Title: Upgrading Hard Drive Witch Way Is Better
Post by: joemama on February 03, 2020, 10:46:00 AM
I'm Upgrading from a 250GB to a 500GB WD5000JBRTL.  There are only two ways I can upgrade since my pc has no IDE and I have no space on my hard drive to ftp all my files over. I want to know witch way will give me less problems in the long run?

I'm going to either use SlaYers 2.7 to install a large hdd and then use XBpartitioner 1.1 to reformat the whole hard drive with 32k clusters.  or

Use  Xenium OS 2.3.1  Hard Drive Upgrade Wizard and then use XBpartitioner 1.1 to reformat only Partition G with 32k clusters.  Witch way is best?

The way i did mine was i used slayer's disc for the install and then
just used XBpartitioner and formatted F: with 32k clusters and put
everything on the F drive. Not really sure how your going to transfer
all the data from one drive to the next. If you've got a friend with a modded
xbox (chip or TSOP) you could just put the old drive in there and
transfer all the old files through xbmc.

Once you get around to running XBP, you can resize the F/G partitions however you like (regardless of how you initially installed/partitioned the drive). This is assuming your BIOS supports custom partitions, of course, which it'll need to in order to install a drive of that size.

Anyway, if you want to go with both F and G, then split 'em evenly so they both come in under 250gb (meaning no 32kb clusters will need to be used). I think you'll find things easier if you just go with a single F partition, however.

I have to use Xenium OS 2.3.1 Copy Partition to transfer all files to my new hard drive. So I need to have F & G partitions. My bios worked just fine with my 250gb hdd IND-Bios 5003.

I used xbtool and set it to F takes everything above the standard partitions up to 129GB \ G takes rest

Will I have any problems moving files between Partitions formatted with 16k clusters and Partitions formatted with 32k clusters?

Nope. Same as on a PC, clusters are more or less transparent to the user (the file system deals with 'em for you).

Yes.

Though why you'd want to use that scheme is beyond me... Anyway, just remember that formatting a partition also wipes it.

If you're going to perform the copy after the format, make sure the copy function copies the files and nothing else.

DAM!  the  Xenium OS 2.3.1 Copy Partition option does not support the  G partition.  grr.gif   I guess I'm going to have to get a new hard drive for my PC. Maybe a nice 1 TB drive and FTP the files over that way.
