All good, got everything working. No need to make reply's here anymore.
Ok, question.
I have a Rar file called EvolutionX_beta_V1.8.3285
Now when I open it, it's all the file and not a ISO.
I need it on a CD so I can use it in my DVDrom drive to load it up on my newley modded system.
Should I just simply burn the files to disc? Or is there anything special I need to do?
-
search for a tutorial on xIso... that should get you started... or any tut on burning a boot disc
-
You need to make it into an ISO using xISO
This is how I do it
Make a new folder on your desktop and name it DASHBOARD
Make another new folder on your desktop and name it DASH-ISO
Extract your dashboard to DASHBOARD
You will now have, in the folder DASHBOARD, the files needed to make an ISO
How to make an xISO
Open xISO
Click Tools
Click Make a xISO
Now browse to the folder DASHBOARD click OK
Now browse to the folder DASH-ISO and type Boot Disk in the File Name window click SAVE
It will now make an xISO about 3 > 4 Mb in size
-
Yep, already did all that.
I burned in Disc Juggler, but its not working.
Does it NEED to be burned using Xiso?
I get a ASPI error (WinXP), I installed the ASPI drivers, about to reboot and see.
But if I cant burn with Xiso, then what else is there that will make a good burn?
-
Ok, xiso sees my cd writter now, but it gives me some error in spanish when I click Burn.
-
not sure about DJ, I use Nero...
-
I just burned it in Nero 5.something, as it burns it says its a ISO 9660, is that right?
I'm about to pop it into the xbox.
Nope, that one didnt work either.
3 CD-r's down.
-
Xbox 1.0 or 1.1? 1.0 will NEVER read CD-R's, use CD-RW instead.
-
USE CDRW not CDR's
How to burn using NERO
Insert a blank CD-RW or DVD
Open up Nero
Click File > Burn Image
Direct it to your newly made ISO
Click Finalize CD
Write Speed 2X
Write Method Disc-At-Once
Click Write
It will now burn your image to disk
-
I am using my PCDVDRom drive though.
And my crappy cd writter wont even burn RW's.
-
CD-R's?!?!?! Doh... sorry man,,, I didnt think about that... like I had said to start... reading a Tut is your best bet... no matter, we are at the heart of the problem now...
This will only work with CD-RW's
-
Even though I am using the Evox disc in my PC dvdrom drive that can read cd-r's?
-
Try TDK CDRW650's or 700's
Don't try any fast CDRW like TRAXDATA 10x speed. Even my CD writer wont do these
-
Your PC shouldn't be able to read the disk if it is made properly
-
Ok, CD-RW's work, I got that.
I'll try and burn one with a friends system.
BUT, I read that a CD-R will work to as long as your booting it from a PCDVD rom drive, which is what I am doing. But no matter what cd-r's wont work? This correct?
Ok, i'll test the discs right now in my pc.
-
Ok, my PC can read them.
So the ISO must have not been made right.
Any ideas? I used Xiso to create the image.
-
Have you got a PCDVD rom drive in your XBox then ???
-
Yes. It's hooked up as a Slave on the cable the HD is on, while the xboxdvd drive is there with its power cable in, just as the tutorials say.
-
This is what I would do
Make the ISO and burn it this way
Make a new folder on your desktop and name it DASHBOARD
Make another new folder on your desktop and name it DASH-ISO
Extract your dashboard to DASHBOARD
You will now have, in the folder DASHBOARD, the files needed to make an ISO
How to make an xISO
Open xISO
Click Tools
Click Make a xISO
Now browse to the folder DASHBOARD click OK
Now browse to the folder DASH-ISO and type Boot Disk in the File Name window click SAVE
It will now make an xISO about 3 > 4 Mb in size
Now burn this image to a CDRW
How to burn using NERO
Insert a blank CD-RW or DVD
Open up Nero
Click File > Burn Image
Direct it to your newly made ISO
Click Finalize CD
Write Speed 2X
Write Method Disc-At-Once
Click Write
It will now burn your image to disk
Now put your original X Box DVD rom drive back and try to boot your disk
-
Ok, I'll give that a shot.
I do have a Thomson drive though, so lets pray.
-
-
Ok, the only CD-RW I have is an old Verbatim 2X/4X
Think it'll work?
I'm gonna have a hell of a time formatting it, since its in some weird filesystem that XP dosnt understand.
-
Ok, maybe you can help me.
This cd-rw I got was burned in Win98, using my same recorder, but in WinXP, it shows a text file that say.
"This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."
Any ideas on what I need for WinXP to see the data so I can format this sucker?
Edit
Ok, Nero seems to be erasing this bastard. Says it'll take about 2 fuckin hours =(
It's a 2X. Damn slow.
Hopfully this will work.
Again though, anyone have luck with Verbatim brand in a Thomson?
-
You know, could it possibly also be another problem?
As I sit here waiting for almost 2 horus for this disc to format, I get thinking.
When it boots with my PCDVD drive in, it blinks red/green everytime, then the service screen comes up.
Is this what always happens when it cant read the Evox disc you put it? Or is it supposed to go to the normal M$ Dashboard?
-
What error number comes up on the sevice screen ??
-
12, it didnt like my DVD Rom drive.
But it's all good now, I got it all up and running.
EvoX is on it and all is good.
Thanks for all the help though.
