Can you use any USB "Thumb Drive" with a usb to xbox cable as a memory card?

If you mean as a memory card within normal retail Xbox games, then no. I guess it's possible that homebrew stuff could use such a device, but it would need to have special coding to do that - it wouldn't work 'out of the box'. Xbox Linux might work with one too, if it had the right drivers.

im just trying to figure out the differnce between mega x key and just getting a thumb drive off ebay cheap because mega x key seems to be a thumb drive with there logo on it

It must be 32MB - their s/w will only recognize 32MB drives.

Anyone tried it?

I have one Mega X key and they work fine, Like a memory card.

I can transfert savegame in msdashboard, and acces it with ftp.

But I can map it in XBMP
