Title: Is Evolution X Dashboard And Bios Legal?
Post by: chinmi on September 11, 2003, 07:59:00 AM
biggrin.gif because most mod-chip is came pre-flashed with the cromwell linux bios....
implanting a hacked m$ bios to the mod-chip and installing a dashboard or apps that use m$ XDK is illegal....  sad.gif

m$ XDK is copywrite code....i.e. it's illegal. same can be said about games. evox is a modified XDK so therefore u cannot possess that either.

blink.gif says who? MS  muhaha.gif ? Or is there actually a law preventing this? Because it seems to me that I paid my money for an item, so it rightfully belongs to me. If it's mine then I should be allowed to do with it as I please. I mean it's not like I'm going to hack into a bank with my modded xbox. Really, you buy a PC, you mod the hell out of it and that not illegal. why? uhh.gif

Strange arguement.

If you buy stolen goods, they still don't belong to you.
If you spend your money on illegal drugs, they are still illegal, to have sell, or use.

Certain modifications are illegal and some are not.(this should go unsaid)

Stealing copyrighted material is illegal.

Modchips allow you to use illegal code.  Like certain drug paraphenallia is illegal simply because there is only one use for it and that use is illegal.

Both the evolution-x dashboard, and all (but cromwell) bios' out there are illegal. They infringe on MS copywrite. Debate the "I bought it, it's mine, I"ll do what I want" crap all you like, it's very plain and simple. It's copywrite infringement. Not that I care, I pay for my games that I deem worthy of the $, I buy dvd's, I still buy my music, so if I wanna infringe on copywrite by using hacked ms code as a dashboard and bios, I will. But nonetheless, it *IS* illegal code.

u should just get the xbox, whack a chip in it aswell as a new hard drive and then tell them to go to xbox scene to dl the evox and they can do all the illegal software crap themselves, its not illegal to tell people where to get illegal stuff, its there choice then

You are sadly mistaken.  Do a little research on the case of MPAA vs. 2600.

From the ruling about LINKING to sites that hosted DeCSS (a program for circumventing DVD encryption):
QUOTE
The only distinction is that the entity extending to the user the option of downloading the program is the transferee site rather than defendants, a distinction without a difference.

So linking users to sites that do host the files is just as illegal as actually hosting them.
