Title: Boot Disc Trouble Help
Post by: JBNinja99 on August 09, 2003, 02:30:00 PM
i have evox v1.8.2812 on a dvd-r. it is set to the default .ini file. so there is no static ip. my pc network is setup as follows. cable modem into my hub. cable into my pc from hub, and cable from my hub to my xbox. well here is my problem. i cannot seem to get my xbox to pick up an ip address. my evox on the dvd-r will only boot once and a while (which is strange because all my backups work fine) and when it does the ip remains blank on the settings menu. i can't connect to my xbox!
i did have my evox as my dash, but for some reason i could not go to the msdash or load dvd movies so i put my msdash back on. but i need to do something that requires my evox dash and need help getting this to work!
please help. thanks in advance.

you can try posting your evox.ini and a list of files in your c drive.... it will give us an idea on what to do...

you most likely could not get to the MS dash because your HD is not locked, or you replaced the xboxdash.xbe instead of adding a evoxdash.xbe.
YOu will need to post the ini if you want some help.

now when you posted that i couldn't get to my ms dash because my hd is not locked, you are probably right. i often swap out eeprom's with configmagic and may have left my hd open.
in the meantime i went and burned a evox cd-rw. i haven't been able to get that to boot either. is it my burning options? data disc, DAO, UDF - up to 128 filename length, any char., plus 8+3 tree (Bridge) it's been a while since i burned a cdrw for my xbox and wasn't sure if this was correct.
also, when i am able again to ftp to my box...should i go ahead and put evoX back on? or should i try like MediaXMenu or neXgen?
thanks again.

Did you make sure that your files are in the xbox iso format?
Ya I think that you should put a new dash on your xbox if youve got a new HD.
Evox or MxM, I wouldn't go with nexgen.

The old Xiso's are know to be very buggy, but I think that you will be safe with the newest version.

i went and made an .iso image with XIso. included a 200mb '0dummy' file. it's on a memorex cd-rw, which has booted for me before. right now it's making no attempt to boot though. oh, and i burned at 4x.
also, like i posted earlier, i have evoX on a dvd-r which boots occasionally as well. however, it only displays an ip address maybe 1 out of 20 boots. any ideas?
should i use a different iso program to create the iso? burning methods in nero? please help.
thanks again.

when i'm loading a cdrw or dvdr i always listen to my drive. it always makes like a first 'scan', and then a second 'scan'. usually after the second scan you can hear it finding the default.xbe file and booting. when i load my dvdr it will do this occasionally. it will find the default.xbe after the second scan. with my cdrw's and when my dvdr doesn't boot it will do the two scans and then go to the 'this is not a xbox game/dvd/ect'.
is this normal? i just seem to always have trouble getting cdrw's to work. usually they will boot 1 out of 10. in maybe 30 or so tries i haven't gotten the cdrw to boot.
and still, any idea why when i boot to my evox dvdr why in the settings the line type will be blank and there is no ip? i know it's reading it because if i unplug the cable from my hub it will say no link. any ideas?

now when i'm making the iso...and i use craxtion...i keep getting this error when i open it.
ISOCraxtion: System Error &H8007007E (-2147024770). The specified module could not be found.
i downloaded it again and still get the same error. I dl'd the newest version, the fix, the runtimes, and the other files. why can't i get this to work?
and i read your tut mastertito. i'm gonna go over it again, but i'm pretty sure i'm burning it right. i'll get back to you though. thanks.

i'm at the point where i'm about to freak out. i do not know what is wrong with my xbox.
i created an iso from simplex iso, v1.8.3752 of evox with a dummy file and a static ip. i went to nero, burned image at 4x speed with dao and finalize. my box doesn't even seem to 'try' and recognize it.
i've also tried creating an iso with craxtion and with xiso. i've tried burning with prassi cd as well.
now here's a thing i was wondering about. when i made some multi-game dvdr's with my friend i remember burning them not as an iso, but as a data disc. and i remember burning games onto cdrw a long time ago. i don't remember if they were as an iso or data.
can i try burning a cdrw of evox as a data cd rather than an iso? and if so what settings should i use. i know i should use udf, but which udf? in prassi there are 2 options: udf - up to 128 filename length., any char, plus 8+3 Bridge. and udf with joilet - up to 106 in length, any char, plus joilet, plus 8+3 tree (Bridge).
and on a side note, what are the differences between the 2 udf's for future reference?
Thanks in advance. You guys have been a big help.

Try burning at 1x or 2x, it could help. When I got my copy of EvoX working I burned at 2x.
Good Luck

i tried about 15 more times, but to no avail. i want to try and burn at a lower speed like Ice Rich suggested, but in my nero, i am only offered 4x. why is that?
Title: Boot Disc Trouble Help
Post by: JBNinja99 on August 13, 2003, 03:03:00 PM
as an iso
2) should it be a multisession disc?
3) TAO or DAO
and here's the other question. i am only seemingly amble to only burn at 4x. why can i not burn at a lower speed?
please help me. thanks again!

I think that nero let you check the disk for its right speed capability.

so should it be a data disc with udf and force dvd, or as an image? and if a data disc, should it be as an extracted iso or as an iso?

If you are buring an iso you deffinently shouldn't extract it first.

what i'm asking is should i burn a data disc with the extracted iso? or should i burn an image with the iso.

I always burn an iso.

and do you have any idea how i could check my drive speed? i'm almost positive that i've burned at a lower speed than 4x before.

I'm pretty sure that nero has something called simulate burn that does a test burn and tells you how fast you can burn on that disk.
