So if you put music in there, you could play it with the msdash audio player, or use the songs for custom soundtracks?

You do not put music in there. M$ Dash does it when you rip Audio CDs or when you transfer using a tool like the Soundtrack Editor.

Incidentally, Media X Menu (MXM) uses this "global soundtrack" to playback music while you select your games from it's fully animated menus complete with video previews. It will soon provide another way to get music on there as well, in the form of an MP3 Transcoder and an enhancement to it's already amazingly better FTP Server that uses X: as a means to transfer MP3s and WMAs to that soundtrack in a user-friendly fashion.

For what reason? You can't just dump files in there.... there's a database that must be updated for other apps to "see" the new music.

M$ provides app developers an API to access the soundtrack and move files into it.

That sounds like the right file to me.

" For what reason? "

For me, I used the audio exploit, I can not copy music to the HDD w/o disabling the exploit.

There is no way the FTP music to the e:?

e:/TDAT/fffe0000/, thats where the music is, right?

Well, what you are thinking simply will not work.

The ST.DB holds the information that tells M$ Dashboard and apps that use the soundtracks that there's music there.

If ST.DB is not updated, you might as well upload GIFs of Barney and Teletubbies into the directory for all the good it will do for you. No applications will be able to see the music files.

This is why I dislike the "Audio Hack"

...and before you argue with me about the details, I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Not going to argue, not need to.

Can I edit the ST.DB file myself?

Just use soundtrack editor (here: http://dwl.xbox-scen...s/xboxst097.zip ) It will allow you to upload music, etc, much easier than manually eiditing files.

Thx for the App.  It closes when I try adding files tho. sad.gif

That's because it doesn't like the Audio Exploit hiding out in the file.

The whole trick of the audio exploit is to screw up the ST.DB file in a way that causes M$ dash to overflow a buffer. It does this by basically making the file invalid.

You cannot edit the file - it will either break the soundtrack editor (as you discovered) or the soundtrack editor would break the exploit.
