i got my 360 on around august 2006 and man i still cant beleive it hasnt died yet i bought a ps3 incase it decides to soon but man this thing is probably holding on by a thread with me not knowing when its gonna die out but hey the 360 did me good and so is my ps3 and i have that hitachi drive still lol not sure what board model

EDIT: lmao totally forgot our gamercards say lmao its a xenon and its been my only 360 so far so i put no hasnt broke down on me....yet

1 Xenon Arcade box died only last night, this is after little use as it is my second box.
Zephyr Elite still going strong (for now), will probably get an arcade jasper when they are out.

if I do ill just get replacement Elite sell it and then get a Jasper Elite I'm not to bothered to be honest I don't play on my 360 much anyway.

I have the Xenon and have had one RRoD and five system crashes recently with Rock Band 2. Originally with the RRoD I added a fan on the CPU and just recently a 50 mm behind the DVD and so far no issues.

now personally Ive had like 3 die on me but iv fixed like 5... I dunno if there so easy to fix tghen why dosnt m$ just fix the xclamps before they ship em?... I know what your thinking more money right? Then think about there 1 billion in losses from there repair sevice...

Out of all the broken 360's I've either repaired or bought for parts every one of them has been an Xenon. I've not seen any of the others with red light faults only dvd drive issues.

Second Xenon - my downgrade-test-linux box is with E74. Most harder to fix but will be fixed in my free time

I play my xbox without the shell and I got it 3 days after launch and have never had a problem. I fix alot of RRoD. And from what I can tell, if you smoke in the house or if you keep it in a entertainment set... You'll have problems. I own 3 xbox and I de-shell them all!

I am on my 4th deck. I believe it is nearing the end of its life also as it frequently freezes with extended gameplay. Hope the 5th time is a charm. My nephews lasted three months and was purchased last summer. A good friend of my is on his 4th deck as well. And one fried of mine trades his deck in when there is a price or hardware change. He a got a new one with the first price drop and then another when they added elite with hdmi and his are doin ok but technically he's on his third.

No smoker in the house. sits on a glass shelf by itself nothing within 8 inches of it approximately 2 ft from a sliding glass door that keeps it cool.

Blu Enigma de-shelling them is saving them by dissipating the heat not not having them in an entertainment center.

I got my 360 from the Mountain Dew Every Ten Minutes contest on the 19th so it was one of the very first ones and it has had the RROD twice. about 2 months apart from each other while playing COD

I got my Xenon 6 months after launch. I got an Intercooler the same day. I ran it for 1 month then got a Whisper fan, heatsinks for the memory and bridge, and did the RBJTech cooling mods. It ran perfectly for 10 months, then failed. I took a 1 year break from society and when I came back home I got a Falcon and did the same cooling mods to it. Its been 5 months now and everything is good. I can run games for hours and the GPU heatsink is only warm to the touch, CPU heatsink isnt generating heat at all.

when i first was trying to get a 360 in the winter of 06 i think i had 9 or 10 in a row that had the RRoD. Some were ruined right out of the box, others took 1 or 2 days to eff up. I swapped them out, then got exchanges and went to a different store, same luck. Then the 11th one RRoDed on me a few months back, so now I have one with the Benq drive(newer) and hopefully wont conk out on me.

I'll just point out that most people who think they have a Falcon often don't - many equate the Elite to the Falcon without checking the power rating.

You MUST have a power rating of 175w on your 'brick' to confirm that it's a falcon.
If it's 203 - it's a Zephr.

Owned a Xenon - From launch date and it died years ago. So I bought a new one and it came with a Falcon; However, this one died too (less than a year of use). I decided to buy a RRoD kit and settled with the one from llamma (nuts + bolts _ Bought 4). Installed the kits and they both work perfect. However, I only tested to see if they played games and turned them off. In the meantime, im going to buy cooling kits to (like the talismoon fans) to help reduce heat.

1 Xenon = normal RROD, xclamp replacement works but it needs a fan replacement if it's going to last.
1 Xenon = possible condensation failure, RROD, xclamp replacement failed.
1 Xenon and 1 Zephyr = ANA chip failure, will be heatgunned once I get an infrared thermometer.

I have 2 Xbox 360 consoles, both Xenons with MFG dates around March of 2006. So far, 1 has gotten the RROD just recently and I am going to do one of the X clamp fixes. The other one is still OK, but I'm expecting it to fail at some point.

Damn, this is a way worse statistic than the official one, this is a failure rate of like 70%, the official one is around 30%, looks like the failure rate is a lot higher than that.
If this is reliable, not every thrid xbox fails, it is rather like that every third xbox doesnt but 2 out of three do...

i have a launchday console, i give it 8 to 10 out of 24 hour use almost every day.tho i have had the rrod it was the powerbrick that caused it. i do have a 6 inch 120v fan on the side of the case right over the cpu/gpu,and if i forget to turn it on my box will overheat within 30 min. with the fan on i can run it all night, and not have any problems at all. im kind of waiting to see if they solve the heat issues before i buy another one. if they dont my next box will be watercooled.

Had a November 2005 360, shit the bed after a year. Got it replaced, then got E74 in July 08. They replaced the motherboard (I think), we'll see.

No RROD but the ANA chip will fail again any day now,

was getting blue artifacts in dark areas then MASSIVE video glitches upon boot, sound worked okay but video output was glitched to hell and back, looked like an NES game that wouldn't boot (rember those?).

Towel Tricked it back to life, but I got MS on speed dial for my coffin just in case!!

My Xenon has failed. I've managed to get it to randomly start up if it is cold to the touch, but otherwise, I get a red ring of death.

Unfortunatly for me, I installed of the xecuter mods for the DVD drive, but never ended up using it. I guess I'll hold on to this box for a while. I've already ordered a (hopefully v3.1) new elite from Amazon.com, which should be here by Tuesday or something.

I've had this box since May of 2005 (does that sound right?), and haven't had any problems until today. Then again, I didn't really play many games up until Halo3 came out... then rock band, and most recently rock band 2...

I've had 4 Xenons get it, two of them I fixed with lawdawgs tutorial, the others just suck weener. Wouldn't have hurt M$ to put a little more time an effort into the cooling and quality of these bricks they gave me.

My Zephyr RRoDed about half a year ago, I'd imagine I had it operational for about 1.5? years or so. I hardly used it though. One of my least used consoles actually. Now that I think about it, it may be a Xenon (manufacture date is June 2006), but it doesn't matter, it's dead now. I did the x-clamp fix, which worked for maybe 3-4 months. Recently, I tried doing another fix but I permanently screwed it up by scratching some traces. I'll probably get a new one in maybe half a year or so.

My 360, with production date 12-4-2005 died on me yesterday. At first I had only regular screenfreezes. I called the supportdesk and they told me to unplug everything and start it up again. How stupid, after I reconnected my harddisk I suddenly had the RROD. It's leaving for repairs today.

yes. i just bought a xbox arcade 5 months ago and already got the E 74 error (one red light) sent it off today. shit is pathetic how crappy the xbox360 is. i waited a long time to buy one because of RRoD problem and i still get a shit box. should of bought a ps3 i guess but i love the 360. i wish microgayness would man up to their shitty hardware and fix the problem right.

i have had 5 rrod most v1 maybe some v2, i now have a 07 elite that is runng perfect. some of the rrod boxes had 12v fan and they all had talismoon blue led fan

I have a 5 month-old Falcon with 20gb hdd and haven't had any problems with it so far. I am using it with a laptop cooler however. Without the cooler the bottom gets very hot.

It's interesting that according to poll there are 79 people that have had a RRoD with Falcons but no-one seems to have commented into this thread about their Falcon failing?

Wow... this is a great poll. I don't know if this has been spoken about, but it gives a much more realistic picture as to the percentage of 360s that actually break. At this time it's 100-32 = 68% 360s break. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

Now I'm sure it's not dead accurate, but now we can understand the lawsuits a bit better. Pride before a crash ms... you had your chance to admit the design flaw a long time ago. X-clamp FTL.

My falcon is still working great after 9 months. It sees alot of game time. I have a stand with 2 fans that blow in the bottom and a built in AA batery charger. When i remember to turn it on. Fingers crossed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

My Pro still works fine, it was the first one with HDMI, so I really don't know the version, but never an issue, however my Elite dated july 08, just RROD this morning!! And I really don't play all that much, the Pro model went to my son and he plays it all the time, still perfect. I'm kinda pissed about the Elite, I bought it thinking it would be better made, guess not, time to call MS for my coffin as well.

I've had 2 Xenon RRoDs, 1 was shipped back under warranty, other one died when the warranty expired (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

3rd Xbox was a Xenon too.......it didn't RROD, it simply lost it's video signal permanently. So now I got a new one, with the unflashable Lite-On drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) But you should see the improvement on the heatsinks!! The CPU heatsink is twice as big as the Xenon's, the GPU heatsink has another added mini heatsink, the CPU is now smaller die, 65nm.....so it doesn't use up as much electricity, the power supply is only 175W compare to the 203W original monster. The whole system runs a LOT cooler and quieter. I just really hope the drive will get flashed or somehow modded soon.

It would have been nice if there would have been mobo based "NO" answers too. That way we could have determined how many percentages of falcon boards have failed etc. Now we only get the data of how many falcons have failed from the total ammount of every x360 sold (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

V1 Xenon console.. dated 2006-5-13 got it third hand.. or 4th.. was purchased originally from a used game place then sold to my cousin, then i did a head rebuild on his supra in exchange for the console..

but anyway, so far no problems.. fires up and boots fine every time.. samsung drive, seagate(bleh) HDD, and currently stock heatsinks.. i have talismoons, put AS5 on it, and used a combination of x-clamp replacement methods to make for what should be one ultimate replacement technique.. hoping having the heatsinks bolted down will prevent the RRoD since it hasn't happened yet.. thankfully

Well i voted yes on the Falcon, however it was not a classic RRod. I had the e74 error caused by the ana/hana chip separating from the board, which is the same thing that causes the RRod. I had my 360 for about 7-8 months. With about 3 1/2 months of heavy gaming, and the rest very light gaming. It had ixtreme 1.4, and is on its way to the repair center w/ an intact warranty sticker. I'm waiting impatiently for most likely a lite on drive

IMHO...i think the red ring is a little overrated, ppl act like you get it all the time but me and none of my friends have ever got one, I know there are people that get it but i believe that its not as big of a deal as ppl make it out to be. (just my opinion)

I've gone through 4 xbox's 2 of which were zenons and 2 that were zephyrs.
Yet I still don't understand why I keep buying them. My last RROD is all tricked out with fans and a new heatsink for the GPU , and magically their are no more problems with it. It's funny what a little proper cooling does for these POS's LoL.

So I have a july 07 Zephyr, one of the first premiums to have HDMI.

now the GPU has pretty much failed completely, either no video signal at all or an extremely glitched out screen.

Sound works fine, go fuckin figure.

MS says that general video hardware failures are only covered for one year and won't repair it under warranty because its NOT an RROD even though my issue is caused by the exact same factors that produce the 3 rings.

Bastards!!

I think I'll call back and say that I have an RROD, they might replace it regardless.

I had the Xenon which RROD'd sent to MS. Which when I received gave it to my nephew....I bought a RROD xbox360 for cheap....Zephyr...has RROD'd but did the xclamp trick...and haven't had problems since.

On a side note....any word on when Jasper have been seen out in the wild...or when they will be shipped?....or even the Vahalla chips...but I think odds are better on getting a Jasper one.

I have had 2 falcons due to a trade, one was mine and one traded for a bike. I sold one of them to a friend and he got band after I told him not to go online with backups because his brother did it anyways, then about a month later he told me he got the rrod, I felt bad about that. Mine is still cranking along though. Really sad to see more yes's than no's in the poll (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I've had it on 4 Xenons. 2 are fixed and running great (fingers crossed and knocking on wood). 1 seems to be ok after tightening the screws (forgot to tighten them the first time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) ). And 1 piece of !#@%$ won't stop Rrod'ing on me. I stopped putting it back together. I'm going on my 4th or 5th fix for this one. It's killin' me! Thanx Microscrap!

I bought an Elite (Zephyr) in July 2007, got the RROD 4 months later, they sent me a replacement (Zephyr) after that and it began artifacting a couple months ago so I went ahead and bought a new arcade (Falcon) and slapped my 120GB HDD on it.

More to add, fixed a rrod falcon right on the spot at my birthday so we could continue playing after the other kid had to leave (actually fixed prior that week as well) That falcon had one f**ked up error code, you would press sync and eject and it would keep saying 0 or 1 and would never go back to the rrod once and a while it would give others but almost would never return. I took my chances and it worked, although we had to overheat in the process and we thought it was screwed because it took almost 20 minutes to overheat so we boiled some water on the gpu sink for fun. After it cooled down and after the strangest error codes we had it worked. Go figure. I think the other kid had Zephyr but I am not positive, broke while we were flashing, go figure but it all turned out good in the end.

got a launch 360 from e10m and a second one when cod4 came out as my launch was MIA.. finally got my launch 360 after it was transported from minnesota to oregon to ontario then home... i was very very suprised to see that it wasnt rrod after that

i already voted xenon but i just got a jasper today.

i was really excited until i did some testing and found the the gpu actually gets hoter (or at least dosent stay any cooler) then its 90nm counterpart.

this is starting to make me think that M$ will never make a console that dosent have the root cause of 3rlod (i.e. overheating).

I got my Xbox 360 back last week. Apparently it was something they could fix, because I got the same one back (same SN). I peeked inside the case, and I still see a copper pipe, so it looks like I didn't get an Opus motherboard.

On the positive side, they renewed the 1-yr warranty. They were also "nice" enough to give me 1 month free of Live Gold. Sheesh.

Wow. This has been up for a while now, and the numbers are pretty much the same. I still think that the 1 out of 3 people whose 360s didn't break, is because they just haven't played it enough. Unless of course, they already removed their x-clamps to begin with.

My Xenon is better than ever since I fixed it's 3rrod error. It's now been played way longer after the 3rrod, than before!

I have a launch console and still no RROD.
I take it apart regularly and clean off the fans and heat sinks to prevent dust ruining the cooling ability. It's surprising how quickly they clogged up when the console's used so much.

I've learned that leaving my Falcon 360 on 24/7 in standby mode keeps the system working. Even if I only turn it off for a day or two, when I try to play it games will freeze and then I will get Red lights. Somehow leaving the system on standby 24/7 sytem works all the time.

Have my original Xenon..... had a 3 RRoD at the beginning.... managed to fix it by pressing on the heatsink

.... it eventually gave out on me and brought it to my modder for repair(issue was RAM chip zapped). Fans are now tweaked and drive is flashed. Has been going strong for awhile now(knocks on wood).

My falcon just died today. Bought 4 months ago. Very light gaming use, about 4 times a week, never more than 2 hours each time. No freezing before, no error messages. It was working perfectly and then POW! a rrod out of nowhere.

Yup my Falcon 360 just failed, getting Error 74 and checkered graphics all across the screen.Was used heavely, average 6 hours a day.Always in the Horizontal position.Called M$crosoft and got my UPS shipping label its going back to meet its Maker. Hopefuly I get back a Jasper or maybe a Opus. I bought it on April/ 2008 and it was manufactured in Feb. / 2008.
I'll report back as to what I get back!

A friend of mine did this successfully with his rodded falcon 360 and it's still working perfectly 6 months later. Let's see how long mine lasts. Crazy fickle machine.

I just found out that my HALO 360 has a Zephyr board which kind of sux. Then again another box I cannabilized had a falcon board and 3rrod twice and now it's just a brick(0001 secondary code). The HALO version was even manufactured before the other box. JUL 07. KNOCK ON WOOD.....

i had one go 0001 the day after i got it, psu was fine so i figured a capacitor blew (M$ likes pushing the limits of capacitors), we probably wont see major error codes for another month or so and not in big numbers until the end of the year atleast, still i think jasper should be added to the poll

actually no, your xenon psu can power the other 360s. older psu's can power newer consoles, but not the other way around.

This new one is literally twice as loud as my old xenon. It's like a god damn leaf blower. And every time I switch a weapon on fallout 3 it hangs for half a second unless I do a hard drive installation (my old xenon could switch weapons without freezing at all)

Are there speed differences in the various dvd drives?

Got my first RRoD the other day - launch day Elite (Zephyr, I think). Showed no signs of problems until the graphics (colour) messed up. Plugged my PC in to check that it wasn't my monitor, and after putting the VGA cable back in no video signal was picked up at all. It took a few days of trying to solve the problem before the RRoD actually showed on my console.

I got one of the early Elites (Zephyr) and it RROD'd on Christmas Eve. A few days before I got mine back my friends Halo Edition RROD'd (also a Zephyr). Funny thing, I got a different refurbished machine built exactly a week before my original and my friend got his console back.

I only have had one RROD so far and that was on my V1. Luckily it happened a couple weeks before my warranty ran out so it was replaced. I probably would have got one on my other V1 but I traded it in for a V2 Halo 360. I now have two V2 360's one is US and the other is JP and both have been good to me.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't see it addressed in the thread... How do I find out what build my 360 is? I know it came with a 20gb HD, wireless controller, and has the chrome disc tray face... I also know it's got the heat pipe extension on the gpu sink, and a 3 pin fan clip instead of the 4 pin that was on the fans I bought.

I had my launch system for 3yrs and 2 weeks, and just recently got the RROD

. I was considering on doing the X-Clamp fix, but I am not to sure. Part of the reason why is that the last step usually involves overheating the system for 20mins and letting it cool down for 20mins (Towel Trick) so I am wondering if just opening the 360 and unplugging the fans would do the trick.

Has anyone tried this before. and also how long has the 360 lasted before it got the RROD again.

I got the RRoD 3 times with a Xeon. The first 2 times I was able to return it under the Bestbuy return policy. This last time my protection plan was up so I took matters into my own hands and fixed it using the screws method.
I read an article that Microsoft said the newest hardware will not have the issue.

Well.... my old x360 died but not from rrod... the ANA chip felt down (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) ... after that i tried soldering it and than i finished up with the good 'o' electrical tape (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) it works sometimes....

The new pro one (60gb..) has never suffered from anything (yeah it's 23 days old ...) except a voided warranty (i flashed it 2 hours after i bought it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleeping.gif) )

So yeah... i'm pretty happy with it (for now... it has a falcon mo-bo (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif) i wanted a jasper, but hey... buying a fuck*ng arcade just cause you wanted a jasper (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif) think NOT

I do console repairs for a locally owned video game store and I have yet to see any version of XBOX 360 that won't red ring, including elites and ones with the revised heat pipe heat sinks. Whether or not this is the fault of dumbasses throwing it in an entertainment center to bake itself is unknown, but either way I repair at least 2 or 3 a week.

I have an Zephyr Elite and last week I got the 1 RRoD (e74 0102). I almost took the matter into my own hands but glad I didn't b/c MS announced that this would be cover under the 3 year warranty

4 xbox 360's. FOUR. 4th just got RROD. I had to pay for first one because that happened early, before they extended the warranty. and they want me to pay for this 4th xbox 360 replacement because the first xbox360 i purchased was when it first came out, 2005, so its out of warranty now (3 year). I have a Xenon that has given me the RROD about 20 different times. 1st time brought it back by removing Xclamp and replacing thermal paste, lasted about a year. 2nd time brought it back with 12v fan, fan shroud mod and credit card pieces. Now I just over-heat it (by unplugging fan) and it usually lasts about 1 week to 1 month. But I have been able to bring it back like that every time.

Also have a Falcon that I bought right after the last price drop, no problems there.

i had a xenon about 5 times, all rrod, then i had a zephyr and it lasted for a bit, then i just got rid of the problematic zephyr and bought a brand new re5 le jasper and i love the machine its so quiet and cool.

Had a Xenon and sold it after it froze twice playing GOW and Assassin's Creed. I was in Korea at the time and had a bunch of games and since they were mostly region 3 I sold them as well. The guy paid 450 bucks for it even after telling him it froze twice. I just bought a Jasper. So technically I answered "no" but I think that Xenon was going to bite the dust. This Jasper is quieter by far, but the disc drive is driving me insane! I am not a PS3 fan or anything, but really it is MUCH louder than the PS3. I guess it is the difference between BluRay and DVD, but wow, I feel like I live next to an airport! My old Pioneer on my 2003 PC doesn't hit notes that high.

Got 2 died xenons i tried to fix with no luck and 1 xenon i bought second hand that lasted 1 month.. one of the previous xenon i try to fix worked for 5 min after the x-clamp fix.

Got a RROD once. After shutdown and waiting an hour it was working again and it never returned. at that time I dint knew what it was and dint read a lott of it on the xs forums.

ok i made a mistake lol i picked my new console its was the Xenon (v1) the at i got the RROD 3 years after i bought it.

(I picked my Falcon (v3) lol this console runs fine loud dvd drive but runs great.)

have a late 2007 falcon (elite)- bought it new last year around September probably - have had it for less than a year.

It went rrod last week

- xclamp fixed it, it worked, then got e74
- did bake trick by unplugging fan - and that fixed it for maybe 6-8 hours, then the whole screen goes all Matrix with green sh*t running down the screen. (yeah i deserved that, its actually quite a stupid thing to do when you think about it - especially since the system is on)
the next week consisted of:

open,bake,close
arrgghh
open,rebake,close
arrrhh

finally i removed the heatsinks, cleaned the chips - baked with a hairdryer over the gpu for 5 mins, gave it a perm etc. yeah, i dont have a griddle, heat guns or any such thing at all from youtube vids, this is as suburban as you can get)
--zalman thermal greased it (didnt have arctic silver on hand) and its back to working like normal again.

gave it a 16 hour marathon on star ocean - no matrix, no glitches no problem.

yet

if it fritzs again, ill just buy a jasper and a lian li case for it, cause yeh, after seeing the gpu heatsink, honestly i can't see why it didnt rrod much sooner.

i was also very dissapointed with my 360. It's a zephyr and I half expected it to red ring after some time.

I had it for almost two years. It was a microsoft refurb when I bought it and I thought it would have been fixed but I was clearly wrong.

I did the xclamp fix, it worked for two weeks. Then it ringed. Reheating got it to only work for minutes. Don't think I'll bother to fix it again I'll just get the jasper.

i'm not sure of my version, I use my 360 a lot no issues, bought it in Aug 2006 Hitatchi drive, just replaced the drive last week due to unreadable disc errors, with a drive that was manufactured in feb 2007 hitatchi.

Only problem i've had so far, thank god.

Got one on my falcon a month ago and thought wtf?. switched it off, changed the location (front of an open window) and the rod was gone, but i got no picture and no sound. after a couple of minutes i figured out that the hdmi-port had died ;( now using a vga-cable and no problems since. suggestions on how to revive my hdmi?

and there should be an option to add a vote to this poll everytime a box got a rod. i have 3 now und voted only for 1 (i think)

My Falcon has RROD'd twice.

First 'fix' was the memory chip heat sink 'penny fix'.

The one I finished yesterday was a hybrid x-clamp removal hack (through-bolted the sinks to the outer shell). I hope that lasts longer than the penny hack, which was good for about 3 weeks.

I voted Opus but I think it is actually a Jasper (or maybe a Falcon - in retrospect I probably should've checked that out before voting and posting - doh!). My g'friends son has had it just over 12mths (so warranty was out) and it stopped reading disks. After some hesitation I opened it and tweaked the laser (as seen on Youtube) and it worked a treat! But within a week got the dreaded 3RROD constantly for about 24 hours (would not boot at all - tried it numerous times). After reading up I went to check the exact code (before pulling it apart again) and it is now working fine again - wtf?!? Oh well, shouldn't complain I guess, just have to keep my fingers crossed. No doubt its only a matter of time though!
