If you ask me, I think the whole Blu-ray disc drive could be bad.

Reformatting the HDD would not do a thing, since the HDD is used just for game saves, game data, downloaded games, Music, Pictures and video.

you could try adusting the potentiometer, i had a similar problem with my xbox
