Title: 120 Gig H/d For The Xbox
Post by: rzyzzy on July 31, 2002, 08:08:00 PM
According to Pricewatch ( http://www.pricewatch.com/ ), IBM 7200's are the cheap ticket, $133 shipped -
I spent a few extra bucks and got a Western Digital 5400 rpm in a retail box (longer warranty) for $153 with Fedex shipping  (here - http://www.compu-terra.com./ )  I got my price on the phone ( 800-345-8880 )after mentioning Pricewatch

M$ used WD's in the launch-day XBoxen, so I figure they can't be too bad...

Should be here early next week, I'll let you know how it goes

As for heat, I have been paying close attention to mine, because part of the reason I went with a 5400 is heat.. I can honestly say, even after 6+ hours of use, there was no heat able to be felt extrenally from the xbox.. I can place my hand on top, right above the had and it's cool to the touch...

So you may wanna consider 7200, it seems to be a safe bet.

I also have an IBM 120GXP 120 GB hard drive in my xbox.  I have all the emulators and roms for nes, snes, and genesis and about 10 xbox games on the drive and still have 88GB left on the F partition alone.

Which partition are you suppose to put your games on?  I've heard both E and F... I'm a little confused.

e is generally used by people who haven't swapped the hd, f is used by those that have. (f is where the new found space of a bigger hd shows up)

E go to harddisk on evolutiox that will tell u the size of it

i have divx player with 8 films 30 games video mode mame and lots more but my hdd gets very hot u can feel hot air at the back some one told me about a water cool thing u can use to keep it down  anyone heard about it?

What size and brand hdd are you using? Just curious. I'm running an 80gb IBM 7200rmp, but I've only had it installed for a couple of days so I can't really say that it's not going to get me in trouble.   dry.gif
