Title: Slayer's Evox Auto-installer For Xbox
Post by: SlaYer on December 15, 2002, 09:43:00 PM
Look in the usual places (xbox newsgroups - alt.binaries.cd.image.xbox) and grab my new ToolKit and Manual - Do Not ask for downloads or links here or from me by PM!!
SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v.1.5 & Manual v1.0   beerchug.gif

It's the most comprehensive toolkit to date assembled from all the best tools, utilities, bioses and dashboard currently available, all integrated and packaged together with the full 4034 MS dashboard.  It weighs in at 60MB compressed.  I am not taking credit for any of the individual tools, except the way they are compiled, the ease of installation and the manual I wrote.

Features:

* It will allow you to make an EvoX XBOX Bootable CD-RW  that can be used to instantly rebuild the whole XBOX HD, retail or upgraded.  It will allow you in one click to Format it, Partition it and it will copy both the MS files as well as the latest EvoX 1.8.3285 with skins and the most popular apps, including the latest Xbox Media Player v2.0, boXplorer and HDDLoader.

* It can also flash your TSOP with the latest EvoX D.6 or Xecuter2 4974 MultiVer Bioses, with several others included.  Remember that the 2 bridge points need to be connected on the MB for that to work and you'll need a Gen1 Mod Chip.  Something simmilar can be done with the Matrix, look up the info.

* It also integrates the coolest tool from Superfr0, the EEPromer 0.45, that lets you save and reflash your EEPROM, Lock and Unlock your HD (Retail or Upgraded) with a few button presses!!!  But be careful and do not try to lock a v1.1 Xbox with it as it will be rendered useless.

* The startup menu on the CD is self explanatory.

* The whole thing is easily customizable and updatable when the nexGen dash or newer tools come out.

* I've also included a Manual I just made with screenshots of EvoX and a detailed reference to a modded xbox and it's functionality.  It will walk someone through using a modded Xbox created using the installer and it's very detailed but still meant for a beginner.  The MBMP2 manual is also attached as there are references to it.

NOTE: I take no responsibility if anyone messes up their Xbox, so do not use this tool if you do not understand what it does!  The Manual however should come in handy to any beginner.

I really feel that this is a very thorough toolkit and if possible a moderator should please PIN this post so that everyone will be aware of it.  If that does not happen, readers should please reply to this thread to bump it up

Please do not PM or email me with questions on downloads or functionality!
>>>> Version 1.5 is meant for XBOX v1.0 ONLY! <<<<
Post your feedbacks and questions here so that everyone can benefit from the answers!

Thanks and Enjoy!

By formating your harddrive do you mean i will be able to have my normal original xbox hard drive with evolutionx on it and format it to clean it out and then reinstall evox back on again?
if not then can someone explain to me what its for?.............now im off to find this amazing file. biggrin.gif

The toollkit can simply install EvoX and the latest apps, and leave everything else alone ( MS Dash, saved games, existing apps, etc...)

or

It can re-format your HD, new or upgraded, wipe everything and give you a fully functional system complete with apps, EvoX dash, skins, MS Dash, etc.. in 2 button presses :-)

Keep in mind that if you chose to rebuild your HD all save games will be lost so a backup of your C and E drives are recommended, just in case!

Enjoy!

Thank in advance to 1wolf1. I was hoping someone could email me any ftp info that worked for them.

Has anyone heard anymore about the #xbins server being down???

Hope no one crashed it trying to upload my 60MB installer  laugh.gif

Just kidding of course...

PLEASE DO NOT PM or EMAIL ME ASKING FOR IT!   All anyone needs to do is use any newsreader ( I recomend one that supports Yenc like GrabIt or NewsBin Pro) and point it to the xbox forums in the newsgroups.

The main forum is "alt.binaries.cd.image.xbox"  If my installer is not there just post a request for it and myself, Y314K or someone else will re-upload.

If you're not sure what news service to use and if your ISP does not have a good one, try SuperNews - www.supernews.com - ( or do a search in google for "news servers" )

OH, If anyone is kind enough to want to host the installer on their FTP please Email me!

Good luck and please post your feedback here once you've tried it.

gbrandon get off your hight horse m8 ... sorry to say that but it would be easyer if it was on a ftp site ... as some people have never used ng`s . so it would be easyer for people on dialup to get it off a ftp site smile.gif

Not really, with easynews.com and news2me.com, both usenet server providers have WEB interfaces... news2me.com has an outstanding search facility (search for files across ALL binaries groups!!) and is $10/month for 50GB of downloads.

I use both (easynews.com has better retention) and never have to touch a usenet reader.

Even those on dialup can use these two services.... just use a download manager like Getright (the one I use) and it's a lot less hassle then finding an ftp and HOPING it doesn't go down or isn't some ratio-based site, or that it's bogged down with too many users accessing files.

$10 a month, 50GB of high-speed leeching!

Please explain to me how its easier to get a file through ftp than usenet with a dialup rather than on a broadban connection. Is it because you are using a ftp program rather than a web browser? think about these 2 scenarios..

1) for your ftp , first you have to know the filename your looking for, then you have to find a site, (which is what you as well as others are doing right now in this thread) , then start your ftp program on you pc, type the site ip address in, then log into it, do dir listing for the file you want, then transfer the file. (and thats not counting if the sites full, or goes down, or any number of other things that could screw you...)

now, lets look at scenario number 2..

2) start internet explorer, type www.easynews.com, login, go to favorites (binaries.xbox), in the search box type slayer's evox, click the file and its downloaded to your computer.

Now please tell me whats faster?

QUOTE (gbrandon @ Dec 18 2002, 10:27 AM)
Maybe im not getting this right... I made the iso fine, and booted up to it (btw, you should consider making the ip address option in evox.ini default to automatic instead of static. I never changed it before I made the iso and had to keep resetting my pc's ip to switch between the web and the xbox. (my local ip is 10.10, not 192.168). Anyway, it boots up to the evox 3285 dashboard just fine. I can view my ip, go the ms dashboard, pick the rest of the options, etc. But nowhwere do I see a dashboard like other people have (pick game from hd, view dvd movie, etc.) How do I install that part of the dashboard?

Mr.X

Sorry for the confusion gbrandon, but the reason I made it a fixed IP is because most users do not have a DHCP server or a router installed to issue IP addresses to their xbox.   Any advanced user that does have DHCP would also be able to edit the evox.ini enough to turn on DHCP.  By doing it this way I was trying to make sure it works with the biggest install base.

For anyone interested here is the main menu that appears once wou make the UDF disk and boot with it:

               Backup All Current System Settings
   --------------------------
Rebuild Upgraded HD on V1 xbox
Rebuild Retail HD on V1 Xbox
   --------------------------
   EEPromer (Backup and HD Lock/Unlock)
   --------------------------
Flash TSOP BIOS of V1.X Unit (EvoX vD.6_EjectFix)
Flash TSOP BIOS of V1.X Unit (Xecuter2 4974 IGR)
   --------------------------
   MS Dashboard
               System Settings
   Power Off Xbox

I will make an ISO as well and post it and if there is enough demand.  I might even make a DHCP ISO and a Fixed IP ISO.

Everyone, let me know what you think....

When I am in the dashboard and go to system settings, then ms dashboard I get a "your xbox needs servicing messgage".

It's probably that u haven't locked u'r HD yet....  In order for the original dash to work the HD needs to be lock.......  If u have a 1.0 XBox u can use the epromm prog to do it.. (If u got a 1.1 XBox then u will need to do it from u'r PC... the old fashion way )..... wink.gif

Update:  Also make sure the Evox.ini points the the right file name in C:  in the MSDash: part of the Evox.ini...  it should be something like C:\XBoxDash.xbe or what ever name is the originals dash u have in u'r C:

If it's already lock then u might want the overwrithe the xboxdash.xbe in u'r C: to the original to make sure u got the correct one in there.... grr.gif

K...  We would like to find a ftp that can let people direct link to it...  U would just have to click on the link to get it...

If not that then a regular ftp is good for all those that doesn't have a news server that has the XBox group....   A lot of ISP news server doesn't...  EasyNews is a the best alternative for them but at $10 per 6GB is kind of steep...  It's only a couple of rentals in some places so it might be worth it...  Specially since people post games in there too....

We tried to uploaded to XBins ftp server but they were not insterested....  They said it was to big(60MB) and that they already had all the parts(although seperate) in there....  We understand... I guess they can't spare any bandwith....  So we are still looking for alternatives....

If u can't wait to get it........ U might want to log into Kazza tonight...  U might find a good supprise....  wink.gif

U can always get u'r News Server info from u'r ISP provider... but there are no guaranntees they have the main XBox group on them...  grr.gif

jester.gif Never mind.... 1wolf1 got a FTP server....  Thankx  sphere man tongue.gif

Ok.

this is how its going to be.

Im going to reorganis the ftp server.
the only thing you are going to able to download is the slayer auto install.
if you want anything else make a txt document with your name email and what you want. upload it to the ftp and i will see what i can do for you.
ppl who are trying to take more then 1 slot on the ftp will be banned for 24hours.

sorry for the rules but due the popularity of the slayer file there are already over 35 user's on the ftp. 35 users who wants to take 60mb i dont mind that i like being there for other ppl but dont take advantage of it.

My sincere thanks sphere man!

Update:

2 versions of the installer in xISO form have been sucessfully uploaded to the newsgroups in 3 parts each! They should make their way to the FTP soon...  The names to look for are:

SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v1.5 - xISO - DHCP.part1.rar    ...      .part3.rar

and

SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v1.5 - xISO - FixedIP.part1.rar     ...      .part3.rar

These are the same thing but easier to use "out of the box" since all you need to do is burn the iso and boot with it.   More advanced users should still get the original release as it can be edited and tweaked to match your setup a lot easier.  For those using a router or DHCP server the choice is clear.  Otherwise grab the FixedIP version.

Remember to please post your feedback and any help for new users here.

OK, I am going to get some rest now...   sleeping.gif

So It's either a bad Evox file u have uploaded to u'r XBox or u need rename it to YBoxDash.xbe or it might be a bad evox.ini.... muhaha.gif

I am really happy to see all the positive feedbacks, please keep your oppinions coming.  Also, if anyone has pull to get this thread pinned it will make it a lot easier.  Someone, please do it!

Hopefully a new FTP will be up shortly, and many more good things are on the way after the holidays in an updated release, so try to get this thread pinned to find it easy...

you need to copy your original msxboxdash.exe back to the hd, as well as all the files and folders that were created when you installed live. (assuming you backed up your drive before you ran slayers evox installer). Hope this helps. I was having the same problem as you and thats what I did to fix it.

Right now I have the v1.0 xbox and Enigmah chip.  I am going to get a new xbox with the new xecuter2 chip.  I waht to keep the old hd in tact so I will install a much bigger drive.  My question is can I still get to my currect hd from my pc to save all of game saves?  I dont have evox x installed.  It is jsut the standard hd.

Thanks,

Well, I finally did it!  I landed the rar. -still unable to create a succesful cdrw though.  So I figured I'd ask this question before I f'd up.  Can Slayer's util. be run from the cd, or must it be installed?  You see, I'm not to keen on the flashing process, but I know that my x can't be, and I didn't want to f- anything up.  I don't mind the format/recreation of er'ything, but is there a failsafe, or way to get my ms dash back, if say something crazy like a train derails and I lose power during the process?  lol!  I love the idea of getting all those progs on there, but since I haven't been able to load it yet, I was lookin for some insight of the process.  I see several peeps are loving this thing, so I would appreciate any input you may have. wink.gif

The surest way to test to see if the cdrw you created is working or not is try to read it in with windows explorer on your pc.
If you can see ANY files its not created correctly. What I had to do to get mine to work was the following:

1) download slayers evox file.

2) Unzip to a folder (eg, SLAYERCD)

3) d/l a util called isomaker1.1

4) run isomaker and point it to the folder where you unzipped slayers' evox cd. (eg, SLAYERCD)

5) specify what you want the iso called and where you want it saved to (IT CANT BE THE SAME FOLDER YOU UNZIPPED SLAYERS EVOX CD TO!) (eg, C:\temp\slayercd.iso)

6) burn the iso with nero or some other cd burn software that supports iso's.

7) put the cd in your xbox and power on!! Thats it..

NOTES:

YOu do not have to "install evox software to HD" to make it run. It runs off the cd. (although, as far as I know, you have to run evox dashboard from the cd) nor do you have to flash your mod chip bios with it. (I flashed my matrix with evox2.6noanibluered and put it in mode 3 and installed it in my xbox)  To learn a bit how the xbox works, you have to understand that when you power it on, and there is a dvd in the drive, that takes priority over the hd. If there is no dvd, the hardrive boots up with whatever file your mod bios is looking for (eg, xboxdash.xbe, evoxdash.xbe or yboxdash.xbe).
Also, as a added tip, you might want to look at the evox.ini file BEFORE you create your iso. You can modify the network parameters in it  to make it easier for you to connect from your pc.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for trying to help our gbrandon, but eveyone concearned with making the CD-RW work, please remember that I have already created 2 versions of the tool that have ISO's in them and all you need to do is burn the ISO with any tool you like.  If your Xbox recognizes that particular media you use, you will have no problems.

I really wish that people would read through an entire post before asking about how to make the ISO, especially since I've posted already that 2 pre-built ISO versions were already released.

As for backing up your save games and dashboard before running my tool and erasing and rebuilding everything, the Installer CD is based on EvoX so an FTP server is immediately present as soon as the interface starts up.  FTP to the IP on your screen and backup your stuff!

Any more feedbacks from people who already used it?  Comments, thoughts?

Thanks!

on my PAL xbox the default name is xboxdash.xbe not msxboxdash.xbe

Am I missing an obvious point here?

-JamesBee

I simply use the default that EvoX uses.  If you check the release "evox.ini" file in all the authentic releases, the MS dashboard is referenced/called "msxboxdash.xbe"

I did not have time to re-invent the wheel...  biggrin.gif

if you format your hard disks and then only have a file called msxboxdash.xbe then won't that cause problems?

Should their not be a file called xboxdash.xbe?

I can understand why they default it to that on the evox dash as they have to assume alot of people will run the evox dash as xboxdash.xbe and rename the original dash.

Won't this installer cause problems for people with older mod chips?? As the boot will look for xboxdash.xbe and find nothing or again did I miss something??

Thanks

I am sorry to say JamesBee, but you must do a little more reading on the subject.  There a re few great tutorials written about the way EvoX and the bioses/mod chips work.

If you've read my posts carefully (just a couple above this one) you would have read that I have tried to account for most mods/bioses by creating 3 copies of the EvoX dash on the C: partition of the Hard Drive.

Please post questions about EvoX general operation and mod chip functionality in the appropriate forums, after you've read the FAQ's.  I am in now way discouraging you from asking questions but this is too basic for this particular thread.

Good Luck!

My apologies (although I was never critizing your work). It was late and for somereason I missed  the xboxdash.xbe (renamed evox) when I unpacked it. Which of course was my original point that with it missing then it would cause problems booting on older modded systems.

Ok, this is how to reburn these files to disc:

CDRW creators:

- Put a 100 meg dummy file in place
- Create an ISO using the correct utility
- Burn using the FireBurner method

DVD-R and DVD-RW creators:
- Use Prassi to create a new job
- Prassi will finalize the session

It has NOT been tested on a v1.1 xbox and until I do, I do not recommend it.

Remember that it copies the MS dashboard files from the v1.0 xbox over!

The X2 chip has nothing to do with it.

Your guide says you can only put 20 games on the HD. So won't I be able to have 22 games even if I have 30 GB free?

Actually 20 was just a conservative number, you can put as many as you have space.  I strongly recommend you only use partition6 (F:) drive as that will leave your save game data on (E:) with over 5GB of space for all those save games and it also keeps it "M$ compliant" in case they start to check the HD's for non M$ files.

So, any other comments on the Manual?   biggrin.gif

I am sincerely sorry that you did not have a backup.  However I did post strong warnings, both in the comments of the RAR file, and in the NFO, as well as in the final option/ackgnowlegement, before your xbox is overwritten...
More than that I doubt anyone could possibly ask for.

yea, im in the same boat as you tek. as soon as i got a good burn of that bad boy... i installed the program. but hey... wolf...

in the folder SlaYer_s_EvoX_Installer_v1_5\SYSTEM\RETAIL there is a file called msxboxdash.xbe thats not the retail by any chance is it?

and tek... if you do manage to get your hands on this file can you let me know...?

and wolf again... do you plan on making a v1.1 auto installer?

Good call Seye, I've actually had a major HD crash here so my mind must have been wondering...   blink.gif

YES, the MS Dashboard is located under both RETAIL and LARGE on the Install CD!  And it is called "msxboxdash.xbe"!  LOL
Oh, the installer is version 1.5, 1.0 was an "internal" build...   biggrin.gif

As I stated a few posts back, everyone will have to wait till after the holidays for the new 2.0 version...  It will include a software update only option as well as choice of EvoX and nexGen Dashboards along with the latest XBMP2 version and any other cool tools like Team-Assembly's ConfigMagic.  Since none are released as of yet this will take a few weeks...  Also, since I do not have an Xbox 1.1 I cannot certify this tool fit for the v1.1 unless someone chooses to donate one to me for "medical research"    laugh.gif

ok... gotcha wolf. i have a question... if u dont mind answering...

i have evox 2.5 currently installed on the box.

if i used evox dash to flash the bios to 2.6... all i have to do is upload the retail msdash.xbe to the c:\ and then i can install live right? without crashing...?

I am unsure why you think you have to update to the EvoX 2.6 bios and what that has to do with live?
You cannot play LIVE with the mod ON!

As for installing LIVE, it will erase almost all files from the C: and leave an updated dashboard called "xboxdash.xbe" as the main dasboard.

If your EvoX is called "evoxdash.xbe" or "yboxdash.xbe" you will be OK provided that your Bios/Mod chip boots from those files first, rather than "xboxdash.xbe"  (BTW, EvoX 2.6 bios will look for "evoxdash.xbe")

Please read a little more in the FAQ and the LIVE forum before you attempt this if anythnig is unclear.

Good luck!

Hello I had a questions about your auto installer. If I just add more apps to the app folder before I make my ISO and burn it will it install these files too? or is it just set up to install whats already in there. Example if I add xbox watch to the apps folder will it install it on my xbox when I go install everything.

Yes, you can customize the installer to suit your needs... Just add another complete folder under the Apps folder at the same level as the others.  It will be installed along with them.  Alternatively if you do not want something installed just remove the folder for that program from the Apps folder but do not touch the Apps folder itself.  Also, if you REMOVE something make sure to fix the evox.ini files in both the RETAIL and LARGE folders since the link will now be broken.

Enjoy!

P.S.  Please remeber that these kind of questions should be posted and not emailed so everyone can be helped by the answers.

The Installer is meant to boot from CD-RW NOT the HD so it does not matter if you can boot from the HD or not!

How would you be able to boot from a new HD?   That's what the installer does, it makes your HD XBOX bootable...(among other things)

Burn the files on your PC in UDF, or get the ISO version of the installer and make a CD-RW, boot and you're done!

No mod chip blocks usage of the DVD drive!  Make sure to use a CD-RW not a CDR!

No excuses!   laugh.gif

Maybe I said something wrong.  Im going to tell you everything i did step by step.  I put the iso on a dvd-r cause mine dont read cdrw to good.  On my retail drive hdd iwas able to run the dvdr fine.  So now i got a brand new harddrive took out the old and put in the new one one turn on the xbox and all of a sudden i get the xbox service screen but if i put old drive back in the installer comes up fine and my xbox boots right up

That is indeed puzzling and I understand your frustration, but the fact that you cannot boot from CD-RW or DVD-R should not and has nothing to do with the HD.

When the XBOX boots, it looks first for a disk in the DVD drive, more specific, for a "default.xbe" file in the root.  If it finds it, ie a game or EvoX, it launches it.  If there is none, then it looks on the HD for the dashboard.  Based on what bios you got it will look for xboxdash.xbe, evoxdash.xbe, yboxdash.xbe, etc...

You say you got a matrix mod.  First, sorry to hear it   wink.gif   but what bios did you flash on it?

If you're still unable to boot from DVD, place a detailed descriptions in a new post / help message in the mod chips forum.  I am sure there are a lot of people with the same chip that have probably already experienced and more than likely solved this problem.

BTW, can you boot retail games from the DVD?  Post all the simptoms in the mod chips forum!

Best of luck!

Great Utility!

Well, if you cannot lock it it is more than likely that it does not allow that feature.  Retail HD's are usually OK, however OEM versions and specifically those sold by DELL during their promotions cannot be locked.

If you have a v1.0 xbox and cannot lock your HD with EEPromer 0.45 or newer, it is your HD that does not support that feature!

ConfigMagic works the same as EEPromer 0.45, just has more options.  If EEPromer cannot lock it, neither will ConfigMagic!

Try another HD and you'll see it will work like a dream.

Good luck!

I have a really bad problem with my xbox which now loads up with error code 5, this happened when one of my little ones pressed the unlock harddrive option in the Slayers auto installer, i got the cd made from the net ystday and spent all night setting it up and then burning it to cd.

The problem is that i left for work and lef the cd in the xbox, so now someone has unlocked the hardrive and i am unable to lock it as i dont have the harddrive code... I also have a messiah x chip which is very crap... so i cant change harddrives or be able to boot evox from cd again...

can anyone give me advise on how to verify this problem... i have never ftp'ed and am using windows me i dont think it has dos...

My mate has windows me with a dos add on and 56k modem will this help in fixing my xbox...

kamz, the EEPromer 0.45 included in my toolkit uses the HD password that is PERMANENTLY stored in your XBOX, in a chip called the EEPROM.

You can safely LOCK/UNLOCK a HD countless times, because it will just read the correct password form the EEPROM and LOCK/UNLOCK at will.  There is no such thing as a "lost" password!

However, if someone were to mess with the EEPROM and overwrite it with another one, the password will hence change and if the HD was locked prior to this "swap" it will remain locked and you will get an error.  The ONLY way to get that HD unlocked is to restore a backup of the original EEPROM configuration.  Without it the HD is toast.

As I state clearly, I did not write this tool, however I have used it extensively without any ill effects, but if you think you have found a bug, I strongly recommend you post in the "Software Development" forums asking Superfr0 for assistance with his tool.

Also, most mod chips could care less if the HD was locked or not, especially those that support HD upgrades like Xecuter1 and newer.  So if your HD is not accessible and you swear you did not screw with your EEPROM, you could have a bad HD, period.

Best of luck!

My experiences with this utility disc:

Everything works great except the contents of the C folder. It seems that they are from a newer Xbox as the msxboxdash.xbe is 1326KB and the retail xboxdash.xbe from my 3944 and 4034 Kernel systems is 1306KB. I got errors 05, and 21 when I shut my mod off after locking the HDD and trying to boot retail. But my solution was to delete all the files from the C: drive and copy back my backup. Fortunately I did backup the C: drive from a 3944 or 4034 kernel Xbox before running the utility. smile.gif

Other than that small bug, the utility disc is KICK A$$!!

Thumbs up to you Slayer. I wonder how you get boXplorer to run from a script?? smile.gif

oblo,

There are slight discrepancies on the dashboard versions and that is why I have used the one from my xbox a 4034.  I did notice that some Xboxes complain but a very limited number.  It seems to be the most compatible and generic of all.

As I made it perfectly clear, no one should use this toolkit without a backup.  If anyone screws up they xbox because of it, they better have a backup.

This rule applies to anything computer related so everyone shuld be familiar with the backup rule by now...  rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the praise though precisionmods, I apprecaite it.  Check back here soon for news on the new release after new years.

sad.gif   I have read, and followed the tutorials to a T, as far as burning ISO's in Nero, but it won't work whatever I do.  Would now be a good time to try the DVD 'pot tweak'?  I'm pretty sure my Executer2 Lite is working, cos the normal games play fine, and it says Executer at the bottom of the screen on boot up, but when I put in the Slayer iso disk, it goes to the error every time.  I plan on trying different media as well, but it'll be a couple 'o days till I can hit the store.  Thanks!   laugh.gif

Hello,

I just installed a new 120 Gig HD using Slayer's CD tool. All worked well, except that the F drive is reporting only 25 gig of available space. There should over 100 gig available.

I have tryed formating the partition manually using the RAW command from a FTP session, but I keep getting only 25 Gig available.

What must I do to get the entire amount of drive space to be usable?

Drive was brand new out of the box when I put it in.

Thanks

Hi. I installed off of the Slayer CD and it got EvoX installed and everything. However, pretty much all of the options cause the Xbox to restart and go back to EvoX main screen. I mean, it plays my games fine because it seems to be autoloading them, but can anyone help me diagnose this problem? I tried toying around with evox.ini to make sure it was pointing to the right places, but it didn't seem to help (or harm).

Oh, I have an Executor2 Lite.

BIOS Version: Unknown
Kernel Version: 1.00.4973.01
Xbox Hardware Info: 0..003

Thanks a lot for your help!

I was able to do a full intall of a new HD without FTP, of course I didn't have any game saves, slayer's package works fine (thanks Slayer) the only thing I had a problem with was the original MSdashboard, I got one from a very good source (torbotek) I created an extra folder, also added FCE for NES, and MAME, wow I feel like I am 10 years old again. A round of applause for all the ppl that has made all this possible.

PEACE!

Two Question i want to ask:

1. If i install a new HD, will the Slayer ISO do everthing for me. i.e. format the HD, install all        necesarry software.

2. How can i update/install new software.

pico,

Let me guess, you got a Maxtor, right? Well for some dumb reason, Maxtor's ship from the factory with a size limitation jumper set. Remove the jumper and properly set the drive as the Master and reformat and you will get your space!!

Stupid Maxtors. That's why I can't stand them. Western Digital all the way!

hello slayer, i have a quick couple of questions for you:)

i cannot boot to my ms dash.  i get error21 and flashing red/green led.  i hear it has something to do with my evox.ini.  is there anyway to edit the .ini, make another slayer iso with that .ini, and put it in my machine and let it redo my hdd?  i do not have an ftp setup with my box, and (DOH!) i didnt back up my drive prior to installation.

if i unplug my box, or the power goes out, and the clock is reset, how will i adjust the time so my box will work, if i cant get into my ms dash?  am i fuxored?

thanks for everyones help on this,

rusty

ok, i think ive narrowed it down to the msxboxdash file on the slayer disc image being the wrong version for my box.

now, heres the question:  i have 2 or three different ms dash versions.  can i replace the msxdash file on the slayer disc to one of those, reinstall the slayer disc, and trial and error it till i get the correct version?
Title: Slayer's Evox Auto-installer For Xbox
Post by: SlaYer on December 27, 2002, 12:40:00 AM
I have identified the "Error 21" message people have been getting.

It is due to the version of dashboard included with my installer and the kernel version of some user's xbox (embedded in their EEPROM)

There are 5 kernel versions for the xbox 1.0 : 3944, 4034, 4036, 4039 and 4627

For reference the v1.1 xbox has kernel versions 4817 or 4972

My installer comes with the MS Dashboard for Version 4036 because it seems to be the most popular and works with most consoles.  Not only do I not have access to ALL versions but creating an installer with so many options would confuse the heck out of everyone.

I encountered this problem while changing the EEPROM on an xbox and noticed the M$ Dashboard did not work after the update.

If you experience Error 21 after rebuilding your HD with the Auto-Installer, you should try to get another version of the M$ dashboard and overwrite the one in the (C:) drive on your XBOX.   (there are plenty of tutorials on evox and FTP!)

If someone has ALL the dashboards it would be nice if they could RAR them up and post them on Newsgroups.  I would then include them in a folder on the next release of my Auto-Installer so that you can quickly recover.  Please do not upload ALL the files in the (C:) drive, just the M$ dashboard labeled correctly.

I cannot stress this enough: ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL XBOX HD BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING!!!

right... lets start this one again...

My xbox harddrive got unlocked using the eeprom 45 tool kit on the slayer cd... the person who unlocked the harddrive then shut the xbox off.

This has now caused a problem for me as my xbox no longer boots the slayer cd, so i am unable to use the eeprom 45 to unlock it... when the xbox boots it states error code 5 which means the harddrive is not locked...

i have read many tutorials on locking and unlocking harddrives and they state that b4 u can "unlock" it, you need the harddrive "code"... obivously i dont have the code cos eeprom 45 on the disc did it for me so now i am stuck... my xbox does not boot or allow the slayer cd to run unless i "lock" the harddrive... which leads me to my question how can i lock the harddrive when i dont have the code???

is there anyway i can lock it without the code... ps i have a messiah x modchip which does not allow harddrive swap...

kamz, sounds like you're having some problems with your CD-RW media, if you cannot boot from my CD again to LOCK/UNLOCK your HD.
My toolkit and the Eepromer 0.45 do not change your EEPROM whatsoever unless you manually FTP an eeprom.bin file to your (Z:) drive on your xbox and force the EEpromer to erase your current one and program the new one.  As such, locking/unlocking does not make any permanent and irreversible changes.

If however you've found a flaw in the EEpromer tool you should report it.

For now, try different CD-RW media to boot the Auto-Installer and run EEpromer from and just lock your HD again!

No video, just a blue screen and the dvd light blinking away in red\green. Has anybody else blown it and used this tool? Is there an "undo"? I am going out of my freekin mind here!

I *thought* that would be and is a problem.
The M$ dash.xbe must be the same kernal version of the Xbox with "some" exceptions.
Nice work 1wolf1.

This was a point of concern in these forums awhile back.

I tried to build a "universal" recovery disk using the EvoXHD installer
but quickly ran into this problem with between a 3944 and a 4034 xbox.

I though that it had something to do with the xboxdash.xbe version
because there were so many folks deleting their original dash's and requesting new ones.
Often the same user would come back and state that the new dashboard file
they tracked down did not work.

This is exactly what I did. I took the BIOS I wanted to flash my Matrix with, copied it to the Z drive. The eeprommer program found it, loaded it, verified it. I rebooted, now I have nothing. Blue screen with our without mod.

Yup this stuff rocks.....

Made the usual mistake of not backing up my original dashboard - oops - but got it sorted in the end.....

Realised that my messiah-x wasn't gonna let me use a bigger h/d but did the 2 jumper points when mod was installed.

Had better luck with dvd-r as opposed to cd-rw and in the end used both slayer's disc and evolution 1.8458 both on dvd-r
(worth it cos they both booted fine everytime)

used the 1.8458 to get xbox linked to pc with no real hassle, put the msdashboard back on - rebooted - phew the dash i got seemed to work - was a tad worried but live and learn as they say

ok - back to ftp - hmm - ok well got the evolution flash bin file sitting on my xbox's c drive....
re-read all the info I could find - ok here goes and executed the raw flash fxp command....

jeez it may just have worked - tray can open now without the reset, shut xbox off - in goes a bigger h/d - no more error screens
did think about removing messiah-x but it can stay in there for a while....
ok back to rebuilding the bigger h/d - got the proper msdashboard on my pc's h/d still so go for it....

re ftp the old dash back over - reboot - yup all working

now there's a 120gb Western Digital in there all ready to go.....

even just using it on the old standard h/d it is a brilliant utility

saved a lot of time indeed - fanx 1,000,000

Good job and congrats.  I hate to say it but it seems like you like to "tinker" with your xbox and I would highly recommend upgrading the Messiah to an LPC mod that will allow you to use a large HD.  It makes a world of difference!

kamz, sounds like you're having some problems with your CD-RW media, if you cannot boot from my CD again to LOCK/UNLOCK your HD.

1wolf1 a.k.a SlaYer

This is exactly what I did. I took the BIOS I wanted to flash my Matrix with, copied it to the Z drive. The eeprommer program found it, loaded it, verified it. I rebooted, now I have nothing. Blue screen with our without mod.
sad.gif

You are obviousely confusing the BIOS with the EEPROM.  The EEPromer tool only backs-up/flashes the EEPROM and does not touch the BIOS.  If you've flashed your EEPROM and do not have a backup of your original "eeprom.bin" file or another valid "eeprom.bin" file you're toast!

If you do find a valid "eeprom.bin" file you'll need to do the following:

1) SOLDER on a programmable LPC mod (X2 or BioXX)

2) Program it with the Complex Debug BIOS v1.03 (1MB in size!)

3) Boot with my Auto-Installer and via FTP copy a valid "eeprom.bin" file to the (Z:) drive. ( Or use the ConfigMagic tool from Team Assembly )

4) Restore your original/or a good EEPROM to your XBOX, remove the LPC modchip and boot normally.

Good Luck!

ok I have one quick question.   If I wanted to just make a backup of the Xbox Harddrive can I use your CD just for the FTP function without installing anything on the Xbox harddrive?

The reason is I would like to keep the Xbox harddrive as original as possible then after I am done backing up the drive I would install my maxtor 120GB  and install it fully on there

Thank you for your reply

Nate

Sure can, when it boots up it allows you to FTP.  The IP address appears on screen.  However some people's networks were a little different than mine  biggrin.gif  so I made a DHCP version that uses whatever IP your network will assign.

Either way, you can FTP to your XBOX by booting with my Installer CD.

OK, so am I just screwed then? I still have the original HD which has not been overwritted? I did not lock\unlock the drive at all I only ran the epprommer program. Do I take this whole XBOX and chip out to the street and drive over it repeatedly? I realy hope now, can't afford a new one anytime soon  sad.gif

AGAIN, the EEpromer program only changes your EEPROM, NOT your BIOS.  If you messed your EEPROM up and have no backup or a valid "eeprom.bin" file from a friend, you're toast!

Last hope would be for someone here to give/sell you theirs or a spare "eeprom.bin" file from a box they modded.  Ask around, you never know.

Good luck!

Can anyone help with this ive had slayer's installer on my 1.1 and off and back on .
Now the free disc i got with sega gt and jsr wont load either of the games and I cant load splinter cell but it loads halo fine.
All the games are new and worked before, could it have anything to do with the cache as I had some files in the x drive before I installed slayer probably halo.
I wonder if they are blocking the way for other games cos i've changed dashes once or twice.

I thought I made it perfectly clear that the installer v1.5 does NOT support v1.1 xboxes.  V2.0 will and it's coming out soon!

In any case, wait for the v2.0 as it will probably be able to fix your box with a M$ Dash patch.

BTW, what are your

Its just this is a disc with 2 games on it , I was wondering if they boot/cache any different to single one's.
When I select a game it say's loading and thats it .
But halo is quick as yer like and I thought it may be because the cached files on the drive are halo files.

Great, well there is full support for 4817 in the v2.0 installer so you'll be fine.

just back that HD up to your PC before you use it!

What's the ETA on ver. 2.0? wink.gif

A few days....
The scripting is done and is being tested now, however I am still working on some graphics..

Also, if I see any more pathetic posts or PM's asking for it and saying they cannot find it, I will make sure no one will get it and I will NEVER release anything again or provide support it.

People HAVE to understand that it is against the forum rules to ask for links to software.  As simple as that.  I do not want the topic deleted by a moderator because people asked for or posted links!

The purpose of the forum is to discuss the toolkit, not hand it to users on a platter.  If people are not capable of finding it on their own, then they should not be using it as it will probably destroy their xbox and they will be back here 10 minutes later crying and saying they "forgot" to make a backup.

Please do not get me wrong a0lsux, nothing against you, you just asked when it's coming out. I'm, just fed up with nobody bothering to read anything.

Dont lock your drive on the 1.1

From what I understand it will make the hd useless.

I just did my upgrade using slayer last night and what I did was take the orig xboxdash.xbe and ftp it to c:  then copied it to msxboxdash.xbe and ftp that as well to the c:.

It took care of my error 21.

Oh yeah i forgot to mention , i renamed my "RETAIL" xboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe before i ftp'ed it back. So it seems that i have already done this netman , correct ?

Well... locking the harddrive on a v1.1 ? I have read that it is possible in another forum. Can anyone verify to me that what netman say's is true before i go on ?

Actually , let me be clear on this. The only time i get ERROR 21 is when i go to MS Dash with Modchip Bios enabled. I can reboot back into MS bios for original games perfectly.

Thanks,

optical

P.S. s113 , Im pretty sure these are my Kernel and Dashboard version's. Right now i have it apart because i'm going to lock my HD if someone verifies that it can be done to a v1.1 xbox(according to the tutorial on the front page of this forum).

Just a quick note maybe to all the peeps out there that have fitted a bigger h/d to their xbox.....

Be careful about locking ya h/d. I have fitted a 120gb to mine and left it for the moment unlocked coz I ain't worried about xbox live.

If you lock it and lose the unlock serial then you could be a bit screwed if ya xbox blows up...

I have unlocked my old h/d drive so I can use it another xbox or pc even but for now gonna leave my 120gb as it is

Unless someone knows a proper working utility that will unlock xbox drives without the xbox it came out of ??????

Got most of it workin, but one problem.  After I FTP in where do i copy games to? f:\games? they don't show up in the menu.

If you've used an upgraded HD the F: drive is then used for applications and games.

The tool is called Px HDD Loader v1.0a and it creates a folder on the F: drive called "f:\hddloader"
Under this folder it creates a series of subfolders called PxGame0...PxGame99 or whatever and copies a game from CD/DVD there.

If you want to FTP a game in you need to create a new folder called PxGameXX, where the "XX" is the next number in the existing series.  So if there is already 3 games then the folders will be PxGame0, PxGame1,PxGame2 and you will create PxGame3, got it?

Just FTP the contents of the CD/DVD to that folder and both EvoX and the PX HDD Loader tool will see it properly.

Have fun!

So just to recap what has been said so far, am I right in thinking that the 1.5 version of the installer *can* work on a 1.1 Xbox if the following steps are taken?

(based of SlaYer's, optical's and Netman's recent posts).

1. Modded 1.1 Xbox, Evox D.6 bios with virgin drive, back up all partitions.
2. Replace original drive with new drive and boot 1.5 installer
3. Run the option to setup the new disk.

additional steps over 1.0 box

4. ftp back from PC/backup

    default.xip as default.xip
    Memory2.xip as Memory2.xip
    xboxdash.xbe renamed as msxboxdash.xbe

Will this do the trick or does this mean I would still get the Error 21 message when trying to access the original MS dashboard from EvolutionX menu?

Pretty much. here's what you do,

on a modded v1.1 xbox, run a Evo-x boot ISO. Backup your whole original MS xbox HD with FlashFXP FTP. Then , install your new HD and run slayer's installer. Once that is done, FTP the three files default.xip, memory2.xip and xboxdash.xbe renamed to msxboxdash.xbe. Also, if your original HD had "xboxdashdata. 10027100" and "xodash" folder's in your C drive you should FTP them also, in the xodash folder  rename xonlinedash.xbe to msxonlinedash.xbe and and add your Evo-x xboxdash.xbe renamed to xonlinedash.xbe in the  "xodash" folder as well. Plus you should delete the update.xbe file in the "xodash" folder

AND....Last but not least , in your Evox.ini file in the area at the bottom Titled "Section Root" you need to add this with all the other items ;

Item "MS Xbox Live","c:\xodash\msxonlinedash.xbe"

After all this is done you will be able to select MS dash and it will take you to your MS dash. When in MS dash you will be able to select your Evox dash by selecting Xbox live smile.gif Pretty cool huh?

optical,

Thanks for the clarification, that's just what I needed to know. I assume the 'xboxdashdata' stuff is related to Xbox live? If so it's irrelevant to me as ISDN is the best I can get. I have read that certain games like splinter cell copy over update.xbe. Do they only do that if Live is installed?

Finally, to complete the last part of the puzzle, do I only need to lock the HD if I intend to boot virgin bios without the mod chip installed?

No, they only do that if live is'nt installed. I think the update.xbe is'nt needed once live is installed afterword's.

I'm not totally sure about locking the HD and booting a virgin BIOS as i have not done it yet. But...I can play original games with my modchip disabled on MS dash with no problem's. I believe(not sure) that the only time a non-locked HD will give you problem's would be with xbox live.

YES it will work, you are correct.  The trick is just getting the 3 files for the M$ Dash back on.

Version 2.0 coming out this week will support both.  The V1.1 support is from M$ Dash 4817.

If you have a different Dash for your v1.1 xbox, please PM me so I can add it to the installer before I release.  Remember it's the D:# not the K:# that matters from System Info.

I'm a new babeeee, I got xbox with x-cuter mod chip in it and want to install 120g HD all I have to do is take the old or the orignal HD out and them install the new HD with this great Evox Auto-installer and everything will be fine right??? and if I mess it up can I use my  original HD that I had take it out and put it back...... (the original HD was never touch)...

You are 90% correct.  You can boot with my installer CD but before doing anything, back up the original HD to your PC via FTP.  there are plenty of tutorials on this.

Once you have a good backup on your PC you can replace the HD and actaully "run" the installer.  You'll be fine.

Also, remember that if it's a v1.1 or a rare v1.0 you might get error 21 when launching the M$ dash.  To fix that if it ever happends just wait for my v2.0 installer to be released later this week.

Good luck!

I'm, just fed up with nobody bothering to read anything.

so you want the evolution 1.8.3825?

tell me how you installed your slayers evox

booting is not installing. Booting is booting. For me, i first installed my new 80hd, booted up evo x cd, chose the retail hdd option, wait for it to finish, and then restarted. Then booted the evolution 1.8.3825 WITHOUT THE CD, meaning that it's fully installed.

if you want to keep the original hdd, i dont know how to configure that. But if you plan to install a new hdd, then follow my steps.

Hi All!
Ive read this entire thread and havent seen this exactly confirmed ( dccd's post came close however)

I have a UK XBOX v1 with Xecuter1.1 modchip. Its currently runnning EvoX dashboard and standard hdd, onto which i have ftp'ed a few backups.

From the Xbox-scene mod chip comparison page, it says that my Xecuter v1.1 will not support upgrading the HDD...

My question is this:
Does Slayers toolkit get around this by allowing me to flash the Xbox retail bios with an EvoX bios, hence allowing upgraded HDD to work?

If so do i then "disable" my Xecuter chip?

Thanks in advance,

mgf909

1wolf1,

How about adding this to the evox.ini file so we can flash out chip bios.

Item "Flash BIOS",@1

This was the one piece to the puzzle I was missing.

Thanks,
Netman

Already done in v2.0 coming out soon....   biggrin.gif

Is this the same app/tool as this one? http://www.goldberg-...xdownloads.html

No, simmilar functionality (at least in v1.5) but a lot easier to use than the one you reference.
Version 2.0 has a LOT more functionality and supports both v1.0 and v1.1 xboxes.  It will be out soon...

NO, the backup of your retail HD is to protect you in case you get errors after using the SlaYer Installer.  My installer contains ALL the files needed to build a HD from scratch, however there are a lot of different versions of xboxes and not all all identical.  As such I cannot cover them all.  Having a backup will allow you to restore your original M$ Dashbaord for example if you get error 21 after the install.

Also, all your save game progress data resides in E: so I am sure you'd want that backed up.

Lastly, once you remove the retail HD from the XBOX you cannot access it in a PC unless you unlock it first.  and even then you willl have to reformat it as it is incompatible with PC Operating Systems.  So you MUST use FTP to get your adata out first.

PLEASE read all the posts in this thread BEFORE attempting to use the installer.  Almost all possible issues have been covered already.  Good Luck!

There are several tutorials on flashing the on board bios of your XBOX, called a TSOP, but they require you to bridge 2 points on the motherbaord, one in the back and one on top.  This is not for the faint of heart  wink.gif

The Xecuter 1.0 or 1.1 however are LPC mods and do not allow you access to the TSOP so you can flash it.  Best bet is to get a BioXX or X2Lite, since both can be programmed v easy.

Personally I found the BioXX easier to use.

Of course.  Just make sure that you do not modify your BIOS or EEPROM.  All other modifications are made only to the files on the HD, so installing your old HD back will work just fine!

laugh.gif man i must say that it some impressive work u have done there with the slayer installer,i installed an 80gig drive and all seemd to go well untill i clicked to goto the m$dash and got the service error screen,so just copied the original m$dash(alwayz got a backup) and happy dayz, all seems to be workin now with the dash etc.....

but 1 thing i did notice was that when using xbcopy it said the games was copied to e: but it dont show in the menu as a game on the hdd,so i used xboplorer to search e: and found it there, clicked on the xbe. file and the game loaded.....so i thought maybe it was ment to be on f: so i deleted the game and dumpt it to f and same result...didnt show as a game on the hdd in the menu but it however was on the drive......so i deleted the game again and used the hdd loaded and bingo...the games was now showin in the menu as a game on the drive.....so i was woundering y xbcopy doesnt show the games as playable frm the drive as in not showin in the menu section but yet the hdd loader does,is it just a matter of redoin the ini file to make xbcopy point to the drive or????

and i was woundering if u where goin to add emu's or other goodies in the v2 of the installer and if not is it easy to just add the correct folders, set it up in the ini file and happy dayz or not?????

Version 2.0 is a massive improvement and will be out very very shortly...

Unfortunately I will not be adding emulator support as it will make the installer too big and harder to download.  As it stands it's over 61MB with MAX compression and over 175MB as an ISO

I was not game enough to install the apps and had been waiting for a tool like this. Great work bloke

A problem or two....

When I try to go into xbox menu settings through evo it goes to a flickering ntsc screen (this is a pal xbox) and the hd led is just flashing red/green.

Also is there any way to play dvd movies without the DVDX2 ? I already have a dvd remote, but with DVDX2 the remote is disabled.

This is the most stupid one, how do I just boot back to the original Xbox dash?

Now you can just chose the file you need the checksum for and paste the approperiate checksum into your .ini file.

Note that all the names listed above are they way they come directly out of the zip (and rar) files. You can change the name of the files to whatever you wish as the actual checksum is based on the content of the files and NOT the name of the file itself.

Can someone explain what it was that Netman posted (ROMs ??)
and how are these used.

ROM
These define different BIOS versions and their CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Check – for verification and the like [and that is as technical as I am getting on the subject]). The structure is as follows:

ROM = “”,””

example:

ROM = "EvoX 2.0",0x76fd88337b8d8c1f116f85f3984b98b6

Flash
Similar to the ROM parameter but this defines flash parts so these can be displayed as well. The structure is as follows:

Flash = (TBD),"",

example:

Flash = 0x01d5,"AMD - Am29F080B",0x100000

Current
Simply used to tell EvoX which version your BIOS is for display purposes.
BIOS and information about the ROM files available for flashing.

I can still run this if my drive has been hdpreped right?

YES
The tool will format the drive and create the directories it needs for the install, hdprepair will have no affect on it.
Just install the drive in the Xbox and run the tool.
If you are not in a big hurry to do this right away, V2.0 of the installer will be out shortly.
Features are more defined and strait forward. I personally recommend you wait for V2.0 of the installer.

   "NO"
You must use FTP to copy off the files to your PC. The installer has no place to copy files to because the drive will be formated prior to install. You need to back up at least C: and E: I suggest all of them should be backed up.

All tests are complete and the files are being compressed as we speak into 3 pieces about 21MB each!

Archive is a RAR and includes authenticity verification.

Distribution filenames are:

SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v2.0.nfo
SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v2.0 FINAL.part01.rar
SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v2.0 FINAL.part02.rar
SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v2.0 FINAL.part03.rar

Files will go up in YENC format so make sure your newsreader supports it!

Actual release will happen in a few minutes, but please keep in mind that news servers take a while to distribute files so be patient. If you do not see this after a day or so, simply post a request for it in the "alt.binaries.cd.image.xbox" newsgroup.

Oh, and Please DO NOT PM or EMAIL ME ASKING FOR IT! muhaha.gif

Slayer, is it possible to set up an ftp link for this version like the last. BTW version 1.5 was a work of art, I'm very excited to see how the new better version works.

Unfortunately, NO.  It is against the most basic rule of the forum.  You do not want them to get shut down, do you?  Because that is what will happen if they have links to stuff like this.

As for v1.5 being a work of art, thanks, but brace yourself and call me Michelangelo cause you'll be blown away by v2.0 biggrin.gif

Check it out, through thye link below, and if you read carefuly though both my initial post and some of the early follow-ups you'll be able to get software to locate it quickly.
