Title: Samsung Dvd Drive Stuck
Post by: MaTtY323 on February 10, 2010, 10:18:00 AM
Hello, i recently received a couple xbox 1 consoles, but all of them have the Samsung DVD drive Model SDG-605, Part Number: X00603-006 and all of them get stuck when i eject them. The only way i can get them to open most of the time is to give the xbox a hard tap, or leave a disk in the drive. I have looked at tutorials to open the drives up, and i gave them a clean with compressed air, but no good. So i was hoping someone could explain why this is happening and possibly offer a solution. Thank You

I had this happen to my Samsung drive as well. There's a little white lever the unlocks the drive tray. For some reason this lever doesn't make it back far enough to unlatch the drive tray. I added more lube to the tray to make it slide easier, but it didn't work. I wasn't able to figure out how to fix it, and my dvd drive just gave up reading any kind of disc recently. I'm guessing it just a built-in defect that you'll have to work around or buy a new drive.

Either the drive belt is stretched, or the magnet is a bit too strong, or both. Have a look at this post for some possible solutions.

Heya thanks for this, i know about the drive belt, but this magnet, were is it located? Im going to buy some replacement rubber bands and give that a go, does anyone know the specification on the bands?

It's a small anular magnet around the centre of the DVD spindle. It's really obvious once you take the top off the drive.

You can weaken the magnetic bond by applying a tiny piece of electrical tape on the center of the top spindle.
A bit more permanent fix is to mask off the top spindle so you expose only the center part, then spray a layer (or 2) of clear coat on it. Once dry, your tray should work again.

Those are only temp fixes as the drive belt will continue to wear out and stretch more.

You need to buy a replacement belt. Visit studiosoundelectronics.com and get one.
I don't recall if they are SBS 2.0 or SBS2.1 (guess wrong and it will be too tight).

If they have the belts for the 360 drive in stock,  get one of those since those work just fine on the xbox1 sammy drives. beerchug.gif

If you live in the US I will sell you one dirt cheap. I think I have a few around here some where.
