I'm having problems getting original games to load. It just boots back to the evox dash when I try. I know it has to be something in the ini because all of my other apps work, but I"ve no clue what it is? Any help would be appreciated. Here's my current ini.

question -

my evox works just fine right now, but i wanted to tweak the games folder so it has subcategories in it. like when you click on games...you'll be led to a bunch of genres...and when u cl.ick on genres...it lists the games within the genre.

is this possible?   if so, how do i go aobut doing it?

thanks in advance

hey there,

i spent hours lookin for basic evox commands. obviously there's no list of all available commands. could we try to put that list together?

this guide really is great work, especially the "special items" section is very interesting. basic commands like copy, rename, mkdir, delete, move etc. are missing tho.

id need commands like these an im wondering if they are possible in evox, or even other dashboards and how the correct syntax would look like.

it would be very cool if you guys could put them into the guide or tell me that there are no such commands at the moment.

thx a lot

IS there anyway to erase a specific folder from an evox menu item or action script?
Title: Complete Guide To Setting Up Evox.ini
Post by: markccalhoun on April 26, 2005, 02:17:00 PM
I'm a newbie and I am lost. I have spent days reading newbie forums, tutorials and watching videos about modding and I am very confused. Could someone please help me?

I bought an Xbox. I verified it's a version 1.6. I ordered an X3 modchip. I donloaded evox v.3935. I want to have all my dashboards and BIOS DVDs made befor I get the chip.

I'm pretty sure I got the BIOS disc burned correctly but this .ini editing is driving me crazy. I read the tutorial and went to get the new list of BIOS off this site. I am confused as to whether to copy the intire list of BIOS off the site and paste it in my .ini file or just copy the .ini intries for the x3 chip? Or, do I just copy someones .ini file the have posted here and use that?

This is what my .ini file looks like now after following the tut.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

QUOTE(armytage @ Jan 24 2005, 10:51 PM) *

hey there,

i spent hours lookin for basic evox commands. obviously there's no list of all available commands. could we try to put that list together?

this guide really is great work, especially the "special items" section is very interesting. basic commands like copy, rename, mkdir, delete, move etc. are missing tho.

id need commands like these an im wondering if they are possible in evox, or even other dashboards and how the correct syntax would look like.

it would be very cool if you guys could put them into the guide or tell me that there are no such commands at the moment.

thx a lot

well i too am looking for a complete guide on this too ...
ive found out that it does, copy and rename ...
but the crcuial one for me is, either delete and move .. with these then its complete !
(as ya can do mkdir, with copy and rename. As ive had too)

Mick ...

here is a partial list of the @ commands. this list was compiled by myself thru trial and error so it is bound to be flawed. dunno if it will be usefull to anyone. any clerification on 4,6 or 7 would be great, or the specifics of the three different reboot commands.

Title: Complete Guide To Setting Up Evox.ini
Post by: vidgms4me on July 18, 2003, 05:25:00 PM
I have set up a complete Evox.ini guide.  The most up-to-date version can be found here:
http://vidgms4me.tri..._ini_Guide.html

On the main xbox-scene tutorial page:
http://www.xbox-scen...es/evox-ini.php Finally up-to-date wink.gif

Updated Mirrors:
http://www.evolution..._ini_Guide.html <-- Thanks heinrich!  Up-To-Date
http://vidgms4me.net..._ini_Guide.html <-- Mirror by me.  Currently Up-to-date
http://hosted.vs9.or..._ini_Guide.html <-- Mirror by VS9. Up-To-Date

Mirrors that need to be updated:
http://members.shaw...._ini_setup.html <-- Mirror by 00XeRo.  NEEDS TO BE UPDATED!

I am currently not looking for mirrors, just for current mirrors to update.

Please keep any discussion about this in this thread, I will not respond to PMs/Emails about this, including mirror offers.

Please note that this is NOT a support thread, it is a thread for things relevant to the guide.  If you are having trouble with your INI, etc., start a new thread, please.

Version 3 released 14 December, 2003.

U sure this tut is for the 1.8.3752 version of evox and not the 1.8.3682 version. Because the I downloaded the Evox version 1.8.3682 and it matches the tut u have posted and in that tut it says on the top for evox version 3752.

thanx

I wrote this tutorial for the evox.ini iin version 3752.  It may be the same as previous versions, but trust me, I wrote this for the newest version, 3752, and this may or may not apply to other versions.

what drive should i place all my programs?

If you have a large hard drive, use F:\, and if you have the original hard drive, put them in E:\.

Then setup the menu to autoadd as described.

The content of the tutorial is ok, however your formatting is very difficult on the eyes.  You should try using colored bands to show your explanations.

This is probably due to the fact that I wrote this in vi :\.  I'll try formatting it a bit more.  I find it difficult to read myself.  What exactly is hard to see?  Is it difficult to distinguish between the ini and my explanations/the different sections/etc?  I'm trying to improve this to the best of my ability.  Just help me out here smile.gif !

got some info for you to add....i think

[Clock]

JumpToMsDash    = No

Information Pending (does evox get the time from the msdash instead of a timeserver)

JumpIfNoLink    = Yes

Information Pending (does it automatically go if no cable is plugged in, since it cant use the timeserver)

Use24        = Yes

If set to Yes, the 24 hour time format is used.  When set to No, it uses the 12 hour time format.

SwapDate    = No

Information Pending (does it switch the month and day in the date display, in the european style, ex 13/8)

EDIT i was wondering if there is a way to eject the dvd-rom from the evox menu)

Just a little something to add......

In the [MENU] section there is also a....

Line "Some Text Here", #

This creates a line in the menu, that you cannot select, and a color of your choice

Line "Some Text Here" = default text color color for that skin
Line "Some Text Here",1 = Red
Line "Some Text Here",2 = Green
I tried 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 10 11, but all showed up as the skins standard text color

Okay, thanks everyone.  I'll be updating this guide soon, and contacting those who have mirrored it.  I'm still working to get the guide 100% complete however, before I release a new version.  I'm looking into user-defined actions, so expect that to be added soon.

I forgot to mention that I made backup copy of evox.ini file, which I copied back to Xbox c:, but evox still had menu problems.

Thanks for the tutorial.. quick question.. why do some people have something like

Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash

While others have something like :

Item "MS Dashboard",@3

What does the @3 do?  Mine is setup like the second one.

Also.. I have a file called "items.txt" in my evox root directory.  is that suppose to be linked the the evox.ini file somehow?
Title: Complete Guide To Setting Up Evox.ini

ylsf: the @ commands were just the old way of doing it.  They do still work in the newest release (1.8.3752)

ID_Flash_Bios or @1 = Flash the BIOS
ID_MS_Dash or @3 = Launch the Original Dashboard
ID_Quick_Reboot or @5 = Reboot Xbox
ID_Settings or @9 = Go to the EvoX Dashboard Settings
ID_Power_Off or @10 = Turn the Power Off
ID_Backup or @11 = Backup the settings to C:Backup on the Xbox
ID_Skins or @13 = Skins
ID_Launch_DVD or @14 = Launch disc in dvdrom tray
@2 = Custom User Actions as in @210 to do action 10

And as for halfdane40, and anyone else with problems with evox, its best to start a new thread, and fill up this one with everyones personal problems. wink.gif

I have eject and load from XBE's found on #xbins in the utilities section. I guess there is no way to eject with evox so these were made?

Are there deeper commands you can use other than copy and format? What about rename, delete etc? Anyone know the syntax for other such commands?

The more I read about this stuff the more lost I seem to get.  I'm totally new to xbox modding and would like a little bit of help.
I have the x2.2 Lite plus mod chip, that I will be installing and I will be putting in a 120 gig harddrive.  However teh evox.ini stuff has me totally lost.  I've read the tutorials, but they seem to have me looking at 3 other pages at the same time, its just confusing.

I really want to be able to backup games on the harddrive, and to be able to play them without the discs.  Can anyone tell me what should be in the .ini file to serve that purpose, assuming I use the current newest version out? Or are the default settings enough to backup my old stuff and install the new harddrive?

can email me at [email protected]
thanks a ton.

Those can be put in action scripts, which vidgms4me is working on a guide for that.

I was suposed to be working on some of the new stuff for evox 3921, but got busy, so I'm just starting now.  tongue.gif

CODE
[Misc]
UseGDrive = Yes #enables G drive in ftp, able to add menu items that point to G, format G, etc
EnableSMART = Yes #enable S.M.A.R.T readings from hard drive
HDD_Temp_ID = 194 # Attribute number for temperature (should be 194 for most (if not all) drives
DebugTSR = No (More to come)
ChameleonLed = 15 #0=Off 1=On 2-100 Blink
GameRegion = 0 (More to come)

ALSO-
We all know about
CODE
Item "Reboot",ID_Quick_Reboot

A little known command is -
CODE
Item "Cold Reboot",ID_Full_Reboot

Also known as 'Power Cycle', the xbox will do a hard reboot, showing the animation and all.

I'll post some more in the next few days  wink.gif

btw - I suggested to team evox that they have a ID_Tray _Open and ID_Tray_Close, and gave them the code to add it, its certainly not hard to do.  Only time will tell if they add it or not.  wink.gif

Does anyone have a complete list of all known flash lines for evox.ini?

perhaps someone could pin the list?

in particular for the following clone chip:

Click the "What Bios do I have" in my sig.  The 'known' flash lines are there.  I have never seen that chip used in a modchip, but I would start a new thread if you cant find it.

Another "known" command for evox.ini is the ID_No_D_Mount command.  This can be used if you have a "trained" or "cracked" default.xbe for a game, but still want to play the game off the dvd.  An example here would be if you have a trained brute force default.xbe, but because of the large size, dont want the entire game on the hard drive, you coudl just do:
CODE
Item "Trained Brute Force","e:\trainers\brute force\default.xbe",ID_No_D_Mount

this would then lauch "e:\trainers\brute force\default.xbe" but wouldnt mount "e:\trainers\brute force" as the D drive, and as such, the rest of the game will play off the dvd.
Very handy for large games.

Another thing that is often asked is why there are 3 settings for IGR in evox.ini.  This is from the 1.8.3285 release notes:
QUOTE
EvolutionX new features:
In Game Reset:
We bring you In Game Reset with the RemoteX dashboard (no need to upgrade your bios for this function)
IGR is availale in 3 modes (Select from Settings Menu):
FTP IGR -> When you launch from FTP Client e.g. execute f:mamedeafult.xbe
RDTools IGR -> When you launch from VC++
MISC IGR -> IGR when launching normally
If you want IGR in original games you have to use the Launch DVD function from RemoteX or enable Auto Launch Game and insert the DVD when you are in RemoteX dashboard.

(RemoteX is what the dash was called at that time)

Also, I think this was said, but, the "Swap Date" option swaps the date from the 'normal' dd/mm/yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy.

Also, some other things to know...
The ftpd allows 4 users at a time (no way to change this number)
8 Memory Cards supported - Maps to H: I: J: K: L: M: N: O:

Some things for the user scripts:
Copy command (copy "\dash.xbe" "C:\xboxdash.xbe")
Rename command (rename "C:\xboxdash.xbe" "C:\msxboxdash.xbe")

fyi, this is how those "installer apps" are done.

Also.... if you have the chip, you should have read the manual, but the evox.ini entries for the chameleon can be found here

You can also find the current list of known Bios hash's and flash lines here

Not very soon...

Evox's scripting is VERY limited, and the ability to Lock/Unlock hard drives is included in the stock INI - just commented out.  I don't think I need a guide on how to uncommment something (and I put that in there anyway).

MXM has a very good scripting language, and evox's is very limited.  I don't feel that I will be writing a guide until it does something more.  (No offense, just I don't think that those that need to write scripts can't figure it out by example [slayers and other installers]).

Someone asked about this the other day....

ID_SwapStick
   - Swaps Movement and Button Press

ID_SwapStick_Move
   - Swaps only Movement

ID_SwapStick_Press
   - Swaps only Button Press

Example of how to use it:

Item "Halo","f:\games\default.xbe",ID_SwapStick

I haven't played around with these, you will most likely have to have TSR_TYPE = 1 and you might have to have IGR on.

-------------------------------------

Commandline parameters option:

SYNTAX:
Item "NAME","PATH",ID_CMD,"PARAMETER"

Example:
Item "Bubble Bobble","e:\Mame\mame.xbe",ID_CMD,"\roms\bubble.rom"

New update.  Added h3inrich's info, and reformatted the whole thing.  Should be much easier to read and/or navigate.

Mirrors please update.
