Title: NEW! Slayer's EvoX Auto-Installer V2.1 !
Post by: 1wolf1 on April 22, 2003, 10:22:00 PM
beerchug.gif>>>> NEW! SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v2.1 <<<<<beerchug.gif

===================
09/11/03 - NEWSFLASH:
I sincerely hope everyone is watching the memorial and wishes terrorism was fiction not reality.  God Bless America!
I kinda wish my installer was a terrorism fighting tool  wink.gif   Anyway, I might consider releasing an updated version once the dust settles with >137GB HD's and possibly a newer dash.  The M$ Dash hacks are still too young for noobs and lack the awessome auto update functionality of EvoX so I doubt I will include those unless they mature. No promises or timelines. If anyone wishes to help, and you are good at this, PM me!

===================
08/12/03 - NEWSFLASH:
Saying it's ok to build on my installer is one thing, but ripping off my name and using it as your own?  What the hell is this?
I did not or will EVER approve the use of the name of a tried-and-true product for something someone hacked or built, without me working with them on it, regardless of what it claims to do.
Since I cannot perform quality control you all know I would never endorse that!

Please remember that unless it's posted by me, IT'S a FAKE and a FRAUD!

msn25, shame on you!
===================
08/08/03 - NEWSFLASH:
Please guys, no more "when is the next one out" emails!!!

Unfortunately, the installer is not paying my mortgage and therefore I need to spend time on more relaistic projects.  But as both SS113 and myself have said on many occasions, the installer is a stepping stone, not a solution on a platter.  Just take it apart and learn for yourself.

Several people already asked me if they can build on top of it and make their own installer based on mine, and release it.  I agreed it's a great idea, as long as they are nice enought to give credit for what they based on my work, just like I always gave credit for everyone else's tools.

Anyway, if, and I stress, if there is a new version you'll learn about it in this "news flash" section.

Now go out here, get the latest utils, bioses and apps, and have some learning fun.  When you get bored of that fun, play a game or 2 laugh.gif
===================
06/24/03 - NEWSFLASH:
I am sorry to announce that while I will still try to support the installer by answering posts to this thread and on IRC (when I am there) I have paused working on any new version of the installer.  My time has been precious lately.  There could be a newer version in the future, maybe after NexGen Dash is out, but do not hold your breath.

However, if anyone has lots of time and wants to continue development, support and improve the installer, or maybe even collaborate with me on a new version, feel free to contact me!

===================
06/15/03 - NEWSFLASH:
Sorry I have been absent lately, I am working on a few time consuming projects that require all my attention.  There are a few updates out there for the XBMP and a bios but I am sure you all are capable of updating your xbox on your own now that SlaYer's showed you the way  cool.gif
BTW, has anyone looked at the poll? I love the "I could do better (and can prove it) [ 16 ]   [4.24%]"  Hmmm... I do not see 16 different installers out there, do you?  laugh.gif
Thanks again to everyone helping to support the installer in the forum and IRC channel!
===================
04/27/03 - NEWSFLASH:
In order to make the new installer work will all xboxes as well as support the latest features from all the new BIOSes and EvoX, you CANNOT simply install on top of an Xbox built from the old installer v2.0  You should backup your E: and F: data via FTP and "REBUID" the HD from scratch! This could not be avoided as the new Bioses support different names for the M$ Dash.
===================
04/24/03 - NEWSFLASH:
The new installer was finally released last night and I have verified it has made it to the usual places.  The IRC channel reports ALL ready! Thank you for your patience and enjoy!

Please be aware that I will NOT be releasing a new installer as soon as a new version of one of the Apps comes out, so DO NOT ASK! Learn to update Apps on your own while using the installer as a guide!

===================
04/23/03 - NEWSFLASH:
A note to anyone updating only XBMP (menu option 5) from the old installer to the new one.  You must do 2 things:  FTP into your xbox and delete the XBPlayer folder under E:Apps  or F:Apps (depending on HD type) THEN change your evox.ini so the Media Player is run from the "XBMP" folder, not "XBPlayer"  (Basically change any instance of "XBPlayer" with "XBMP")
===================

With the continued assistance of CoRPSe, Moosta, SS113, Flyingscotsman and countless others, our IRC channel has been the best place to go for support and to obtain the latest version.  Please do not abuse it by asking questions already covered in this forum and behave properly.  Remeber, there is a "SEARCH" option  in this forum laugh.gif

PLEASE REMEBER TO READ THIS POST IN IT'S ENTIRETY AND THE NEWS FLASHES AS WE WILL NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS ALREADY COVERED HERE!

On Newsgroups, it will go up in YENC format so make sure your newsreader supports YENC!

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF ANYONE MESSES UP THEIR XBOX, SO DO NOT USE THIS TOOL IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT DOES!

NOTE: The purpose of the forum is to discuss the toolkit, not hand it to users on a platter. If people are not capable of finding it on their own, after all this information and links, then they should not be using it as it will probably destroy their xbox and they will be back here 10 minutes later crying and saying they "forgot" to make a backup and are now begging for help!

Feel free to modify the installer and make your own but please give credit if you reuse my work or build on top of it!

Well all that said, please help your fellow users, post your comments/feedbacks, and enjoy this new version in good health!

1wolf1 - Thanks man look forward to using it to set up a buddies box.  I'm always amazed at the amount of haters out there.  I would hate to see how many more noobie questions there would be without you.  Thanks to your tool v1.something I was able to actually play games about an hour after installing a hard-drive and modchip, instead of taking hours for a new install.  For me, thats why I have an xbox in the first place.

Okay, I had that coming.  I just figured that since so many people use similiar setups that it would come with something standard configured (192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.3).

Actually according to estimates from the previous version, 60% of the users connect to the XBOX directly with a cable and the rest have the most popular router, the LinkSys, which supports DHCP.

The installer is setup to use DHCP first, and if not available to default to a 192.168.1.200 IP with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and Gateway 192.168.1.1

1)  If you connect to a PC directly, just make sure your PC IP is 192.168.1.X (but X cannot be 200 )

2)  If you use a LinkSys Router, make sure DHCP is enabled.

Easy as pie!  There is nothing I can do to make this simpler!

How and why would i backup the EEProm?

First you need to be able to FTP to the Xbox!  Make sure that works!

Then either select the "Save BIOS / EEPROM" option after you boot the installer
or
Launch ConfigMagic and have it back up the eeprom.

Either way is OK.

Then FTP in and grab the files created in "C:backup" or "E:" respectively.

NOTE TO ALL READERS: Please do not ask me how to FTP in or how to use ConfigMagic, this has already been covered 100 times in the forum.

cool.gif That's right....  The most complete and up-to-date installer....

Great for all experience levels...  Most (70%) of u seem to enjoy it....  I know I do...  I am to lazy to upgrade every little prog that comes out...  So, It's perfect for me...  Seems all of us that enjoyed ver. 2.0 already like the unreleased 2.1 since we've been waiting to upgrade our xbox's with just a few clicks.....

I've seen so many suppoused updated(crappy not much updated) rip's from Slay's Installer 2.0 versions that are not worth the MB's they take up getting them....

Can't wait... and with the IRC Channel...  there shouldn't be to many of u begging for it....  Download on demand on IRC..    cool.gif

(Always Backup everything to make sure u can get it fix if u mess things up...  including u'r eeprom...  Which is very easy to do thru evox...  just make a backup and save it on u'r PC...  A must for those that mess with Live or that like to mess around with u'r XBox's...   U never know...  U might have a bad install...  Very easy to do...  Option 2) Save BIOS / EEPROM (XBOX C:backup) on the installer)

I have yet to use slayers (modchip in the mail), but when i put the disc in, it just boots to evoX, correct? If it does not how will i be able to ftp to my xbox and save all my files and backuped eeprom to my PC harddrivebefore i install. Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

The installer does boot to an EvoX dash with the installer menu. At this point you can FTP to and from the Xbox as long as your network is configured properly. The BOOT to EvoX dash is just that it will install nothing untill you request it to by selecting an option. all of this including the backing up to the PC and what to backup is included in the instructions. The instructions are part of the download.

As for will it delete any of your files NO if you chose to ADD EvoX and APPS to the HDD, If you use the REBUILD option then yes the HDD will be formated before the install and all data will be lost including saved games and music or any other data on the Xbox HDD.

Read the docs well and be sure you understand them before you use the tool it is strait forward and simple if you read and follow the direction.

it's a self-extracting rar file which is an .exe  biggrin.gif

I know what a self-extracting file is, but looking at the way I worded it, I would think I didn't also. biggrin.gif  I should have read were he said it was self extracting too.
I guess I'm just wondering if that exe is legit, cause he said he would let us know when it was released and normally my news server takes a while before stuff shows up.

the easiest way to get it is off the SlaYerS IRC channel.

just type in:
/server irc.burghcom.com
then:
/join #slayers
and when you're in just follow the instructions that the bot gives you

Go get it guys.... wink.gif

It was simultaneously released on the News Servers... How do I know that....  Can't tell u.... rotfl.gif

P.S.  Depending on the program u use to download files from the News Groups u might end u getting the main file to end in .zl9 not sure why it does this with NewsBin Pro... Might be some settings issue or not...  All u have to do is change the .zl9 to .exe and u'r set...  If that sounds to complicated for u...  GO to the IRC channel...  No need to rename anything from there... cool.gif

PLUTO 3.14 and SS113 are both ABSOLUTELY correct! The release is out and both of them have been instrumental in making this happen, so please take them at their word.  beerchug.gif

I just wanted to make sure the release actually made it to the "usual places" BEFORE changing the newsflash, just to be sure.  In 2.0 I noted the release too early and had 20 posts asking where it was laugh.gif

Remember to check the NewsFlash section of the first page for important messages BEFORE posting!

Enjoy Folks!

So freaking true...  But remeber, even good release can accidently have viruses...  Always check for viruses or have u'r Virus Scanner on Auto for anything u open...

I hope NexGen is out by the next Installer...  Not sure how u'll end up putting all those new things in there.. LOL

1wolf1, is the original msdashboard already patched for multiregion???
Because in the 2.0 version it was not patched, off course you can use the region X program but you loose the ability to use the remote control...

Thanks a lot for the best tool ever for XBOX!!!!  I really appreciate your work

Oscar from Lima, Peru

No it is not! I cannot possibly account for every variable without making the installer 2GB in size and working on it for months.  Plus I have no way to test it on all international versions of the xbox.  If you need that fuinctionality, just apply it.

Please remember that the installer is not the end to all, but a stepping stone to get you all familiar with the xbox and the apps and how everything works.  What you do to your xbox and your particular scenario is your business.

Also, I will NOT be releasing a new version as soon as a new cversion of one of the apps comes out so DO NOT ASK!   Update that App on your own!

So 1wolf1 does this mean you won't be releasing a new version of Slayers with each new build of XBMP?  biggrin.gif

lets not continue this crap about a virus, if your not smart enough to run a virus scanner then so be it.

As for a new release of the installer i would not expect to see another for some time. if there is newer versions of the Evox dashboard or XBMP there "MAY" be updates on the IRC but that will probably be the extent of it for some time to come.
Even if the installer has outdated dash or XBMP it is still very usefull in getting a xbox up and running to the point where you can very easy from that point update the apps yourself. this is not the end all tool it is the beginning of life with a modded xbox.

I will try to make the updates as complete as possable when they are added to the IRC in regards to compatability to a slayers install.
Meanning it should be a copy and use install if at all possable.

Enjoy the 2.1 and the Xbox

Oh yeah, I think there should be a format/rebuild C: only option. I screwed up my dash a couple of months ago and didn't want to lose everything on E: and F:. I had to extract everything from the ISO, open the .ini file and comment out anything relating to E: or F: then remake the ISO and reburn, so obvoiusly it would be a lot easier to just stick it in the menu.

You should've just FTPed the C contents back to your unit. You didn't have to comment everything out.

Well as i see it, The installer did it's job the best it could. It set up your Xbox and then you crashed it. but you were able to go in and mod the installer to replace only what you wanted replaced remake the ISO and reburn it. then scared as hell if it was gonna work you ran your creatition and sure as hell got your xbox back up and running.
Now that is what I call a success storie!!!!!!!!!!!!
We layed the gorund work and you built on that, good job and well done. You see if we had included that you would not have learned how to do it yourself now would have you!

Thanks and glad you like it.

In installer 2.1 there is no option to select pre or post live it is based on a live dash
2.0 was based on a NON live dash and needed to be patched after a live was installed

3. Runs on and installs the Latest EvoX Dashboard 1.8.3752 with temperature meter!
4. Latest XboxMediaPlayer v2.3 CVS 4-14-03 (XBMP) with ShoutCast Streaming support.
5. Includes latest BIOS’s-EvoX and Xecuter2 (D.6ef and 4976.02)-in both 256K & 1MB for mod flashing. No Excuses for not having the latest BIOS!

I still suggest you install your xbox yourself (so you know how it all works and how to install/uninstall new stuff), but if you really are too lazy ... this is the best installation script you will find!

I always extract every ISO and re-code it if I am not sure if its been made for the xbox file format.

just picked one of then new limted edition green xbox's - seems to be made in feb 2003 or 2003-02-xx - can't remember the exact date but am thinking - hmmm wonder if this box is a PAL ver 1.2 board ????

also - shame I didn't catch this post earlier - just flashed a couple of ver 1.0 tsop bios with 4796.02 bios - very nice indeedy

seems like Slayer 2.1 could have done it all for me - oh well never mind

Excuse me if this is wrong forum bit but thought that maybe the newer ver 1.2 limited edition info on both the hardware and kernals etc would be of some use.....

Right Green spec edition xbox with 2 green controller S pads
(better be in the box - still not checked the other bits yet)

anyway.....

here's the system info of the xbox:

K: 1.00.5101.01
D: 1.00.4920.01

dunno if slayer's 2.1 covers this one just yet but thought i'd let ya know

date 2003-02-17 - still peels away ok with hairdryer

also got a shiny like a mirror sticker on the other centre screw hole - like a security sticker - falls to bits when ya try and peel away - forget it use a small sharp scalpel and cut round the hole and screw instead - yeah looks a little unprofessional but better than stick in bits half still left on bottom of case.....

YUP - ver 1.2 is now in UK well my green one is and think someone else has the black controller S pad box with a 1.2 board in....
ATX power supply & philips not samsung dvd in there, also the quieter white 10.2gb seagate instead of the earlier black jacket 10.0gb seagate.

threw in a cheapermod - was waiting for cheapmod with 4796.02 but this one will do for the moment....
used Alternative D0-ground point underneath btw

yup fires up fine but philips is no way as good as samsung dvd drive.
(hmm maybe the last lot of normal pads would be a better option rather than the controller S boxes if we may not get samsung's no more)

for the moment I found it also didn't like some cheap brands of dvd-r - a little hesitant

ok most seem ok but just a few cheapy dvd-r's it was a little slow on booting/loading....

out comes the h/d and in goes another seagate 10.2gb - unlocked - yup boots to the evolution dashboard already installed on it.
loads up xbmp 2.3 - in goes a divx on cdr - nah it don't like it

now the same disc was running fine on my other ver 1.1 / samsung / xecuter 2 lite etc.....

hmmm - maybe swap a dvd-drive over maybe and install a 80gb - i know it's around here somewhere - lol

ATM the original h/d - that had xbox LIVE installed on it btw is untouched in case anyone may need ms dash etc off it

sorry if this in the wrong place but some of the kernel bit may be of some use etc....

anyway just letting peeps know that my green one has a so-so philips dvd in it - wonder what other uk ver 1.2's have got in them

All The Best

Sorry there is a problem but it can be fixed.

ss113

What I did was put the new installer on over the old one.  but now when I turn my modchip off it should boot to the regular msdash but it doesn't it gives me an error code 5.  The old installer had the option to patch post xbox live but the new one doesn't.  So how can I make my xbox boot to msdash with modchip off so I can get on XBOX live.

I am sorry but error 5 as you have reported is not the installer causing this problem it is because the HDD is not locked
5 - kernel - HDD not locked (retail bioses require the hd to be locked)
There could be 2 reasons the dash is failing to load if the problem is not error 5

if the dash worked with the chip off before the 2.1 install  check if the ms dash in evox works if so copy msxboxdash.xbe to xboxdash.xbe to correct this or use the installer ver 2.0 disk and select PRE XBOX LIVE  this will do the same thing.

or if the MS dash was not working in retail boot or was never checked and does not work now do this
using FTP get the evox.ini off the C: of the xbox edit the paths that I list below and send it back to the C: of the Xbox

#AudioPlayer   = "c:xboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard   = "c:xboxdash.xbe"
this will then use the xboxdash.xbe instead of the msxboxdash.xbe your 2.0 version used.

Why is this edit needed well because of trying to meet the standards the Apps have been using in the latest releases we felt it was in everyone intrest to join the current standards for file name in use. this will help future apps compatability with less if any issues. Sorry if this is a problem for you but there is no way to meet everyones needs.

Hope this helps you with your problem but the installer has nothing to do with unlocking the HDD this had to be done by you using configure magis or some other means or was never locked before the installer was used.

Umm whats this about a Multibios? i have an X-ecutor V.1 in a V.1 Xbox and ure slayers v.2.0 worked fine, wots the multibios stuff about. Please Help

Exactly the point, V2.0 worked fine with the old chips and bioses.  However the new MultiVersion BIOSes (EvoX D.6 and X2 4972 and newer) will first look for "evoxdash.xbe" as the EvoX dash and then for "xboxdash.xbe" as the M$ dash.

In the old EvoX Dash version the M$ dash was called "msxboxdash.xbe" because that's what EvoX and the old bioses expected, and we had to do some rename tricks and rename "evoxdash.xbe" to "xboxdash.xbe" in order to have EvoX launched first by default.

In the new versions of the EvoX Dash that "bug" was corrected and the filenames have gone back to their original names and priority on boot has been given to "evoxdash.xbe" followed by "xboxdash.xbe" the M$ default for their Dash.

All the old "evox.ini" files still reference "msxboxdash.xbe" instead of "xboxdash.xbe" for the M$ Dash, and that is what is causing the problem!

I cannot explain this any simpler and if you still do not understand you really need to research how the EvoX Dash and the new Bioses work!

Needless to say, you cannot smoothly upgrade EvoX from the Slayer's v2.0 to Slayer's V2.1 without manually editing your "evox.ini" file and replacing all references for "msxboxdash.xbe" with "xboxdash.xbe" after upgrading to v2.1

Since the Installer is based on EvoX these changes were dictated by the EvoX dash and the new BIOSes and not by me!

Honestly, and not to insult you, but if you are not capable of getting it yourself when all the information is clearly provided and explained in detail on the first page, I really think you should NOT use the installer in the first place.  You will ruin your xbox and end up back here crying.

I was perfectly clear about NO DIRECT LINKS OR HAVING IT EMAILED TO ANYONE!

mIRC is simple and so are newsgroups.  Read everything carefully and you'll be able to find it.  Once you do get it MAKE SURE TO READ THE INCLUDED DOCUMENTATION BEFORE USING!

Lastly, and if you do run into any problems, READ this thread as someone has more than likely already asked the question and received an answer!

I dunno what I'm not getting, but when I try to conect to the IRC server where Slaver's EvoX installer is I get an error because I need to setup identd.  Anyone know what I am doing wrong?  Can someone help me out or send me to the right place?
Thanks,

heres what I did, since the whole laziness factor seems to be discouraged, that and the cdrws I bought wouldnt work  laugh.gif

I downloaded the slayers evox 2.1 and extracted everything using xdfsextract to a folder called "slayers" on my pcs hard drive, I used the 1024k Executer BIOS to flash mine, then edited the BIOS selection out of the evox.ini, I also dumped all the skins onto my box from the slayers disc as well. Id like to actually know whats the best way to upgrade just evox via ftp, so if someone has a link to a post, the search didnt bring many results. I updated my media player a few weeks back already so no need to do that.

If for nothing else because it "encourages laziness" this tool rules because its a package of the latest stuff, rather than searching for everything separately. Good work!  beerchug.gif

Cylic Redundancy Check errors usually mean the data is shitty, and somewhere in the extraction process it craps out, try the repair option with winrar, if that doesnt work, try reinstalling winrar, if that doesnt work, try redownloading the installer.

YES THAT IS CORRECT it wasn't modded when i posted that

but in case anyone need any of the old h/d files/folders I was just reporting what the info said before I modded it and redid the h/d

ATM - I still the original 10gb untouched - using another 10gb seagate unlocked in there.....

If nothing is needed by wolf or any of the other peeps I will just install with Slayer, leave it locked and maybe fit a switch for LIVE

installed slayer 2.1 on a couple of ver 1.0's and all gone well indeedy - well impressed

One or two things - not complaints - no way this baby rocks

Is it me or is this newer dash a little "jerky" when scolling through the options etc... - sure the older dash 1.8.3285 was smooth as silk scrolling. Probably the dash itself and nowt to do with Slayer what so ever
The other minor thing - didn't like the Linux folder bit or the Emulators - now I gotta edit that bit ......

JUST KIDDING - jeez all the latest stuff/apps/pukka ms dashboard/latest bios flash all for nowt

MASSIVE EXTRA LARGE FANX 1,000,000 - my xbox just got even better this weekend

cheers again

Well I need to say that this is SWEET.  Great job Slayer!
Now I have a question which I think I got the answer out of some previous comments.  However I will explicitely ask.
If you want to upgrade the HD <ie:to a wd 120 GB hd> AND you want to be able to use live some time in the future.  Can you just use the prep tools in the slayer v2.1 installer?  Im unclear as to wether it is doing the locking/unlocking and setting the password scheme that xbox wants.  Im pretty sure that this needs to be done still using your home pc and a dos boot disk but just wanted to clear it up in case anyone else was in doubts.

Thanks

The installer can do ALL of it.  Just backup your E: from your retail HD just in case you have saved games.

Install new Large HD and do a "REBUILD LARGE"

Then launch ConfigMagic Final (Thanks again Team Assembly  love.gif  ) and lock the HD.

Thern if you then disable the mod and power on, the M$ dash with LIVE already installed comes on.  You're good to go!

BUG, what bug?

The Installer DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY EMULATORS!!!!!

There is only a Menu option and an empty folder.  The docs tell you clearly that if you want emulators, to copy them yourself via FTP!

Why doesn't anyone READ?

Check the names of the emulators.
Maybe you will have to rename the files so you can transfer it.

Thanks to slayer for making the installer, DL for the bios flash feature.
Im still happy with my 2.0 version, where i manually update all i need.

i have put plenty of emulators in the folder for emulators on the new slayer's 2.1, and they all work just fine, just ftp over and drag and drop.  Its so easy, just try it out and you'll figure it out.  I mean geez, slayer's already done almost all the work for us, somewhere along the line, we need to learn this stuff on our own.  biggrin.gif

got a v1 xbox with enigmah, got bored so decided to install slayers 2.1

everything went fine, games, dvd movies work fine, but when i go to ms dash via the menu on slayers, it says "loading" then comes back to the slayers menu.

on the left hand screen i get "M/B: INV Error!" and on the right hand side i get "CPU: ENV error!"

i can access the msdash through boxplorer, but not via the MS Dashboard option in system management.

anyone have any idea's?

cheers!

Edit your evox.ini on the C;: of the Xbox to have the filename you used to access the MS dash via boxplorer, this would be where it says MSDashboard, about 6 down from the top of the file.
then reboot after it is saved to the xbox and your ms dash will work

I just got done telling you to read the installer docs online in the mIRC channel, and here i am again saying it again.
READ the DOCs I spent alot of time prepairing them for anyone to understand. every step to protect your retail drive to using a hdd from a PC is covered READ the DAMN DOCS.
If you can not make sense of the docs because of not knowing the English language then check in the ,mIRC with your questions about what you do not under stand and someone if not myself will explain it to you if we can.

There is no reason for me to hold your hand anymore then I have in the DOCs. If you cant set up your xbox with the DOCs provided then maybe it is something you should have someone else do for you.

Title: NEW! Slayer's EvoX Auto-Installer V2.1 !
Post by: SS113 on May 03, 2003, 02:18:00 PM
QUOTE (catch21 @ May 3 2003, 01:28 PM)
Thank you for the installer.  Quick question tho, Using your great 2.1 installer iso how do I replace x2  4976.02 with  a noani colored 4796.02. In your iso i tried adding the colored on to the "bios" folder  but the installer  didnt not read it. I have a matrix. Thanks

You would have to edit the EvoX.ini in the root directory to reflect the file name your wanting to use since the installer will only use the file names it has set in the ini file. this was done for menu reasons not to limit user access. or replace the current files in the bios folder with the one you want but using the file name of the current file. either one will work.
as a 3rd option you can edit the evox.ini on the xbox HDD and add the flash option to the menu and then all bios in the Bios folder on the C: of the xbox will be displayed for your selection to which you wish to install.

have at it

it worked great thanks!!

I am glad you got it working and are Happy, Reading is a KEY part of the Xbox learning process. It is a must that you read any text file or NFO file that comes with the downloads you get. Not from just us but from anywhere. The Authors of the apps or programs list install instructionsnlist of known bugs or expected problems, or what the app or program is expected to do. and how to get it to do that.
This will also help you understand in time what is taking place and what is being changed or not changed, maybe added or removed. this is a step in learning how to make the changes you want with out the use of a tool like SlaYerS.

Hi all:

Love the CDs SLayer, used the 2.0 to install to my v1.0 XBox, np probs, upgraded to 2.1 from CD, no probs at all.  Some questions about it, but Ill ask in another post.

Ok, so I bought a refurbed XBox, brought it home, didnt hook it up and boot it or anything, popped in the X2Pro chip, flashed no prob, FRAG'ed no prob, went to go boot the Slayer Auto INstall CD, wont boot.  Take CD out, turn mod chip off, get stuck at the XBox X screen where the M$ Logo is supposed to pop up, but never does, just gets stuck there.  Should I have booted the XBox before I modded and used the CD? Now i cant get the XBox to boot at all.  Heres what I was thinking

Take my old retail HD (from my v1.0 already modded w/a new HD), put it inside the refurbed XBox, pop mod chip thats been flashed on there, and use the SLayer CD? ANy ideas? ANy one tried this Before? Help?

Ive posted here because when I have had any problems or stumped, this forum helps me more than any other.  THanks in advanced.

Tom

Because you did not boot the Xbox first you do not really know if it was a working Xbox. SO going on that and the fact it would not boot the installer CD, you then remove the chip and still it will not boot. Hmmmm. Does not sound good at this point.
If you want to use your old HDD from the one you upgraded the HDD in and transplant it into this one you will have to unlock it in the old box first, with it unlocked you can now boot the xbox with a mod chip because the drive is unlocked it will not boot retail-chip off or no mod chip.

you may try your DVD drive in the referb box as well to see if it will boot the installer, Also flash the chip with D6 this will boot sometime when xecuter bios wont.

Good Luck

YES and if you read the DOC's you would know this. Please read the DOC's before you go any further as you do not know what your doing. The DOC's were writen with n00bs like you in mind but if you dont bother to read them then it was a real waste of my time don't you think.

1wolf1 & SS113,

Thanks for this tool, it certainly made my initial experiences with modding an xbox a lot easier than what I expected.

I do have a question though.  As I've read through tutorials on installing EvolutionX and compare them to what I observe as the final outcome of the Auto-Installer, I'm wondering why all the files in  C: of the XBox are no longer there ?  The only files in C: are xboxdash.xbe, evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini

None of the tutorials I've seen (In regards to installing Evox) have a process to delete or move those files, and they all show them in the C: directory after transfering over the EvolutionX files.   But in the case of the Auto-Installer, all these files been moved to  C://xboxdashdata.10027100

I've also looked through the evox.ini file to see if there's some sort of "pointer" to that directory, so that when I turn of my chip (X-ecuter 2 PRO) those files are referenced or are copied back in some way.  But I don't see anything.

It seems to me that when I boot the XBox without the chip enabled, that xboxdash.xbe expects to see those files in the root directory.  But because I am able to boot to the m$dashboard, that assumption doesn't seem hold water.

So if you could help me understand this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again for the Tool !

BTW... I need to add that my setup is with an X-ecuter Pro chip, Bios X2 4976.02, and that I used the Installer with:

(D) Setting-Up a V1.0 or V1.1 XBOX with a Retail HD and a MOD chip that can be turned OFF!

The reason the C: files look differant then what you have seen printed in the past is because the Slayers Installer uses the Xbox Live Dashboard. all non live dashborad use to have the xtra files and are removed buy rhe live dash when installed so we just used one dash that works with all xboxs and will keep the xbox from getting messed up when or if live is installed by a user or a game.
The files structure is correct and will work as a retail boot and from in EvoX use the system managment then MS Dash for setting time this is the retail dash and is a Live dash as you will see the Xbox Live Icon. if the MS dash dose not work then the install was

Hope this clears it up for you.

Hi again:

OK, so I installed my X2Pro w/PogoPins a lil over a month ago. Recently added LEDs under the jewel and a set of 3 fans on the right side of tha case. After I added the LEDs, everything great, then X2Pro just stopped working, redid pogo pins, got it to work once, then only boots to MS Dash w/X2Pro off, and Boots 2x(FRAGs) then solid green, no video or audio. Cant get the XECUTER logo to pop up instead of MS logo. Ive redone the PogoPins over n over, opened that box at least 10+ times. Only FRAG 2x and no video or audio w/X2Pro on. I know the BIOS is good, just updated it to the latest XECUTER and the Evox is also up to date. What could it be? Damn pogo pins? Ive been soldering alot more lately, just not yet ready to try d0. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks.

ohmy.gif The Xbox doesn't start up w/ the evox dashboard. What now, did I totally miss something?

I put the auto-installer cd back in so that I could ftp into the box to make sure the files had copied over, sure enough, all the new files are there. Is this something as simple as editing the .xbe files? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Your on the right track and that is to unload those damn pogo pins. what you may try till you get the nerve to tackle the D0 is remove the chip and pogo adapter and make sure the pins move in and out freely. i did a repair on a Matrix once that would work if you put slight pressure on one side of the chip, this was because one of the pins would not make contact as it did not stick out as far as the others once pressed in and released so it made no contact or poor contact.
This will give you something to look for and also check and be sure the LPC and the D0 point are clean and not damaged.

Hope this helps but the end of your problem will begin with soldering in the header or wires for a good connection .

I am glad you found the tool and are up and running, now would be a good time to start looking for where these apps and programs can be gotten from. so when the time comes to update or change what you now have your not looking in a panic and cant find what it is you looking for.

Learn how to update your Xbox so you dont have to rely on someone else or a new verson of the installer if there is even another.

Dig in and have fun thats what it is all about

Once again another great auto-installer v2.1

I installed your v2.0 when it came out.
I had just got my xbox and did not know a thing about it.
Your installer was fantastic.

I have been having a few problems with saving my originals on to the hard drive. Only the latest games and i had never flashed the bios.
Read the posts for hours, was going to try myself but i'm a wimp.
Anyway i used your auto-installer to upgrade evox, bmp and the other apps.
Then i flashed my xbox to the x-cuter 2 bios.
The 2 games i had put on my hard drive work find now.
Which is a god send, my nephew keeps scratching the disks.
Anyway, your v2.1 sorted all my problems out.

Once again thanks to you and everyone who helped put this brilliant piece of software together

You are most welcome and I am glad to see that you are an old "customer" and have been using my installer for several versions now.

Now you should take the next step, analyze how it works and improve on it.  Hey, maybe you'll release the next must-have tool, you never know untill you try.

Best of luck and enjoy the xbox, it truly has a world of possibilities...

Hello All,
First off, thanks to everyone for the open dialogue throughout these boards. They've helped me get this far. smile.gif
But for now I'm hung up using Slayer's 2.1.  I've made it as far as rebuilding a new hard drive. The rebuild completes, I remove the installer, turn off the box and reboot. At this point, I should be seeing an evox dash (as I understand it), but instead I get hung up on the XBOX screen (the bottom reads xecutor2 so I know that the bios is loading). The system just hangs on the xbox screen, and I can hear my hard drive slowly, rythmically clicking.
If I try to boot with a disabled chip, I get an "error 13."
I've tried this operation with an evox D.6 bios, and the xecutor 4976.02...and i'm using a matrix chip.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, or have a suggestion?
Any help is incredibly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes this is common with users who used a USED CD-RW disk for the installer. what happens is the laser is not strong enough to read the disk properly so it gets corrupt or no data tranfers for some or many files.
If you burned the installer to a NEW CD-RW or DVD-R and are having this problem then I would suggest zeroing the HDD with a PC program used to preform that task and try the install again. this should not be required as i have used working PC drives with a working XP install on the drive stuck it in the xbox booted the installer and rebuilt the drive and the xbox works just fine so there is some sort of data transfer problem here and with little info about your xbox this is all i have to offer at this time.

****NOTE**** NEW CD-RW is a Unformatted and not ereased CD_RW freash from the wraper.

Thanks for the suggestions.
As I was using clean media, I tried zeroing the drive. Same effect. I ftp'ed to the xbox and compared the contents of the drive to the contents of the slayer .iso and they seemed to match up okay. (This was a 120 gig maxtor drive by the way, brand spankin new,  on a v 1.1 xbox.)
Popped a different drive in there (a 30 gig, year or two old and quite abused) and it seems to be working.
Must have been a drive defect?

Thanks for the help. smile.gif

And thank you, Ory, for the link!

I have heard of simmilar behaviour with some Samsung HD's and it was due to jumper settings.  I have heard of it happening on a Maxtor HD, one of those Dell "deals".

If I were you, and this was a retail unit, I would return the Maxtor and get another one, same or different model.  I run 2 of these with 8MB cache and locked and they work great.

There is no substitute for a nice 120GB drive in the xbox especially now that you can record mp3's from the live SHOUTcast stations.

Have tried other installers but Slayers 2.1 has been the best i have used. A great all in one package.

Ripped it apart first to take a look at the ini files and folder structure to get my head round how it works then used to see what the actual install screens and final job looked like.

VERY VERY NICE! Shouts out to 1wolf1!

Now i've learnt a fair bit on how its working i'm busy building up my own personalised version.

Thanks again.

You will need to edit your evox.ini file on the C: of the Xbox to add the flash option to the menu, this was removed from the large and retail evox.ini files for the reason kids would have access to these machines and Dad or Mom would find JR. has flashed the chip or got scared and turned it off during the erase or writing of the chip and the Xbox is now dead. so I will post what needs to be added and you can use FTP to get the Evox.ini off the Xbox edit it and send it back, then reboot and look in system Management and you will see the flash option.

Item "Game Management on Xbox HD","f:AppsHDDLoaderdefault.xbe"
      Item "Choose a Different Skin",@13
Item "Flash BIOS",@1                 <------------- ADD this line to your evox.ini and save the file.
      Section  "Launch Apps from HD"

Then after saving the file send it back to the Xbox with FTP and reboot the Xbox so it sees the new Evox.ini settings, Then proceed to flashing your chip

I followed the Pre-install...FTP'd all over to my PC (C:, E:, F:)

I put in my new and larger HDD.

I then proceeded to the C section to install a larger HDD but be able to turn the mod off.
After following step 3 and using the REBUILD, function. I selected Rebuild V1.X Large HD-4920 and it took about 2 mins (if that) then it said done, and prompted me again to select "Rebuild V1.X Large HD-4920" Following the instructions I removed the installer and rebooted my Xbox, now I am getting Error 13 (Dashboard). Why is the installer from mirc an exe, and also the docs are exes. I   trust you, but I as a rule never run exes.   The installer surely should just be a zip file with a cdimage and the docs just txt files.

The reason for the EXE file type this time was because we use a new version of WIN RAR and many users were having CRC and other errors because of using older versions. To keep this from happening in this release it was released as an Self Extracting exe. If you do not wish to run the extractor exe thats your choice NO ONE is making you use the tool. and if you think for just a moment with all the support that is supplied and a mIRC channel dedicated to the installer for you to Download it from you really think we would have a Download that would harm your PC on the servers. C'Mon think a little but then again some people are set in there ways or standards and I except that no problem.

I assure you there is nothing wrong with the EXE files from the mIRC channel. The Choice Is Yours

Giggy

If you did the Rebuild Large HDD on a new Upgraded HDD in the Xbox and you get Error 13 then there is a media problem.
the install takes for a large HDD install about 3 to 3.5 minutes on CD-RW or 2 minutes from DVD-R.

One main reason the istall would be incomplete is using a formated or used CD-RW. in the doc's it is stressed to use a NEW CD-RW and the reason is the DVD drive will not always read erased or formated CD-RW disks. This is #1 reason for bad install.
if you used a new CD-RW or a DVD-R for your installer disk and need more help with this look me up on the mIRC i am there most evenings from 5:pm to 9:pm PST. I will help you with the install if your not up and going by the time you read this.

It must have something to do with the CD-RW not being new then. It hasnt been used much, maybe erased 4 times or so. I did notice that when I did the rebuild that it sort of hung at the F: drive part, then zipped through the rest of the drives.

BTW, the system is a v1.0, X2 lite flashed with the previous bios to the new recent release, so the bios before 4977.

I have got it running by following the FTP method of partitioning the drives and that seems to work for me know, but going back to the CD-RW I have also noticed that when I went to INST/UPD X2BM, EVOX etc, that it went throught that quite quickly with nothing accomplished.

Last question I had, is regarding doing a hotswap with another chip. When I do this, and swap to the chip I want flashed after the installer is running, do I simply run the TSOP/!mb Bios X2 flash? Was a little worried when I saw the TSOP flashing statement, as all I wanted to change was the X2 bios.

Thanks for your help and great support

Giggy

Thats how the developer "1wolf1"  packed it.  There have been literally 100's of responses from folks like myself who have downloaded and installed this wonderfull app.

Kinda strange you'd question the fact itsa .exe

Fear not my friend........it won't bite ya   ------   LOL   biggrin.gif

Correct, just another step to reduce the number of questions and confusion on how and with what software to extract it.

All is cool!

For those of us that installed older Evox Dasjboard using Slayers 2.0 and wish to upgrade to EvoX Dashboard 1.8.3752:
According to the 2.1 instruction; "YOU MUST BACKUP YOUR ENTIRE XBOX HD TO YOUR PC VIA FTP PRIOR TO USING THIS TOOLKIT!". This FTP procedure will take days to backup to my PC and another days to restore backup games back to the Xbox.
For now, I'm much prefer to just patch the newest games.
Is anyone else has any better ideas to upgrade to newer EvoX Dashboard 1.8.3752 without FTP? Please share your thoughts..........

Actually this is applicable whenever you are about do make any changes to your xbox that you do not fully understand and it's meant to ensure the safety of your data.

If you however want to upgrade just evox, v2.1 can do so for you painlesly.  What you must make sure however is that you're using one of the latest multiversion bioses like D.6 or X2 4975 or newer.  That is becasue the dashboard names have changed.  It's all in the docs included with v2.1 if you bother to read them.

If a mod sees you post something like that, and I am guessing that they will in about 2 minutes, you will receive the most unpleasant form of discipline so please don't request anything like this.

Great then, thanks.

On the first page of this thread is the directions on how to get the official release of the installer version 2.1

I would recommend you get it from there on the mIRC and know you have what was released. it is downloaded as a 100 Meg self extracting exe file. and makes into text files (the docs) and the ISO (the installer)

Follow the directions in the docs and be done with it.

Enjoy

Like i told you in the OTHER thread that you started asking this same thing, no.  There is no flash bios line, and installs and assumes that you will use Project X's hdd loader, which IMO, is not the best app for backups.

Other thread you started asking the same thing

And I mean, no, the evox.ini that slayers puts on your xbox, is far from 'default'.  It includes hard links old and outdated apps.
FOR EXAMPLE:  It assumes that you will use hddloader for your backups ,and looks for all games in f:HDDLoader
The 'default' evox.ini looks in e:games and f:games

The flash bios menu item was also left out, so in a month, when x2 4979 comes out, you will be back asking how you are supposed to flash your bios, and that you can't find the "Flash Bios" item in evox

Yes, XBMP that is installed is old.
It also installs PxHDD LOADER(an old version), the prefered app for backups is dvd2xbox.

Newer releases of the apps are available, but Slayers has not been updated, yet.
You could update the apps yourself, after install.  You could update the apps on the installer before install even.

There are currently 2 unhacked MS dashes.  The original and the LIVE dash.  If you use Slayers, it will install the LIVE dash.

Now that you edited your post... AGAIN....

Why is outdated?
Cause it was released months ago....

My recommendation is to......
read a tutorial on how to install evox
and then read a tutorial on how to install the apps

IMO, You will learn a ton more, and not have as many problems later on.

Slayers is a great tool for a newbie. You don't have to put to much thought into it.
If I were to do it again, I would use it again.
IMO, use Slayers, then go back and figure out how and why it works.

The part you are missing here is that if for whatever reason, slayer's fucks the xbox up, the newbie using slayer's is completely lost on how to fix it, what went wrong, or even what the disc was doing in the first place.

And anybody that says slayers doesn't fuck up on occasion (due to user error, or whatever) has not spent any time in an xbox help channel.

The disk is good in theory, but brutally horrible in practice.

QUOTE

You have to remember, some people are scared to death of screwing up there Xboxes. Some people have no computer skills at all. Some people are retarded. Some people are lazy. Some people can't entertain a thought for longer than 10 sec. Some people have used to many drugs to beable to function, mentally......
All of these people are trying to modify thier Xboxes.

Why is it nobody would every try to figure out why their fridge isn't working, or why their car is making that noise, or even why their tv flickers that weird way, but every single clueless person under the sun thinks they're equipped to mod an xbox? Simple.. Because things like this disc make them think they can.

You're most welcome.

It's good to see that even after five months since it's release it's still working like a champ.

I put countless testing hours into it and aside from a handfull of apps that are newer versions, almost everything is still "new"

Anyone complaining should just replace the "older" versions of the tools with the latest and re-burn the ISO,  Presto, instand upgrade!

Enjoy!

LOL, the "new" LIVE dash is nothing more then M$ attempt at patching the security holes in the current dash.  Why would I want to replace a perfectly working dash capable of being exploited with one that is locked up tight?

Anyone wanting to give up all the posibilities the "old" dash provides us with can just connect to M$ and they will be updated automatically.

Now that was really a silly request, wasn't it?

Regardless of what any of the haters are saying, this is the greatest learning tool for the directory structure and App placement for the Xbox. I couldn't have learned at the rate I did if I had to sift through all the posts on the forums for the simplest questions. Theory in practice was the teacher for me.

LOL, don't think so. I'm not here to answer everyone's dreams and wishes, remember you're getting all this for free....

As I previousely stated, I might look into an updated version now that the new EvoX is out and supports >137GB, but no promisses.

Also, since the installer is already very large I will not be including emulators and the such, everyone should feel free to "improve" their own copy in whatever way they choose.  You can never have a version that pleases everyone.

I was really hoping EvoX would have a means to pasword /key protect menus to prevent things like noob banning... oh well... maybe in the next version.

Keep watching the newsflash on page 1 and happy Xboxing!

I been trying for weeks to get Linux to run on box but it keeps frezzing everytime i try to boot it from evox, I heard that slayers auto installer 2.1 should do the trick, is this true because I have empty hard drive I can try this on before I do it on my current hard drive.

it should do,i have used GentooX on my xbox after installin the slayer installer v2.1 on my e: drive(like it sayz in the nfo's//readme's u need 3.5GB free on e: drive)and happy dayz,it starts to load up.It did stops a few times(must be loadin stuff)so i thought it crashed, went for a smoke and when i got back it was loaded with Gentoox,so if ya got it on e: drive then just load it frm the evox menu and happy dayz(my eject button turned orange and it took some time to load up,i was usin Gentoox.ShALLaX.v1.4_rc3.Home-Edition so maybe u just not givin it enough time to load) cool.gif

huh.gif  I didnt lock my hard drive correctly when changing an eeprom. I used a hella stupid program (I was just following programs and instructions in a tutorial on xbox-scene) EEPROMER!! its so dumb! It fudged my hard drive. Anyways, I need some help. Anyone know how to get config magic to work on this disc. It looks like slayers program is the shit, I mean the shit! Completely awesome, but I cant access config magic. I click it, and it reboots my system. Very fustrating. If I really didnt my xbox in, I will most likely use slayers auto installer to format my drive and rebuild it. All I can say is I have lost my patience, for my xbox has been broken for a week. Its just annoying now. I have burned 30-40 discs, each one not booting, not working, or whatever. Im tired of it and just ready to dump all the movies I have and everything. Can someone help me load up configmagic? so I can unlock my drive?  muhaha.gif

BTW, the new evox dashboard has unlock/lock features.... doesnt work.....I already tried. adios! blink.gif

I'm very new to the X-box, having bought a machine here in the UK a couple of weeks ago.  I also got an Xecutor 2.2 Lite mod chip and installed that together with a spare Maxtor 40Gb HDD I had.

Got everything working manually after reading shitloads of tutorials and stuff, but was struggling to install apps and such like, although I would have got there eventaully.

Having found these forums and this thread I downloaded the installer last night and burned to DVD-r this morning.  All I needed to change was the network settings and everything was OK.

Now I have the system I was trying to piece together in one, very easy install.  An excellent piece of work and well worth the download even on a 64k ISDN line (took ages!!)

Please dont give up m8 - this software is as good as it gets and it would be a shame if it wasnt taken further.  Keep up the excellent work so that us newbies can have a good start without the pain.

Excellent stuff - keep it up!!

LOL, glad it was of use to you.

I did not give up, it's just that it consumes a lot of my time, the testing and docs in particular, and I need to earn a living.

So far I have had 0 offers of assistance or support and as a one man team I cannot do it all and still have a life.

Even though I have had help with testing and the docs in the past, thanks SS113, no one skilled has offered to help beyond that. 2bad!

Hey, I just wanted to say that Slayer's auto installer, is possibly the best thing ever created. It like boosted my Xbox's usage like a million times over, even though I had Xbmp 2.4, oh well, I can always quickly put that on insted of 2.3 but other than that.. THANK YOU so much for an awesome tool kit!

There is no v2.4!!!

Use your judgement, a new version would be v2.2 since the last was v2.1.  Also, you would see a post from me on this forum even before it was available.

So, no announcement from me = FAKE!

Ok I downloaded the file from your IRC channel and extracted it. I then tried to open it in ISO Buster to extract it so I could edit and add some of my own stuff to it like my emulators and roms and some apps and bioses as well. BUT when I open it in ISO Buster it shows it as an empty iso with nothing it. There is nothing to extract. so then I tried using Alcohol 120% to mount the image to a fake drive and that also did not work. If I try to access the emulated drive it gives me an error. Why is it doing this? I've now downloaded the .exe twice and both times recieved the same error.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or maybe point me in the direction of a better place to download from? Maybe the file is screwing up while downloading??

Thanks in advance!

I have a feeling I must do something special to remake the ISO since the original would not run in ISOBuster. So if anyone can help me out that would be awesome.

Use slayers 2.1 install then add any apps via FTP from your PC.  There is nothing out there that beats it.  I have them all.

most applications included in slayer 2.1 are pretty much cover what you need unless you want to upgrade applications to latest version like Xbmp 2.4, Hdd loader 1.2a etc.

I know I could do it that way but obviously I don't want to. I want to modify the disk as there are certain things not on it that I would like to always have on it in the future if I do a new install such as Emulators, and Homebrew Games. Obviously I could do it the FTP way but I decided I'd like to do it this way as it is easier. I don't need to store all the files on my PC's hard drive so that I have them everytime I need to format a new drive. I can simply keep the CD I made and that is all. No need to have each and every file saved. You may not agree with my way, but oh well. So if someone can help me out on my original question that would be awesome. Thanks!!

All you do is burn the files as an ISO with Nero or my favorite, RecordNOW Max 4.5

If you read the NFO files with v2.1 it tells you to use UDF128 + 8.3 Bridge as the format.

I personally use gdfimage to make a real XBOX ISO for the release but both methods work.

You can even add LINUX in the "linux" folder in the root, burn to DVD as it will be quite large, and install it from the main menu if you want.

Thanks for the info. I do have a copy of gfdimage so maybe I shall try that method first. And I also have Recordnow Max (which as well as you, is my favourite).

I have 2 questions now. I've seen mention that you should burn it to CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD-RW and I am curious can you use just a normal CD-R and if not, why is that?

Second, if I installed one of the linux distros are you able to play computer games on the xbox?? Obviously they must run in linux and the xbox requirements must meet the games requirements..but is that possible?

Thanks for the program and thanks for the support!

Only the Samsung DVD drive for the Xbox supports CDR and they make up about 5% of the DVD drives in all xboxes.  In a word, it's rare.
ALL xboxes can read CD-RW, even if a little slow, but OK nonetheless.

As for your comp game question, anything you can run in linux, including window emulators works.  Just keep in mind the biggest bottleneck is the limited 64MB of RAM in the xbox.

Service Error 07
Info: Harddisk timeout.
Solution: Check the IDE Connection/Cable and check the Power Supply.

There you have it... you possibly didn't connect the HDD good enough.
Things like that can happen when the XBox was disassembled.
Just make sure everything is connected the right way...

...if you want to make sure it is not the modchip: disable it, turn on XBox, and see if the code returns or not.

I was thinking I would like to add Debian linux into my auto-installer disc. Is this possible to do and if so, could someone explain or point me in the proper direction of how to do it? I've been looking over the Xbox-Linux page and have not really been able to figure out how one could incorporate it into this CD. Thanks

I chose to use the GentooX Linux because it is pre-compiled for the xbox and pre-configured.  It is just a matter of copying a few files and it's fully installed and configured.

The other flavors of Linux require a lot more effort.

Basically, install whatever flavour of Linux you want as per the xbox-linux docs.  Once it's working and it's fully configured, reboot with the installer or evoX, FTP in and download ALL the files that make up the linux install.

Then take those files and place them in the root of a folder called "/linux/" now burn the installer with that additional folder in the root, after you've edited the evox.ini file to reflect the name of your linux instalation.

Lastly, you'll need a DVD-R/DVD-RW to burn the installer as a CD-RW will not have enough space.

Good luck!

soon, very soon...

I'm working hard and SS113 is testing like mad to make sure no one finds any bugs and the release is solid.

I will delay the release as long as it takes to ensure it's stable and fully tested.

Slayer, just a tip. If I were you... lol well seriously i'd do this. Make/Include a program in the slayer cd which is burning software. That means if someone puts in a PC dvd-r drive then they're able to make copies of games straight off the xbox rather than transfering to pc. I think this would be a pretty handy program to have...

your thoughts?

LOL, ok, firstly, that would NOT be XBOX software, but PC/MAC software and thus totally unrelated to the installer.

Second, such software almost already exists.  Look at xISOManager and the new Qwix coming out.  They both will allow you to place a title in the dvd of the xbox and make an ISO of it on your PC that you can then burn.  Burning directly is not really possible without some very creative caching as the ISO needs to be made before it is burned.  Best bet for you is to contact the authors of those tools and ask them, no need to re-invent the wheel.

Hi Slayer,

Really great job !! Will You also release a new version for the HD more than 137Gigabyte ? Because at the moment, with this version, You can´t include the "G"-drive....that would be very nice...

André

The new version sure does and as always it has the latest and greatest versions of all the main apps and tools.

I used slayer 2.1 on my retail drive (worked great), I have got an 80 GB here and I used 2.5 option to format a upgraded large hardrive with a mod chip that can be turned off (Xbit). However opon completion. and removal of the install disk, it boots to evoX, but it has no options nothing, as in all i have are the BASIC evoX options. (where the first option is boot to MS dashboard - which does nt boot to it at all, hust returns it to evoX after 45 seconds) I tried to reformat again using the same install disk, hoping it was a install problem, however it happened again. So any ideas at this point would be appreciated.

The third time i made a new disk, with a differnernt.
this time the format on, but when i took the disk out booted to the ms dashboard

any ideas?

Your problem is Media related, meaning the disks you are using are not being read properly in the DVD drive. the sysptons you say are happening sound just like the results you get when using USED media. also the thomson DVD drive is picky when it comes to what it will read so try a Differant brand of media and follow the directions for burning the ISO to disk in either 2.1 or 2.5 doc's
