Post by: cadman on August 08, 2002, 08:18:00 AM
No. Don't format X or Y... leave them like that. I have seen a driver for the X-box HD. I will post if I find it again.

AFAIK, you can zero out the xbox hdd (like you did when you prepped the new one for the swap) and then fdisk it and use it in your pc..

Personally, I'd just leave it untouched and virgin in case you ever have cause to put it back in the xbox..

CABLE SWITCH TRICK:
a.Plug a power plug from your pc into your xbox hd and fire up your computer.
b.Right when it starts booting up, start pressing the Pause Break key and do not let it detect your drives.
c.Make sure the IDE cable is going from the xbox to the HD and turn on the xbox.
d.Wait for the Xbox to get to the dashboard (fully booted)
e.Unplug the ribbon cable that is going from the Xbox HD and replace it with one that is connected to your computer.
f.Now, press a key (some times CTRL-Q is needed) to allow your computer to continue booting.

U have to do that sincer the xbox hdd has a password that gets unlocked when xbox boots up.

Not that this trick will not work, but more of a word of warning. Be very careful when doing this, it is VERY easy to corrupt sectors on your hard drive by pulling the IDE cable out when the power is running, and it is connected to the system. You can fry a HDD easily believe it or not.
