I've been fixing XBoxes for a long time and finally decided to take the plunge and repair PS3's. I did the whole "reflow" bit with a heat gun set to 300 degrees C and reapplied some AS5 for thermal paste and that seemed to do the trick on a PS3 with the YLOD.
If you've tried everything else, this is a relatively quick and cost free fix.
