Does the port on your computer detect that a network device is plugged in when you turn on his xbox?

if everything is exactly the same then it should work.  or the ethernet port on his xbox is broke.  or something is different...

in the settings, my ethernet mac adress has a bunch of numbers while my friends has 00.00.04.00.00..any ideas?
