Title: Can I Safely Remove The Small Fan From V1.0 Xbox?

Recently that small fan in my v1.0 xbox has been making lots of noise. The fan is on the smaller heat sink so I assume it's for the GPU.
I've noticed in other boxes I've opened there is no fan. So I'm wondering if it would be safe to just yank the fan out or if I should replace it.

The other boxes have a larger heatsink in place of the fan. You can remove it, but you'll either need to replace it or add a larger sink.
