Ok guys, i am running evox bios 2.4 and the new dashboard...

I'm using WS_FTP to copy to & from the xbox, guess what the
speeds are now? Around 60Mbps (this is around 7,5 Megabytes/sec),
go and download ws_ftp, and try it yourself! (With flashfxp it was around
1,6 Megabytes/sec)

Regards,

Alfaromeo303

                                    what is your setup?
I've tried with WS_FTP, still 1.6M/sec.
Did you have to go and do software setup?
I am using a Negear router and 100Mb network.
Thanks

I tested it and I got the same speed as flashfxp anyone else test it? and where do you check the speed on that program from what I seen it shows you how fast it is going in bytes so it appears to be going super speed but it is really only going 1.6mb/s I think he just seen the bytes going so fast so he thought it was super speed lol

You find a lot is down to the size of files too.
I downloaded DOA3 (4.5GB) in 7 mins and today it took almost 8 mins to download Turok which is only 2.7GB.

DOA3 just has 25 files were as Turok has hundreds.

I read today that if I go into the network card properties and change the transmission setting to 100MB full duplex, it will fly. I am still at work so I am going to try when I go home

I assume you are talking about changing over to full duplex on your PC network card?

Any more info on this will be appreciated. Thanks!  rolleyes.gif

Well guys, full duplex make a real difference but it is the new evox dash that allows this.  Let me explain:

I was using the same exact hardware and configuration and connected to the xbox via a Cisco 100BT Switch.

With the old EvoX dash I got one connection at just about 1MB/Sec

With the new EvoX dash I get 10MB/sec on a single connection and have not changed anything!

I am really happy and impressed with this speed improvement in the dash.  I believe that since most people that have tested this before had 10BT, just a hub or were set on half duplex were not seeing any performance improvements and assumed the new dashboard was the same.

EvoX, please keep this up, you guys Rule!

no actually it doesnt matter if u have a 10mb or 100mb card, because the nic card in the xbox in 10mb, so stfu smile.gif

The point I was trying to make is that the new EvoX Dashboard FTP Daemon is Faster!   That's it.

Enjoy!

Note to self.....if using a 10 base hub do not switch to full 100mb full duplex

Thought my hub was gonna explode.....

Guys this is queer, when I switched nic from half duplex to full duplex my speed dropped to ~ 30kb/s I was getting about 1000 KB/s before. What am I doing wrong? Btw I am using two nics in my computer with crossover cable.

Right click "My Computer" go to properties , click on the Hardware Tab then click on "Device Manager" then you will see a list click on "Network Adapters" now all your network adapters should be right under it the one you need to adjust says "Ethernet Adapter" somewhere in the name right click it then go to properties then click on the Advanced" Tab and where it says "Value:" is where you change it 100BASETX Full_Duplex then click OK

well dry.gif  when i changed it to 100BASETX Full_Duplex i couldn't connect to the internet anymore! why? i had to restore it to automattic again! sad.gif  well anyways i'm gonna test the speed! so if it's worth then i wont mind changing the settings everytime i connect to the internet or to the xbox!! i'm using a switch!!

NOT TRUE!

The Xbox's Nic is 10/100mbps.

I've verified this using an intelligent switch.

The Xbox can do EITHER.

This stands to reason, since MS would want to cover their collective tails, and the price difference to bump up to a dual mode nic is almost nil.

For it to work you have to have your xbox directly connected to your ethernet card using a Cat5 with Cross over cable works for everyone I know only people it doesnt work with is people with hubs and stuff

If it was me when I am gonna send games to my pc from my xbox it is worth connecting it directly saves you ALOT of time in the transfer" then just switch it back to your hub

Also, when you post your speed, post which mod you have installed.

This is pure speculation here... but I have a feeling that the Xbox Hard Drive cache is not quite what we expect from our super PC's...

When sending files from the XBox to PC (either from the hard drive or DVD) the speeds I get are normally around 6000-9000k/sec. However, when I send files from my PC back to the XBox hard drive, the speeds go anything from 600k/sec to 1200k/sec.

I can only guess that the write cache on the xbox hard drive is almost none-existant... after all, why would MS bother with it, when by default, the drive is only meant for saving a few bytes of save games at a time...

Anyone else get this conclusion?

Regards

Yeah, you are right about that cache! The drive specs say 256k.

My PC has 8megs per drive, let alone the software cache.

Also I'll bet the Xbox has little packet buffering, unlike the PC.

wait 112Mbps or kbps? and I average 2.5mps d/lon large files and 500k on upload. I have executor and a 80gig 2mb cache maxtor. Also I have my setting on auto detect and I am running through a hub.

yeah I am not sure how people are surpassing this speed....makes no sense why speeds would go faster using a crossover cable. and when I set the ethernet up to 100_base full duplex i lose net conection. maybe I should try it while not conected to net via hub.

On a side note has anyone tried to connect to their xbox via net. that is not being on the same hub or switch what not?? and if so is their any known vulnarability to leaving it on the net?

First of I think a crossover cable "should" be faster.  However if I think the other way it should be the same...however.. everything MUST match I would think...10/100 HUB AND CARD.

Next you loose net connection because your ISP does not allow 100 speed.  You must connect as a 10,  at least this was the way AT&T is right now.

Last.
I brought this issue up once before.. about being vulnerable...
if you connect you xbox up to a hub and share internet connection...
all someone has to do is scan and come across your XBOX's IP address.
if you have it connected with evo dash GUESS WHAT.  depending on your evo dash version all I have to do is connect anonymously to port 21 xbox IP and I see and have delete access to EVERYTHING.

Now that is what is good about newest versions ...
they allow passwords in ftp!!!!!
