Hey all,
Here is a problem I'm having helping a friend with his new HD
install and EvolutionX_beta_V1.8.3285 setup.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. First thing I had him do was to backup C & E from the Xbox
to his PC.
2. We are using the New HD Evox 1.2 method. Inside the the
New HD Evox 1.2 folder are 2 other folders named "cdrive"
& "edrive".
3. I have him copy the default.xbe and evox.ini to the "cdrive folder"
Then rename the default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe.( He has Evox D6
on his matrix which I believe boots to evoxdash.xbe )
4. I have him copy the contents of his backedup C folder to the
"cdrive" folder, then copy the contents of his backedup E folder
to the "edrive" folder.
5. I have him use xISO to make an iso image of the contents of
the New HD Evox 1.2 folder. Then burn the image using nero.
Nero settings: write at 4x / Disck-at-Once / Finalize Cd.
6. I have test the the new boot cd to confirm it works before
he replaces the HD. It boots fine, first 2 option in menu are
"Prepare HD" and "fix Atributes"
7. I have him now power off the Xbox & swap the drives.
Then boot it with the new boot cd we just made, and the new
drive in place. boots up fine.
8. I have him run the "Prepare HD". It does no problem.
then I have him run "Fix Atributes". It does, no problem.
9. I have him remove the cd, and reboot. Up comes the "X" logo
then the "Matrix Inside" shows up on the bottom of the screen.
It just hangs there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I know the "Matrix Inside" thing on the bottom of the boot up
screen is part of the evoxdash.xbe, so it is trying to load the Evox
dash. But it just hangs there.
My thoughts are either the evox.ini or the backed-up C files
are messed up. If anyone else has any ideas, I would love to here
them. Also does the Evoxdash rely on any of the Xbox orignal files?
thanks in advance
PS. we are still able to boot it from the CD and can ftp to the box.
all the normal stuff is there.

I think you are on the right track.
Could be the xbox didnt get a good copy of every file off the cd during the install.
FTP in and check things out, copy over the known good evox ini...
copy over the os files again, reformat partitions etc.
No, the evoxdash does not require the original os files.
Using the old school prep method you can boot the xbox without a single file on the hard drive.

Hey all,
Thanks for the reply.
I solved the problem, as I expected the files from the the backup
were not put in the right places, when I instructed him to
copy the contents of his back up c folder to the cdrive folder,
he misunderstood me and he copied the actual C folder to the
cdrive folder (not the contents of the c folder). Likewise, When
Istructed him to do the same for the E backup folder he copied
the actual E folder to the cdrive folder. This ment the contents
of the c and e were being copied to the new HD c, which I think
exceeded the amount of space on the new c.
Anyway to conclude this, I hooked up online with him tonight
and used a app called VNC to be able to see his desktop
from my PC. I set the files up correctly via the VNC app,
made a new iso, burned it to a CDRW, booted up and ran the
Prepare New hd and fix atributes. problem solved.
Yeaaaaaa!!!!, lol

Once again Failure to follow instructions.
I like Radmin much better than VNC.
Its the ultimate Remote control PC app (imho)
Very very powerful, secure and easy to use.

Thanks for the heads about that app, I will have to check it out.
Is it multiple platforms like VNC?
I stumble upon the VNC, I love being able to help my computer
eliterate friends out without ever leaving my house, LOL.
Thanks agian for takeing the time to reply.

If you want to share files directly between 2 trusted PC's accross the internet
this is the easiest way to do it.
