Title: Pssst. Hey You! Do You Dvd?

I used DVD Decrypter to unlock the ifo and vob files and copy them to my hard drive. Then I used Nero 5.0, Data DVD. Under Edit--->Properties, I see: DVD-RM (ISO), ISO Level 1, ISO 9660, Joliet is checked on the Misc tab, Cache Disk - and Network files is checked, Cache files smaller than is checked, the entry field is at 64K.
But XBox did not recognize the disk. This disk plays fine on my pc under both WinDVD and PowerDVD. My goal was to make a backup playable on both the xbox and standalone DVD players.
I am using a CenDyne DVD-R/RW burner and Memorex DVD-R media.
Do I need to change then entry field to 128K? Will a movie backed up like that play on standalone DVDs?
Or should I keep it as is and try and use a xbox media player to view it? (I was trying to use MSdashboard and got the "cannot read disk" error)

P.S. I used vobsplit.exe to chop the end credits off the 5th vob file so it would all fit onto my backup DVD

Any extra room on your HDD?
If yes, do what I do:
Decrypt with devd.
Compress with Flask (mp4,divx)
Multiplex with virtual dub.

Put several movies on one disk, or just ftp to your drive.
I have several on my HDD, and they play like a charm with XBMP.
(nice quality too)

Thanks, but compression is time consuming and I was hoping to have them playable on standalone dvd players.
Anyone know if xb media or another player will play backed up dvds from the xbox drive WITHOUT ftp? I cannot ftp in either

I have the same exact question. I would like to play backup dvd's from the xbox hard disk. All the files get copied successfully but there isin't a software to date that can play the DVD from the hard drive. Maybe the new dash neXgen would have this feature.

I think you're looking for a program like http://www.dvdxcopy.com. Unfortunately, that piece of software creates a DVD disc that is region free (or region 0). The Xbox will not play DVDs set that way. Maybe in their next release.

You don't only have to have the vobs but the ifo and bup files as well, if you rip some parts off, you will have to use ifoedit.
guides are at Doom9 everything you need to know is there

You'll be able to play the dvd's in any player, but its best to use R media and not RW, as it is more compatible :)

It would be nice to have a VOB player for the xbox, as it's quicker to rip the VOBs then to compress them.

I know I could be missing something here, but why would want to kill your hd with 4/5 gig VOB files (per film) ?..when you can store approx 8/9 films in divx format for the same space, (that's approx 2 films per gig).

I can try and understand if it's just "preference" and the quality ;) .

I think svcd is your best option because it has higher quality than divx and it can be played on man standalone dvdplayers. The advantage of divx is you can get greater compression. But I never thought it looked as good. Again I mention dvd2svcd and cinemacraft encoder.

...What??.. I disagree, I've seen some *QUALITY* DiV-X movies, ripped and non-ripped!, much better than your average VCD-MPEG!.

Encode the same movie with divx, then again into SVCD format.

SVCD looks better, but at the cost of space.

Yeah ? ... so would the divx movie if the right compression is chosen (of course!, at a cost of space..)... ;) B).

Honestly I think anyone that is experienced with both formats knows that svcd does look better. There will never be a console dvd player that plays regular divx files. Maybe a newer divx codec but not the codec all your movies are in. Ah but thats why we mod our xboxs :)
