Title: What Does The Backup Feature Do?

now it is sitting at a screen with a bunch of text and at the bottom it says   making compressed image of C:   (this may take some minutes-DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR XBOX...)   now it has been about 15-20 minutes, does anyone know how long this will take?  What exactly does it do?    Any help is greatly appreciated.
