Title: Evolutionx Dashboard Beta Build 3682
Post by: BenJeremy on March 22, 2003, 02:07:00 PM
Yeah.... I'm disappointed.

The "Screen Saver" is, well, bleh. At the very least they could have stolen my MXM screen saver!! Geez, I open source and everything, and well... :::sigh:::

Not even sound or music support.

All in all a boring, unremarkable release.

OMG, debug BIOS FTP support still isn't fixed... that's like the most important fix possible...

Team Xecuter will most likely have debug bios support in their next release, and that means EvoX will be totally unusable...  mad.gif

Looking forward to Team Xecuters next release. They said 'a couple of days' over a month ago. I can't wait, as I thought their previous alpha showed a lot of promise. This new release of evoX hasn't really done it for me...

Dont get me wrong, I think it's great and all, and I enjoy following the evolution of evolution X (huh?), but I'm looking for something to something a bit different to use as my dash instead of evo and xbmp.

Screensaver's a good feature regardless of what they used for it, because I think my default evox skin is starting to burn a hole in my tv! (tidy trax lasers)

Just wish they would open source it to let others improve on their work.

The readme.txt does not have the new ID short commands for:

Item "Networking",@6
Item "Hard Disk",@7

Anyone figured them out?

(e.g. ID_Network or ID_Hard_Disk)

I run of dvd-rw, so it would be painful for me to try and "guess"  blink.gif

Yes, it is currently the most useful.... but that will change in the next two months or so.

The neXgen team hasn't been sitting idly by, AFAIK, just avoiding the hype that caused way too many expectations and rushed a very nice looking product.

It's a shame the Evo-X guys couldn't see fit to open source their stuff. I've asked them to do that for ages now, but I've faced the fact that I just had to make my own journey of discovery when it came to the mysteries of launching/handling software on the Xbox.

this new version does not take care of the new games that have moved game flags right?

wish they could have done that part ..

for the 2nd media check (moved flag) does it HAVE to be a bios that will fix this issue (hopefully) without needing to do physical patch or COULD a dashboard do it?

no big deal.. but one less step  lol

yeah still waiting for nexgen. 4 months later

You guys seem pretty damn ungreatful. If I asked everyone on this site what they use i reckon > 95% would say evo-x dash.

Who cares about sound and flashy colours etc. It does what it is advertised to do and it does it well.

Props to the Evo-X team for releasing another update on a very very fine product.

Item "Hard Disk",@7

Holy shiite. My CPU is 106 Degrees Farenheit after being powered on for the first time today... I have a V1.0 with both fans... I guess that is comparable to any 733mhz Pentium Processor, but it still seems high!

Well, i seem to think that this release is really good.

The IGR is WAY better, the temp feature is nice, not many new features, but some nice advancements.

Here is what i think should be added in future realeases:
-password protect
-background music
-better skining
-HDTV support (ie. 16x9, 1080i resulutions)

Props to all at evox, great product.

I think the new IGR is faulty (thought it was good at first, but now I am running into problems).

After playing a few games for a while (eg Madden 2003), the IGR just makes the screen go black.

mayB it's just me (running x2 4974 bios), but I liked the prev. IGR.

Download new evoX: n/a (build with XDK)

grr.gif  grr.gif MAJOR FLAWS grr.gif  grr.gif

ok maybe not, but needed to get your attention.

1). IGR makes the screen go black, confirmed on many games and with both v1.0 and v1.1 xbox's.
(solution, use prev. dash version, it has the "hard" reset).

2). This next prob. happened to my friends xbox, may/may not be related to the new dash.....
    - installed new dashboard onto v1.1 xb (samsung drive)
    - attempted to flash cheapmod with evox-eject fix.... stopped half way
    - power up/down 3x,  red/green lights.
    - replaced cheapmod with another working cheapmod, everything works 100%.

I don't have sockets so I can't be bothered testing if this is a dashboard problem (highly unlikely) but if anyone else has prob. no. 2 then please post!

in the readme file, it says that the items.txt will be place wherever your evoxdash.xbe is.
my evoxdash is in C so i can't confirm if this is true.

laugh.gif ) , but even better, the soundtracks ripped to the hdd, using the black and white buttons to switch songs smile.gif And little menu sounds....And maybe a little more eye-friendly menu, instead of just one small bar that "stays still", while you are actually only rotating the text.... Yea theres definitely room for improvement. Id love to see a nexgen looking evox.

the dudes in evox prolly got a life since the last release, heh. also, this seems like a bugfix release with somewhat minor features (Screen saver that just dims the screen, wait a few secs to connect to ftp...) i dunno about the igr. i had better results when i tried to reboot the game when i wasnt in the middle of a read/write sequence to the hard drive. i havent tried it in this dash though. (my xecuter bios just locks up the game sometimes, but it is rare)

to find the dash do a search on google, i found it in like, 5 minutes. (hint: just goto a site even if its not in english, cuz the word 'downloads' and 'evox' are pretty universal)

Why on earth are you trying to use explorer as an ftp client? its barely a usable web browser, let alone an ftp client. in this day and age where storage is dirt cheap and bandwidth is plentiful, the is NO excuse why you would use explorer over an actual working ftp client

The fact is, something dramatically changed in the new EvoX FTP server.  That's all I was pointing out.

There are times when Explorer is easy and seamless.  I also use CuteFTP, which has its own share of limitations/quirks/nuisances.  Besides, what I use as an FTP client is up to me.   wink.gif

many ftp bug has be fixed

works like a charm

cute ftp told me a error when u/l a file : didn't support 3 digit ...
but everything works

the best is now with this build i can save some step to transfer files from partition f and other partition
exmple:

before 3682, if i want to move a directory from partition f:games, i had to move the directory from the xbox to the PC and then reu/l the whole thing to the new partition

with 3682, i can move a directory without transfering to the PC

that's a big +

Sounds to me like I wont take the time, effort or money to 3682 my box. But the south paw option looks real nice. It seems like everybody is having dif. problems because of bios. Maybe team evox should release a specific bios for evox 3682. Or have they? I think that'd clear up the IGR and such.

The next evox NEEDS
1.SOUND
2.PASSWORD PROTECTION
3.A TIMER

People with little brothers get 2. & 3.

Any one who does work for themselves and especially others can only use criticism not little bitches nagging. So go ahead and nag, you know, if you don't want real progress.

Another spectacular release from the guys that set the precident that others are following!!!

but,.......I find is surprising that so many of you forget that these are the people that first brought you the ftp to xbox technique, and the launch from harddrive idea....not only that, but the bios that allowed you to put in a larger harddrive........but hey.....I guess that doesn't matter when there are so many other dash clones out there....jeez.....ungratefule bastards.........

to evoX team:  keep it up and be innovative.....you set the standard..

to the rest of you: who cares if there's anything else....I'd rather have the real thing than a generic cola
