to use to the C partition, take out slayers and reboot.

The install went fine, the dash works fine, except the XBMP, which is greyed out. After reading through the manuals again, I found that this might be because of a cheap CD-RW, so I bought a good one, burned the auto-installer iso file to it, and went to re-install the XBMP from the menu, but it says "no disc" in the EvoX dashboard and won't boot to it. It also wont boot to the original CD-RW I installed from, is this normal?

I completed config D - Retail HD / Mod chip can be turned off.
You might want to check the instructions documentation for this setup in that I found that the Selection/Action numbers did not sync with the menu action. The numbers actually were instructing me to load to large HD not Retail.

The only thing you are changing is the partition it looks for, and yes you will have to reflash if you want to keep the dash on the F partition. You can save yourself from reflashing by moving the dash files to the C partition.

Try following the directions in the Docs. Also try a CD-R. Some people with "sammy" drives are having luck with the CD-R. If your still having trouble, stop by the #slayers channel and we'll figure it out.

You need a Flashed chip to boot the media. Does the chip have cromwell on it? If so, build a Bios flash disk.

OK, I'm new at xbox modding and I've recently installed an X2.3B Lite+ The only CD I recall using during the whole installation/flashing process was a CD with Slayers 2.5 Auto Installer that a friend of mine gave me. Is it safe to assume that my bios version would be this "X2 4977 *FC* +137G" because EvoX would say the bios version is unknown, and the BiosChecker utility that came with the installer can't seem to tell what version it is either. Oh yeah, I do believe both banks on the modchip already came with Cromwell on it.
I just really wanna know if this Slayers Auto Installer has the bios it mentioned on it cos I think knowing a thing such as what bios you're using is kind of important heh

If interested in the best compatibility across ALL Xbox DVD drives, and if you can do it, burn a DVD-R and you'll never have any issues. (Alternatively have a freind burn one for you)

Well all the skins should reside in the "skins" folder either on C: E: or F: depending on where you installed EvoX based on your HD type.

Dont know if you already tried messing around with SlaYers auto install but ill answer your question anywho.
You can flash your chip with any bios you want. Wether its on the auto install or not, SlaYers 2.5 will work flawlessly unless a mess up from human error. Go ahead and flash with your 4981, and use SlaYers 2.5 to install the apps. Read the doc to find out the option, should read something like "Install Apps on a retail HD(if thats what you are going to use, if not select the upgraded HD option) on a modchip that can be turned OFF"

Cromwell is mainly used to give the user a easy experience flashing the chip with a hacked bios, so yes you will need to flash it in order to get SlaYers to work.

Depends if your using a router with DHCP support (auto assign IP's). For me I didnt need to change anything in the evox setting within SlaYers, it recognized my IP right away and FTP worked flawlessly.

you have to make a folder in the root of the C drive called "bios" (dont put in the quotes...) then add the following line to evox.ini: Item "Flash BIOS",ID_Flash_Bios

I gave you a link, with a list of every bios. That chart tells you exactly which bioses work on 1.4/1.5, and which do not. (hint: red box = doesnt work, green box = works)

what i dont understand is how could i use the same disc to install the bios and it was obviously able to read it to put the bios on there but now it says it cant read it. and what is a branded disc and imation?

Sorry for any confusion. by branded disc i mean "eg: Sony, Verbatim etc...).
It also looks like your slayers disc is not a correct xbox iso.
Try using Quix or Xiso to create a new iso and re-burn.

The first thing you both should do is read the documentation that comes with the download there is a full tutorial on how to burn the ISO you download. It even has pictures for those who may have problems reading the English language.
Since you have not read the DOCs I will inform you now that you need Adobe acrobat reader 6 and it is free from www.Adobe.com and I see no reason for your problems if you had followed the directions. Also incase you miss it in the docs using a used or formatted or erased CD-RW is not recommended under any condition. The reason is they seam to give data errors when the Xbox drive reads the disk although it looks like everything went smooth sometimes files dont transfer completely. This is a warning to those especially with the Thomson DVD drive.
If you can read the contence of the disk you burned in the PC you wrote it with you burned the disk wrong. The PC will not see the files on the Xbox Format disk. The ISO Slayers is made with Quix and thousands have used it just fine and then there are those who dont read first that have many problems!

hmmm not I havent had any problems with ftp....not yet anyways...only difference is that you installed over slayers correct?? I know you can use xdisk to fix evox settings..have u tried that?? if not go to X-disk website and ask da man himself...

Use acrobat Reader 6 from adobe to read the doc's that came with the ISO of SlaYers.
in there you will find all the info to burn to DVD or CD-RW and the proper method even with pictures of the Nero software that is also free like acrobat 6 is. this would be the best place to start, how do I know? I wrote them so people would have them on hand so they dont waste time looking for answers on the net.

Thanks for putting the install disk together, I used it easily with an Xbox I modded for my brother-in-law. It works well and saves a lot of time. I was hoping to use it on the one I bought for me, but after wasting so much time with burning CDRW's, I realized it was just simpler to do it via FTP and much less time consuming.
Hopefully this post will help others with obnoxious DVD drives.

I should have inclueded the info for changing Nero from CD media to DVD media.
there is 2 ways to do change from CD to DVD burning in Nero 6, first is in the burn window after you select the ISO file, a burn window pops up. look in the top left corner of the window you will see in BOLD is Burn Compulation just below that it will say CD or DVD this is where you select what type of media you wish to burn the ISO to. if burning to CD-R or CD-RW you select CD, if you want to use a DVD-/+R or RW select DVD by selecting the little arrow to the right of DVD or CD to toggle between the 2.
The other way is to select it before you ever select anything and when you are in the Nero StartSmart first screen there is three (3) tabs in the upper right corner of the menu [ HD-Burn ] [ DVD ] [ CD ]
the one selected will be extended down and highlighted, useing either method is acceptable although the first is easy because you can make the choice at the time to burn with no forethought. But there is differant options in the first menu that can only be selected if you select it there first so both have a use.
Now for your drive if you had burned the ISO to a DVD-R you probably would have not had the troubles you did, "FYI DVD-R is the prefered media" the good news is you did get it going. And because you can FTP to the box you can install some of the newer apps that have been released since 2.5 was released. something to think about is the evox.ini files (3) in the installer may help you configure your custom self install. just a thought you can view them to edit yours and see how the menu functions. also if you need or want to edit or extract the ISO use Quix that is what the ISO was created with.

As for the web site I cant answer that with certainty but it is in the works is all I can say to that. As for the next release of the installer? Well lets say there is always one in the works that is in a beta form and always being tweaked but as for a release date there is no near future date in mind or expected. When you see there is a new release on page one of this thread or a post in this forum that there is going to be a new release soon, then you can expect to see one in about a week from that post and Slayer will usually give a date as when he expects to release it.

Using X-Disk or Slayers is a matter of choice, personaly I have not used or even looked at the X-Disk but I am sure you will find it just as helpful as Slayers disk is.
Remember the installer Disks are only tools to get you started not to update your systems everytime there is a new or updated app released. The object of the installer is to get you into the xbox where you can do changes on your own and learn more about what is going on with it. the more you learn about the workings of the apps and dashes the more you can do with the Xbox. it goes hand in hand.

well 4981 is not in the installer 2.5, so it was not from the installer disk. if your problem with the no boot and blank screen now because you did flash the bios with the installer disk then the problem is the BIOS is not compatable with your xbox. why because the earlier bios some did not support the new video chips in the newer xbox's.
What can you do well since the Aladin and Apple chips do not have OS systems in them nor do they support other means of flashing other then evox or some other tool that relys on the Xbox and a working hacked bios or working cromwell bios.
In short you need another chip to replace the one your using now or install it in an older xbox to flash to a newer bios, that is if the boot problem is because of an older bios and not a bad flash, if it is a bad flash your still in need of a new chip or another chip with the same flash chip to HOT SWAP it and that can be pretty tricky since you may have soldered the chip to the board and not a pin header or wire install.
there are much better chips available, and for an added 20 bucks you get alot more then a few wires and external switch, for instance the Xenium can recover from a bad flash through USB port also has selectable banks so you can run differant bios at the flick of a switch, also has HDD copy so you can copy an Xbox HDD to a new HDD and no need for a PC and is pretty fast as well . these are only a few of the options the chip has built into it. as well so do Xbit and others.
As for the media you are using, CD-R is not recommended at all, NEW CD-RW or DVD-R are the best to use and DVD-R the best all around choice. CD-R and USED CD-RW's thend to cause data error during the copy process of the install, this leads to programs not functuning or hanging or not available in the menu, as well as MS dash problems.
Sorry to hear you have had such problems and wish there was an easy answer to your problem but there is not one simple fix in your case. I recommend you get a better chip and start over on that Xbox. as for which installer should you use well that is a matter of choice, Slayers is a very good tool as is X-Disk even though i have not used it. these tool are to get you going and not meant to be the end of modding of the xbox on your part, once your in update or change to suit your needs and wants, even the disk to install what you want it to and set up to your liking. Just dont stop at the installer dig into it.
Also your clock issue sounds like a bad chip install or something you did inside is grounding the mother board out causing the system to loose its time like you say it is doing.

After using an old installer that only installed evox and boxplorer, I used slayers 2.5 to update and add the extra apps to a mates box.
All seemed fine and it runs games from disc and xbmp runs fine also. Some apps however dont load and when games are stored on hd either via ftp or through boxplorer, the evox loading screen comes on and then goes back to the evox menu. (Hdd loader is one app that doesnt load).
The box in question has a v1 executer with obviously an old bios, but I have the same in mine and it works fine.
Can I/Should I rebuild the retail hd using slayers and start again?
If so, can I re-install the game saves?

I just upgrade my 120GB HD using the Slayer2.5 installer disc the only problem is that it's not recognizing the games that were in the HD before.
I installed o game from the CD to HD to find were the software will install but I could not find it.
Before use to be on the HDLoader folder but now I couldn't find it.
Could someone help out on what can I do for Slayer to recognize my old games that are already installed in HD before I installed Slayer and on which forlder is Slayer installing the new games when I copy from the CD ???????

Your Problem is a clasic example of bad medis or DVD reading problems, this can be the DVD drive brand Thomson itself, the reason programs fail to load and hang or return to the Evox dash is missing or corrupt program files and in some cases even missing or corrupt MS dash files.
because no installer has a checking rutine to see if the files are copied correctly it will continue if the file fails or not, this leads to problems down the road as why is this app not working right or working at all.
So a good place to start is to make sure the disk is a "NEW" CD-RW or a DVD-R disk, reinstall what you did before and see if it corrects the problem, also use a DVD cleaner disk on the DVD drive in the Xbox the laser may be dirty.

OK to start- HDDLoader puts games on F if you used large disk install of apps and E if you used Retail install of apps.
Depending on where your games were on the drive before, E or F and the folder structure will depend on if they will be displayed.
HDDLoader will lets say to F in the apps folder in HDDLoader folder and then PX0001 where PX0001 is the first game installed this is also the way or place Slayer edited the Evox.ini file to look for games as well as F:/games
So you have a choice here find the PX001 file of the game you installed using the HDDLoader and copy the other games there or edit the Evox.ini file to also look in the folder where the games are located now. I recommend the EDIT method in your case. you can just add another path for it to look for games following the format of the menu as it is now.
Editing the Evox.ini file is easy with the use of FTP read the file from the Xbox save it as a backup then edit it to your likes and send it back to the Xbox, Reboot the Xbox to see the changes since EVOX only looks at the directory when booting or reset so your changes will not affect it till you reboot.

HAHA, what a name that would be, too funny! As far as downloading on broadband, that depends on some things:
1) What your download speed is: eg: 1.5mbps, 3mpbs, etc
2) For the Bit Torrent download, how many other people are seeding and downloading, ie: the more the faster your download will be, check here for info on the torrent: Slayer's Torrent
My suggestion to you is to set up the download overnight or a couple hours before you'd like to use it to be safe so when you are ready to use it you can burn to a disk, (Ritek DVD-R is my #1 choice for burning). Good luck and happy modding!

You burn the ISO by selecting burn IMAGE. it is the only thing written to the disk.
all the other files are referance files lables ect and are for PC use.
the ISO is a Quix made ISO and is not viewable with a PC iso tool like ultra ISO or win-rar

because you did not list the version of Xbox or DVD drive it has in it there may be a problem with the media compatability and your drive. missing or corrupt MSdash or Evox files after a rebuild is caused by in most cases the way the ISO was burned the DVD drive make, or even a dirty laser lense in the drive.
these problems are covered in the Documentation because this is not uncommon with 1.0 Xbox or any Thomson DVD drive xbox units.
read the doc's about burning the ISO and the media to use, CD-RW (NEW) is the most compatable if you cant burn a DVD-R which is the best media to use.

I just did this 3 days ago with a friend.We did it like 5 times before I went home.I told him to ftp into the xbox(the slayers disc will display your IP address) and see if the files were on it.They were and after going to the official evoX site and reading their guides we figured out what was wrong.
We needed to change the name of xboxdash.xbe to something else(anything at all) and change the evox xbe to xboxdash.xbe

The docs are encrypted so people can't tamper with them, and that requires Acrobat Reader 6 to read them. We had to do this for security reasons. If I would you I would go to a friend's house w/ something newer than 98 and print them out or view them there. I know you can get Acrobat 6 for 98SE, just not original 98, which do you have?

Current Bios on the Aladdin Advance 64 is Evox-M7, I have also had X2-4981 on there as well. I HAVE not tried X2-4977 as yet. Could you ftp in with the mod on and tell me what your msdash xbe file is named on the C partition? I suspect the retail bios is looking for the ms dash xbe and is not finding it, hence the Error 13, which is a dashboard error. If everthing appears to be intact and named correctly, I'd still try reinstalling the MS Dash on C one more time.

Its a 108mb self extracting winRAR file that extracts to a 215mb iso image that you burn to a CDRW or DVD-R. An "Instructions" document is included with the package which tells you exactly how to burn it, etc.

i got a new HD WD120gig.. i did this:

The questions you are asking are covered in the Doc's but i will address them here for you anyway.
As for not locking the HDD that is fine if you dont plan to use XBL, also you will not be able to boot the xbox with the mod off you will get an error 5 meaning the hdd is not locked and MS requires it to boot.
as for the Rebuild options F and C is the partition the evox will be installed on and the BIOS you run has to coraspond to that, meaning if you use F rebuild you need to use a F booting Bios, which are included in the CD but if you dont plan to use live there is no good reason to run it from F.
Also the rebuild installs everything all apps MS dash evox, avalaunch ect. there is no differance between F and C other then the 2 EVOX files are placed in F or C by the choice you make at install. if you have the F install on the drive now and you ran the C install you would be only adding the evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini to the C drive all other files will just be recopied to there same places.
As for the clock in the MS dash not showing the AM/PM for the time is either you are set to 24 hours clock or MS dash files are messed up try installing the MS dash again.

Use adobe Acrobar reader 6 not "5"
All should be fine it is a free update from Adobe use the help in adobe to check for update and it should update to 6 or go direct to www.adobe.com

I have an X2.3 Lite+, and I'm pretty sure it's a 1meg BIOS. And I know Slayers has the option to flash with 256k or 1meg BIOS. I've heard the 256k flash is for the old chips, and the Lites only have 2 banks; therefore, if I flashed with the 1meg, then it would take up both banks. I don't want to do that, because I would like to keep Cromwell on one bank. So is there an option to flash it in 512k form, so it won't take up both banks?
The reason I don't want to make my own BIOS disk, is because I don't want to download big-ass Nero just to make a BIOS disk ISO.

Any of the 256K or 1 meg files will overwrite the full 1 meg of your lite chips 1 meg flash memory. the reason is that Evox will auto up the 256K bios to 1 meg even though it starts out 256k, this is done when evox ID's the chip and its capacity of 1 meg and will convert the 256K to 1 meg 4*256K=1024K or 1 meg the only way is to use a custom bios with a 512K image of the bios you want and a 512K image of cromwell and flash the chip with that will give you bank 1 hacked bios and Bank 2 as cromwell.
you can use Nero, Recordnow, Roxio or even Quix to make and burn the bios disk and use X2 bios manager to make the bios you want to use. (X2BM)

The documentation explains that if you install evox on F: you MUST use an F: booting Bios meaning it looks for Evox in F before looking to C for evox or ms dash.
the choices are make a F: booting bios from the current bios releases or put evox on C, it is your choice.
to put evox on C: use the same method booting the Slayers CD and choose evox only on Large HDD C:
Then you don't need to monkey with the BIOS !

It is easy to get on DVD-R just follow the info on page one (1) of this thread to get the ISO and burn it to your favorite DVD brand disk. Now it don't get any easier then that now does it! Well I guess it could if someone handed you an already burned disk but the chance of that is pretty slim.

When you boot the Installer Evox will be loaded as the dash from the CD or DVD what ever you're using, this is not installed to the Xbox it is only loaded so you can use FTP client in evox to access the xbox to do your saves. all this info is in the doc's as well as how to get connected if you dont have an IP address in the evox menu when you boot the installer. Please read the doc's and i suggest you take the time to read it fullyas this will give you a full scope of the tools ability and the choices you have available to you.
the pictures in the doc's will also give you an insight as what you will be doing and what to expect.

The thing is no-one seems to know about the new xbox being incompatible with some bios versions because of this FOCUS decoder , I very much feel for those poor people who flashed their bios on their aladdin only to have it FRAG on Reboot.....i too was one of those poor people who wanted to install gentooX but was unable to with the M7ef bios fortunatley i had a whole bunch of these 2 dollar SST chips and it was no real hassle.....also a friend of mine did the same and was somehow able to re flash the SST on some old PC with a socketed Bios...not sure bout that one tho.
I was unable to read your PDF's slayer in the 2.5 release due to some encryption i believe.... but i just wondered if you include this info in the DOC files as this is the only place i have seen anything about FOCUS incompatability with Some Bios ver's....im not sure but maybe there IS a webpage containing a list of compatible FOCUS bios and i was'nt able to find it.

The manual ( I know you said you cannot read it ) states that the installer is for Xbox v1.0 - 1.5 only and so will the next version. Anyone using it on a version 1.6 will have problems. This is not something I can avoid, it simply takes common sense.
To read the manuals, you need Adobe PDF version 6.0!!!!
I had used PDF 6.0 when creating the manulas to try to make it harder for people to rip them and modify them but it seems to have backfired in that no one reads the included TEXT file that informs them they need to grab Adobe PDF Reader 6.0
The next version will use PDF 5.0 in the manual ( also, a single manual, not 2 )

Haha..yea I did all that, all it does is bring up a dos window and closes real quick. Its from Slayers channel so I dont think its a trojan or anything.

You could use either 4983.06 or M7. Its really a matter of personal preference...

The !help mirror link is aparrently corrupted we have just found out. Sometimes happens when you have volunteers trying to help that are outside our official team. We appreciated the effort and hopefully he will be able to correct the problem. For now though, the Installer is only available via Bit Torrent.

I've seen this question asked, but never saw a response...I've read through more than half these posts...still having a hard time...
So I figure I'll ask again.
I currently have a 1.0 XBox. I've been able to use my MechAssault Exploit to run/install Slayer's apps/etc. I have in my posession 2 different 40GB hard drives (yes I know they are pretty small, but it's all I have right now...). I have tried to use XBOXHDM v1.4 to format both of these drives. I have had great success using this program (XBOXHDM) to format/compile the drives to be used in the XBOX, but I have NEVER been able to correctly lock either of the drives. I either get Error 5 or 6. And YES I HAVE TRIED LOCKING/UNLOCKING SEVERAL TIMES.
I've gotten the EEPROM from EVOX (MechAssault Exploit) but I don't think it's giving me the correct key because when I try and unlock the stock drive, it doesn't work with the provided key.
Anyway, my question is once I get into Slayer's from my exploited box, can I hotswap my new drive in and use Slayer's tools to create/format/compile this new drive?
I have no modchip, nor will I have one any time soon. I can very easily flash the TSOP if that is what is causing me to not be able to use a new drive...but I was told that doesn't matter.
FYI: I Have downgraded my dash to the 4920 and am using kernal 4034 (I believe...pretty sure...big white sticker on stock drive - 4034 AND I've checked in settings - just can't remember right this minute).
Please...any help would be greatly appreciated...due to this being such a long thread, a PM would be awesome!, but please, if you have experienced this problem or have had this same question answered, please post here so that others may gain the knowledge as well.

You have to format F: first using the format menu, on a standard xbox drive the partition is hidden and has to be unlocked as it were.
My question: I just did an HDD swap and now when transferring saves and the like, i'm getting alot of FTP errors and alot of it isn't going through, is there any way of fixing this?
edit: Found out I was just using the wrong FTP client, WS_FTP pro doesn't work aswell as FlashFXP

Fist off since you dont have a mod chip and not getting one anytime soon your best bet would be to do the TSOP flash, YES I have done it many times during testing of the installer even though we dont recommend it. the reason I say you should is you have limited resources and it will solve many of your loading issues you currently are having. like the hdd lock and unlock the best tool for that is configure magic because it will change the master password to teamassembly so it can be unlock with out the xbox it came from even if you loose the HDD key.

really not much more to go into because you will be able to change hdd's and lock and unlock them once you flash the TSOP.
If you decide your not going to do that break it down into questions and i will do my best to get you through it, the HDD hotswap does work sometimes and is a matter of getting it right, for the xbox to see it and not lock up or time out. not the best way but it works.
If you can get the hotswap to work and can see the hdd in configure magic (included in the installer) exit it back to the evox dash and run the installer to rebuild the HDD for large HDD 1.X 4920 C: this will install MS dash all apps and the drive will be formaed to its full use. then return to configure magic and lock it.
you will be ready to do the exploit again to gain control if you get that far GOOD LUCK

If you read the included DOC's you will find your answer and even what HDD's of the Xbox support the extra 2 Gig. you did nothing wrong except failing to read. if you did the rebuild the F would have been formated if you did add apps it would not have been formated and you will have to format from the menu again read the doc's it is all there step by step.

NO slayer will not solve "YOUR" problem we will leave this to you. since I have no Idea what your settings are my first suggestion is to get your evox ini file from the Xbox you can FTP to and save it to the PC, then get the one from your new hdd up in system managment in EVOX and edit everything in the NETWORK section to match your old hdd that worked check every setting closely for any typo's. now scrool down to the bottom of the screen and select "SAVE AND EXIT" now reboot the Xbox and your settings will take affect and you should be able to FTP to your Xbox.

It just goes to show you that not everyone will get the same results from apps and programs, I have much better speeds with WS-Ftp then flash XP, and Cute FTP is just as bad but works better for my brother with his PC's go figure,
Well glad to hear all is working good now also turn off passive and see if that helps your speeds.

I am having a problem with my xbox that has evox installed. When I insert the slayers boot disc and try to ftp from the boot disc the static ip is no and it has a DNS with numbers. I extracted the Slayers disc to my laptop to change the Static ip to yes and give it an ip etc....
I burned an new disc with the .ini replaced with the one I edited. when I insert the new burned disc it does not boot to the new slayers disc but boots up to the old slayers and on the D: on the screen it says unknown but when I go into boxplorer to the D: drive all the files are on the DVD but the DVD will not boot from the start.

If you recreated the ISO with the edited evox.ini in the root directory and you burned the new ISO as you did the first one that booted to slayers then I would have to say one of 2 thing is taking place first the burned disk is not being read by the xbox DVD drive well enough to boot the xbox or the INI file you edited is corrupt and crashing the evox on the DVD, so it reverts to the one on the Xbox already.

With regards to upping the fan speed, this can be done by modding the bios.
If you modify your bios using a tool by nightshade called "xbtool" there is a feature in this tool that will allow you to increase the fan speeds in a percentage incremental amount.
This will up the fan speed as you wish

Oh and how long does it take to do the whole process of backing up to a dvd-r is it that much longer than just backing up to the hard disk, and do games really run that much faster when booting them from hard disk, also is it really hard to install a new hard drive and what is the largest and most recommended that I should get...

Go to http://www.teamavalaunch.com/
use xiso on your computer to back-up games while running avalaunch.
If you do not have a router, you will need a crossover cable.
HDD - is the way to go for a lazy ass like myself for I can change games without getting off the couch. It does run faster. Get at least a 120 gig HDD, whatever has the best price for the size.
Go to the xbox-scene tutorials for further explanation.

Con - No stealth. Applicable? Not that I am aware of.
Installing on F:
Pro - Maybe Stealth?
Con - Have to customize bios to default to F.
I can not think of anything else.. If you are formatting a clean HDD, why not try both and trash it a few times!

Thanx for the help. I just recieved the 120 maxtor I ordered a few days ago and am still waiting for my executer 2.3b lite. But, in preperation i've been doing research and downloading apps etc. And when I was reading the instructons for the slayer auto instaler ver 2.5 I was curious about instaling to F and the "retal/stealth mode". I was wondering what the purpose of doing it was and what u get out of it. I'll probably just take it safe and instal to C.

Keep an eye on this thread, when the release is ready it will be posted here in this thread where to get it along with much more new info about the slayer releases and support.
As well there will also be a new link in the forum for the new release, as for a date there is none at this time, many things can delay the release and the biggest is we all are volunteers on the project and sometime we cant spend the time it needs to meet a deadline, and because we will not make a release till we are satisfied with its contents and workability giving a release date would be useless and cause pressure we dont need to deal with.
I am sure you and all the others can respect that.

When its Not a new tool its an out of date clunky piece of dog poo, all the apps have been updated a few times over. The supposed "super tool" was released late last year so it is a blatent lie to be called "new".
Seems like this slayer dude wrote this script for a quick bit of glory then took to the hills. This is evident from the support "or lack of" that this wonder tool gets from him.
And if you go into the wonder poo tools irc support site and do a !seen slayer and laugh at the last time the guy put in some support for his pile of poo.
Why is it not supported properly, yes we know there is the usual ass wipes who want to tag on to his coat tails for a bit of glory "Im part of slayers team you know"
