Okay, so I found the answer to question 2. Seems as though 5400 RPM and 8mb cache should be fine. I was advised by a somewhat reputable source that these specifications would not make much of a difference for PS3s, but I just wanted to confirm it.
I am probably going to attempt to replace my stock 20gb PS3 HDD with teh 500gb I just got, but I need to find some tools first. I guess I will post when I get the results. WD Scorpio drives should be compatible with PS3, I am assuming..
