Title: Evo-x And Direct Connections
Post by: BLACKOUT on April 01, 2003, 08:44:00 PM
The Ip 0.0.0.0 is not a valid IP so that would be the root of the problem.
You need to set up your Xbox and Network card to have static IPs that are on the same subnet so they can see each other.
With notepad or with the on screen menu in evox you need to edit the evox.ini file to the IP and subnet you want.
To make it easy try this
Set your computer IP and subnet as follows;
IP: 192.168.100.1
SubNet: 255.255.255.0
Set your xbox IP and subnet as follows;
IP: 192.168.100.2
SubNet: 255.255.255.0
You should then be able to use any FTP client to log into your Xbox and transfer files back and forth
Try that and see how it works, if it doesn't post more info and such and we will try to help.

Nope, it still isn't connecting.  I tried setting the IP to 192.168.100.1 through the Evo-X settings menu, but it will keep reverting it to the original IP, which is 192.168.0.3.  Also, I set the option "Use Static IP" but that also keeps reverting back to "No".

The first four categories (Type, IP, Line Status, Ethernet MAC address) are blued out and unaccessible; is this normal?  I have nothing under Type, and I have 0.0.0.0 under IP.

Would something be wrong with the actual network connection itself?  Or maybe I'm using the wrong kind of cable?  I can't figure it out at all because I followed all the steps correctly...

If you are running evoX off of a cd you need to edit the evox.ini file and then reburn the cd with the new evox.ini file.
If you are running evoX off the hard drive, be sure after you make any changes to your settings you go to the bottom of the menu and select the option to save the settings.  Then reboot your xbox for the changes to work.
Try that.

I'm not sure how to get into the .iso file to edit evox.ini.  I downloaded a program called "IsoBuster" that lets you view the contents in an .iso.  But for some reason, it won't show anything at all for the Evo-X .iso that I have.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, I should have checked there.

Alright, I got the .iso file open, but there doesn't seem to be an evox.ini.  There *is* a menu.ini but there aren't any existing values that I can edit; pertaining to the network.

I'm using V1.8.458.  Maybe I should get the newest release?  Though I heard the new release was a bit buggy.

CODE

[Network]

SetupNetwork   = Yes
StaticIP   = No
Ip  = 192.168.0.2
Subnetmask   = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway   = 192.168.0.1
DNS1  = 0.0.0.0
DNS2  = 0.0.0.0
SkipIfNoLink   = No
SetupDelay   = 10

*Note this is from the newest release and some items might not be present in the evox.ini files of older releases*
Then you just need to edit the IP and subnetmask to the settings you want and then save and burn the iso to a cd or dvd
Hope that helps

Oh, and I'm just using a PC with a cheap (£3 sterling) 100 meg card, IP Set to 192.168.0.1, a crossover cable, and an Xbox with Evox on CDR right now

Oh, further to that

download the latest evox, extract the ISO if necessary

LEAVE ALL SETTINGS AS STANDARD, other than the static IP one, change that to =yes

then follow the basic network tutorials

in ur config under ur network card instead of 192.168.100.1 put 192.168.0.1 (change the 100 to 0) then subnet 255.255.255.0 - go into ur evox dash and set your ip to 192.168.0. for the last number pick a number between 2 and 255 turn use static ip to yes reboot ur xbox and log into it using the ip u asigned in evo x - hope this helps i just had the same problem and got in that way, also make sure u dont put a gateway number in ur pc

Also make sure you're not using a hacked version of Flash FXP. I've heard that some people have had problems with poorly hacked versions.

I'm going to have to get back to you guys.  I can't even burn a damn copy of Evo-X correctly anymore; I have no idea what happened.
