Title: Making A Slimbox, And I Have A Few Questions
Post by: Bomb Bloke on June 05, 2010, 08:58:00 PM
You would be best off hardmodding your console. You don't need to buy a modchip for this; anything prior to a v1.6 can be TSOP-flashed for the cost of a few millimeters of solder.

Once this is done, the drive locking requirement is removed, and it becomes much easier to install alternate DVD drives. Note that only original X-Box DVD drives will read retail X-Box game discs, with the exception of a rare few that can have their firmware flashed to gain that capability (though I doubt any of them count as "slim").

It might be worth turning your current internal PSU into an external one.

Thanks for the response, I decided that i am going to just make the existing PSU external, but i want to see if i could make that big bundle of wires into some kind of plug, i haven't thought of anything yet, so it would probably be a more permanent connection.

Also, thanks for the hardmodding option, i am going to look for a tutorial for that, but put a link up for anyone else that might be interested. Same goes for the DVD drives.
