Title: Replacement Hd Questions
Post by: litspliff on September 04, 2011, 05:26:00 AM
i got my first ps3 to play with this weekend (late is better than never, i suppose).

the unit powers up okay, but stops with an "incorrect HD" error.
i opened the hd bay to find that the drive is missing.

can i just use any 2.5" drive?
do i need to format it first or do any other preparation to the drive?

PS3 can use any 2.5 inch drives. You just have to format it with the ps3 itself using the system menu.

right on. i've got an 80GB 2.5 SATA laying around here somewhere.
i might have to "fabricate" a mounting bracket though....
is there somewhere i can pick one up on the cheap?

thanks for the info.
hopefully that's the only thing wrong with it.
