Title: Possible Hard Disk Or Power Problem
Post by: Matty^ on August 24, 2005, 06:41:00 PM
I have an xbox with the x3 chip installed. It has a Seagate 120g hard disk in it
When i turn it on it boots up to the xbox screen and gets nothing more. I had loaned it to a friend and have been told that at one stage error 7 came up on it.
I have the front panel with the lcd, hard disk and lan lights on it also.
I took the cover off the xbox and turned it on. the hard disk light comes on and stays on but i cant hear the hard disk power up. I plugged the hard disk into a computer and it powers up and detects ok.
Where can i go from here?!?

Check your connections and see if it is a cable problem on either the power or IDE.

ok....
1. Plugged computer power supply into hard disk and it spins up ok. 2. Plugged IDE cable from xbox to hard disk with computer power supply. Wont spin up but makes a small noise when you turn the power supply off. 3. Changed hard disk to a 40gb and same problem happens. 4. Checked all connections inside xbox and all are plugged in.

Sounds like a possible IDE cable problem.

you can if you want, but that would be a waste in my view, if you didnt fix your current box.
i still belive that the problem is the psu not functionign correctly. i think you shoudl try to get your hands on a new psu before you buy a new box
