Title: Need A Board Fixed..
Post by: majik655 on April 23, 2003, 07:03:00 PM
Seems I have a motherboard here that when hooked up will make the dvd drive constantly eject over and over in out in out not even getting all the way ejected before going back in etc etc..

the reason I say it is the motherboard is because EVERY possible piece of hard ware has been changed out.. and the motherboard is the only thing left that can be causing it.

There are no shorts and the xbox acts normal modded or unmodded.
it is now UNmodded .. x2lite wires  removed.. and still acts normal except for what the dvd tray is doing.

I am hoping someone could fix it for a reasonable price.. hopefully not more than another motherboard.

Please let me know.

Thank you

Sounds to me like  the dvd drive thinks it's not closed when you start up your xbox. So it then atempts to close it self by ejecting the tray and then close again. But something is causing it to not eject all the way. I bet there is some thing inside the drive obstructing it causing it to think it's not closed in the first place.
I would pull the drive out and take it apart to see if anything is in it causing it. Be careful though. There's alot of small moving parts and gears in there. wouldn't want you causing more damage to the unit. I've done many dvd drive repairs (ok, four), where people have damaged the pot by tring to tweak it. You've got to be real careful when you get inside that drive.
If you need any help just email me. I'll do my best in answering you.

the drive works fine in another xbox.

AND

a different good drive does the same thing on the "bad" motherboard.

so it has to be the motherboard.. not the drive.

I thought there was something wrong with the drive at first too.. thinking something was causing that.. but it isn't  sad.gif

thank you though..

haha I do have a thompson that I did a screwed up pot tweak on.. might need you smile.gif

Just want to make sure you changed your ide and yellow ribbon to make sure thats not your problem either.
If thats not the problem then yes, your mother board is the problem. But hey you already knew that.
Woundering if the mother board had a bad solder job?

yeah I did try the cables also..

and no it was NOT a bad solder job.. meaning there are no joining solder connections..

hell you can't even tell there was a chip on there at all.  D0 is perfect.

as I said the xbox acts normal besides the dvd tray..
I don't think even if it was a botched solder job on the lpc points or D0  ..
it wouldn't do anything with making the xbox eject over and over in out in out lol

Thank you though..
it isn't worth fixing.   Could just use no DVD patch on bios lol
