Just to let everyone know who has XBOX 360 USB SPI NAND READER with the 12Mhz crystal,
You can use the nandreader to hack the ps3.
Here a simple instruction set:
1) Download compiled code for pics 18F modified for USB SPI here.
2) Program the usb spi, following the following instructions Start at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface "
3) Download Stealth Backup Manager. MOD EDIT: Link Removed, copyright code.
4) Copy Manager.pkg corresponding to you onto an external drive. (Formatted FAT32)
5) Go to your PS3 and do a complete power cycle. (Turn off completely with switch on back.)
6) Plug in your USB SPI, turn on the switch in back.
7) Power on your PS3 and hit the eject button immediately. (This is the part most people mess up.)
8) If you did it right, you will have two folders on your XMB. One that says “Install Package Files” and another “/app_home/PS3_GAME/”.
9) Plug in your USB drive with the Manager.pkg file. You should now see it in the “Install Package Files” folder. Run it. You should now have Package Manager installed. Once installed remove the external drive.
10) Insert your original PS3 game and run Package Manager. It will ask you whether you want to load it or back it up. Back it up!
11) After a few minutes you’ll have a copy of the game showing up. Select it and it will load it to the XMB menu. Screen will go black and kick you back out to the XMB.
12) On the XMB Hit the game icon and you can now start enjoying the backup copy of your PS3 game.
The stealth backup manager uses COD Modern Warfe data I believe, so you might need to delete any games saves or data associated to the game before installing the backup manager. Please note an original game in the ps3 is always required to run a backup. It does not matter which original game.
Instructions are provided without guaranteed or warranty.
Please visit the following thread for support and information.
PS work is not mine, just providing info, thanks goes out to those people who made this possible.

2) Program the usb spi, following the following instructions Start at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface "
shows for 360 drive reading jtag
do you still have to go through atmel flip program to write to it. how i do i get back to writing to 360 again.
make it universal for both !
thanks

Post by: Looouky on September 07, 2010, 10:23:00 AM
This has nothing to do with atmel at all, or the flip program this is to use the device that is know as the 360 USB SPI nand reader as a PS3 Jailbreak solution by reporgramming the pic using MCHPFSUSB v1.3 also referred to as PICDEM.
Did you actually go to the instructions and read them starting at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface" obviously not. Oh if you want the functionality of reading the 360 nand again here are the intructions for people who can't put 2 and 2 together.
2) Extract Files and use the PICFLASH.hex file to program the nand reader, instead of USB SPI HAX.hex. following the following instructions Start at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface "
PS I am not sure if you read correctly though I am not the developer. I am just an individual providing information, but thanks for grinding me.

uh...what about online play? you get banned from psn or something? I really dont care about ps3 anything at the moment(still trying to catch up dreamcast and ps2 stuff lol) but I just wanted to try it out. I do play games online and probably wont take the chance if it gets me banned or something.

you can not play online as this needs fw 3.41, and you need 3.42 online to play.
The xbox xperts should work as long as the xtal is 12mhz, which I believe it is.

1) Downloaded PICFLASH_v3b_plus2
2) Extract Files and programmed the PICFLASH.hex to the usb spi
3) then i loaded the USB SPI HAX.hex and attempted to flash over the original picflash.hex when i did this errors came up and i chose cancel (used picflashes settings)

I'm a moderator on XS Filter - 062508 - filtered.s. I did a preliminary test and it appears to be working. My PS3 is arriving on Thursday so I will be able to do a comprehensive test.
I am also planning on testing to see if it can be flashed back for NAND dumping.
Please PM me for a status update.

New version PSGrooPIC-V1.2b1-PIC18F2455.zip , compiled by MetalPhreak from psx-scene. Thanks goes out to him for thinking of us spi owners.
Also an ps3 ftp server has been released so that you can transfer files to it via a client.

I'll have a full tutorial written up tonight. I apologize on his behalf for dismissing your findings.

right now i have the nand x from team xecuter, i will probably just buy the spi flasher from XS Filter - 062508 - filtered.s to support them and that way i dont have to go flashing my programmer back and forth
i assume, we flash the ps3 and then remove the programmer similar to the jtag hack? or does it need to plugged in all the time?

that will probably work as well, anything that usb spi flasher will work as long as you use the right for xtal. You can always flash it back if doesn't .
and the device needs to be plugged into the ps3 at all times.

i don't think the nand-x works for this, I am not sure what components it uses so I can't say for sure. Yes it has to be plugged in to the usb port at all times.

most of the pic development happens on a mexican site so you might want to check it out, since I believe your primary language is spanish.
can't say for sure unless you tell me the mcu on it, but i think it is doubtful.
Just to let everyone know, the spi has to be built according to the following schematics. Most are made like this. I think nand-x and maximus are the exception. I could be wrong though, from there speed I have a hard time believing they are based on pic. Another thing to note is that those two products were commercially manufactured which means their code can not be change, unless xecuter and maximums built-in a means for the end user's to update the device, which is very unlikely.

On the picture of the bottom of your nand flasher, If you look to the left there are 2 pads that come off pin 3 on the chip, If you bridge these together it will be in bootloader mode.

Only issue i have come across.
Method 1 Boot console then press eject. Console is in debug mode. Shutdown console from xmb. Boot console then press eject. Console freezes.
Method 2 Boot console then press eject. Console is in debug mode. Shutdown console from xmb. Unplug the power cord from the wall. Boot console then press eject. Console is in debug mode.
For some reason I need to unplug the console completely before trying to boot it into debug mode.

That's how it works. You always have to unplug the power to the console. Turning it off via the power button will still keep it on standby.

yes. you can use the same file. yes that will work. that device is to flash other ics, I don't think that will work. No nand-x support. xbox-xperts, they might be sold out. Might be faster and cheaper to build one, like most people did. It really easy and takes about 30mins.
Ahh that would explain it. Thanks pure3d2 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Wish they hadn't removed the power button from the slim!
The way I'm gonna do it is by just flicking the eletrical plug switch on and off. But of course if you have a bunch of devices hooked up then you're out of luck (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

found in the zip file of 1.2, i'll link it again for you. Here. can't say for sure unless you tell me the mcu on it, but i think it is doubtful.
Also the Maximum 360 Nand Flasher chip says: LPC2146FBD64 SUO251.1
No idea what does this mean. if anybody could assist, i'd very much appreciate it. thank you

Hi, wich are the differences between the hex of the first post (link) and the groopic hex v1.2??
Should I re-flash the pic in order to update with groopic v1.2 hex? Wich are the advantages?
I'm using 18f2455 with the first hex and it works. Where can I insert a led? I think that I have to put the led between pin 22 and 19(GND).
If I use groopic v1.2 hex, should I put a led between pin 26 and GND (I found it in the groopic blog)?
Thanks

Ok I just want to make sure I've got this all down before I get my USB, I ordered one frome DIYGadget. I understand everything that has to be done, its just getting the chip ready, I know you go to the instructions link, and go to the "Prepare TIAO USB" section, now thats where Im a little confused. Do I perform every step in that section, all the way up to "Prepare XBox 360 for Flashing" and then I know from there I flash it with the .hex file in the link provided by Imrickjamesbitch. Thanks for any help
Edit: a tutorial showing you what to do with a fresh USB would be nice.

You follow every step except use the hex file from the link you mention, start from where you said and stop after you completed the step that says:
Load HEX file
Then, click "Program Device" button:
An error will show up and you click cancel, that is it.
If you download the following file, there is a readme. The readme has the basic instructions laid out for you as well, if you want to confirm the steps. You can also use the 12mhz file included in this zip rather then the one rickjames mention, the only difference is who compiled it.
The steps are really easy, I can't be more descriptive than the wiki or the readme.
The usb you bought I don't think is fresh, I believe the bootloader is already on it so it would be useless to you.

For me, it works 100% of the time. I've built and tested 15 units and all of them worked on the first boot attempt. You just have to hit the eject button as soon as you hit the power button.

For some reason im getting "USB read failed" "error 997:Overlapped I/O operation is in progress"
I had just used this flasher 30 minutes earlier to dump and flash freeboot to a falcon 360 , so i know it was working.
Im not sure what i have done wrong.I am using a 18f2550 with 20mhz resonator so i used the PSgroovpic 1.2 for 20mhz and after loading hex in pdfsusb i select "no" and press program device...then get that error.

I try the first post hex and it works on the ps3 fat with 12 Mhz resonator. What about ps3 slim?
I have read some posts about psgroopic: it seems not to work with ps3fat and slim using the same quartz. I mean with 12 Mhz it works on fat but not on slim, and with 20 Mhz it works on slim and not on fat.
Some feedbacks?

Maybe the file in the v2.1 package cannot be flash by USB? should I use the pic programmer?
Are you talking about the PSGrooPIC-V1.2b1-PIC18F2455.zip file link earlier in the thread?? If so those were compiled by metalphreak and he uploaded the incorrect files, they were a bad compiled. He re-released them compiled correctly, and iLLness compiled a version of 1.2 as well.

There is cold solder joints everywhere on that board. You should tin both ends of that wire before soldering it to pins 17 and 19.
Looking at that flasher closeup ive seen better soldering on a breadboard .
I would have expected better from a etched design.

There is cold solder joints everywhere on that board. You should tin both ends of that wire before soldering it to pins 17 and 19.
Looking at that flasher closeup ive seen better soldering on a breadboard .
I would have expected better from a etched design.
So the bridge is correct? pin 17 and 19 should be the bridged ones?
Also what do you mean by cold solder joints? The board seems awful indeed, I would have expected better quality for this 20 bucks board. Thanks for your response btw.

Cold solder joint is when you solder two points together but the connection is too weak for a signal to pass through.Think of it like a car not starting because the battery terminals are not tight enough, so you tighten them and your car starts. What i suggest is get yourself some flux and put a tiny bit on each end of that wire, then melt some solder onto each end. Then touch each end to pins 17 and 19 and put some solder on your iron tip and touch the tip to the pins. You should get a good connection that way.Try not to touch the iron there for more then a second or two, or you risk damage to the chip.
And yes as far as i can tell those pins are correct.

ps I am not sure if this one is compiled for spi yet, you could give it a try.
LVL2 Peek/Poke commands are allowed (aka the geohot stuff). Change for 1.3.
Seems you also might want to reset the fuses in the bootloader.
QUOTE
w00t. looks like i figured out my LED issue. the bootloader. appearantly the bootloader you flash needs to have the NOMCL and NOLVP fuses set as flashing the psgroopic hex over USB it doesn't matter what the fuses are if the bootloader is wrong.

Did someone understand wich pins should be connected to led?
I confirm that with v1.3 Metalphreak's 12.hex it works. And the led works too.. nice flashing during the boot. I have put the led between pin 22 and 19 (18f2455).

Looouky if you ever find a hex that works with the led on the DIYGADGET USB SPI utility please post. I've tried about 10 different hex files and neither affect the LED and make it flash etc...Not major I just don't like the led burning 24/7 while my ps3 is on...
Thanks!

does diyagadget use the darkstar's diagram? If yes then you have to use the last hex of metalphreak i have posted.
The led works (pin 22 -> 19).

There is zero chance of this being possible. The jailbreak device isn't a usb flash drive, it's a usb microcontroller programmed with the jailbreak software.

hey guys question here so if I use metalphreak's version of the hex, am I supposed to do something with the for the boards with bootloader installed.txt. Or can I go on and just flash using pdfusb.exe, the 12mhz crystal as long as thats the one that my board specifies when I receive it in the next few days.
Another question is it ok, to leave it plugged into the ps3 all of the time, will it cause damage leaving it plugged in? That may have been a stupid question, But I am definitely going to internalize this and then see about where to put the led to indicate that it is working. Thanks guys, Just asking all of these questions that way when I receive this I can just go and get it done.
By the way right now I'm running psgroove through my Evo, But its not very convenient so I am definitely looking forward to getting my chip in the mail. . Then after that theres only one more thing to wait for Ubuntu Linux and XBMC Then My dreams will be fullfilled

If the flasher already has the bootloader installed, then you just need to use pdfsusb. I don't see a problem with leaving the device connected since it's a bus-powered device anyway. Once you turn off the PS3, then it will cut the power to the device.

Hey there, can someone please confirm i done the right thing?
I just purchased the "Mini USB Development Board - PIC 18F2455" from DIYGADGET from the link below:
Now i assume when i receive the board, i just need to jumper the device (would a hard drive jumper work) and then install the appropriate firmware for the board with psgroove, as it already has it's own bootloader preinstalled?
Once this is done i should be able to plug the device into my PS3 and it should be jailbroken?
The reason why i ask is because i see alot of members posting pics of schematics and i hope theres no wires or soldering involve when i receive?
Thanks in advice!

A hard drive jumper would work, but the device already comes with its own jumper (which is the same as what a hard drive jumper would be). You can see it at the top of the picture above the microchip and to the right of the crystal (the silver oval). You'll be able to program the device over USB and won't need a separate programmer since the bootloader is already installed, and you won't have to do any soldering, but you'll have to provide your own mini USB cable. After programming it with the appropriate psgroove .hex, then you'll move the bootloader jumper so that it operates in its regular mode and then follow the normal jailbreak procedure (unplug power from back of PS3, plug jailbreak device into USB port, plug power back in, power on PS3 and quickly hit eject button).

I made the mistake of ordering another chip that didnt work based off some guy that didnt know what he was talking about. Plus it was twice the cost of one of these. Im in the process of sending it back RMA. Hopefully they wont give me a hard time.
Thanks for the info guys.

I registered just to be nice to those asking about diygadgets shipping.
After ordering from diygadget, you will get an email from pleasedonotreply@trackmypak.com with the shipping information. Trackmypak is a third party site, so you might have ignored it. As for the shipping, the free shipping is through Canada Post. In other words, the post office. If you're in the US, it will take 5-10 days to reach you. You can go to trackmypak's website and put in your information (email and when you ordered) and they'll resend their email to you. As for where diygadget is located, during the ordering process, it said that TIAO was located in Toronto. Paying with paypal, the recipient was listed as TIAO. On the trackmypak, TIAO was also listed as the seller. Could be owner, parent company, or whatever. They're also the name printed on the boards.

In the tutorial, there is a download link for the flashing software.
For the HEX file, get the updated v1.2b1 from here. When you flash, choose the 12MHz.hex file instead of USB SPI HAX.hex.

Now if the programmer did arrive damaged, why did you not contact them immediately?
Did you already solder wires to the pads? Does the dented programmer work at least?

This is what the shipper told me.
amyno: "Buyer purchased one on May 1, 2010. Ordered another one last week and received it rather quickly. On his initial email, about the defective product, he was asked for pictures to show USPS about the shipping damage. He agreed to take pics so that I can file a complaint with the post office. Later on, posted this picture: http://img443.images...clintharper.jpg and said that
[1:08pm] amyno: the USB post looked like it was stepped on. Judging from this picture, does it look like stepping on this board would cause a sharp dent on a USB port, about 1cm by 1cm? I can guarantee you this would break off the board. Then later, when asked again, stated that the shipping container (the usps flat rate priority box) was fine and that the damage occurred before shipping. Also, looking at
[1:08pm] amyno: the pic, you can see the extent of the damage on the USB port. If you received something like this, would you not notice the damage, just leave it as is, and then email us first? This guy just accepted the damage, soldered the wires, hooked it up, and then complains that it does not work. Basically, what he did is purchase one before, it was damaged it up, ordered another one, and now is
[1:08pm] amyno: blaming us for it. There is no way anyone not notice that USB port being damaged that badly, especially when it was packaged by hand. If it somehow was damaged, the receiver would notice this and bring it up to our attention. His story does not add up at all. Board was fine before it was shipped, fine during shipping, as stated by him that he box was not damaged."

There is no tracking number so you don't receive one. A tracking number would cost additional $15+, so we decided to offer free shipping without tracking number to keep the price low. You will receive it very shortly.

Hi, NinjaOptimus:

thanks for the detailed info.
so far i only received a confirmation email after my order status was changed to 'completed'. there's an order# and a shipping# (is this the tracking number? it doesn't work on canada post site)
the trakcmypack thing fails for me when i enter my info , guess they didn't add my info for trackmypack.
The trackmypak.com is trick, don't forget about the date range, but you should have nothing to worry about as we ship daily (in another word, your order is shipped within 24 hours after your payment), except Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes we do ship on Saturdays.

My mailbox outside my house doesnt stay shut, and chances are when it gets here no one will mess with it, but I'm always paranoid when it comes to stuff like that.

Hello xbox360player.
thanks for clearing up any doubts. Yes i received reply to my ticket a few minutes ago.
I'm located in Pakistan, and Canada is on the other side of the globe so i was said my pacakge can take 2,3 weeks to reach.
Still i'm cool with it and i like diygadget (will order more spi jtags , hoping i get the first one fine )
And thanks for the coupon code. it helped.
I'll recommend diygadget to anyone looking to buy ps3 modchip related boards. they shipped mine out within 24 hours of ordering .
One request, i wish you guys accepted credit cards (without paypal). Paypal accounts aren't usable here and i had to transfer money to a friend's bank, and then he ordered via paypal for me, so i was limited to few orders caz of funds in his paypal.

I just saw that there is a ew feature added for peek & poke to load a firmware from a usb stick. Is there any possibility that the hex for the spi nand flashers will be recompiled with the new peek &poke feature? I did have a teensy board yesterday but sold it to a friend, When I woke up I saw the news about the new peek and poke feature & development into CFW for the ps3, But atm the files are for the teensy & at90usbkey. I dont think im allowed to say where I saw the news but its the equivilent to here but for ps3,s its the first page. If anyone could let me know if its possible to update the hex for peek and poke please let me know.
Thank you
Hi I just saw this morning that there is a new feature that people with teensy boards can use, The peek & poke & start of cfw (loading a update from usb stick) The files are there to download for at90usbkey,s that calculator & Teensy boards, Im just wondering if theres any possibilty of the hex file for the spi nand flasher being updated to incoperate this? I dont know if the spi flasher has a limitation to what it can do, It would just be nice to have this feature as i sold my teensy board yesterday ( I knew something would happen where you need a better supported chipset or whatever) .
Thanks

Got my chip today and worked great. Ordered from diygadget and it took a week for me to get it in SE USA. I wanted something to keep the chip safe from damage so I used one of those food containers thats too small for anything useful. I put a hole in it and used some foam sticky tape to hold it down.

hey,
what kind packaging did you receive the SPI Jtag from courier?
and
how many lights does this SPI JTAG have? does it show the status green when jtag is successful or it only has the main power LED?

well you are in the right forum. Now just go to the first page of this post for instructions
its all good im not bashing on what you did just offering a suggestion. If you drilled a hold in a altoids can and used double sided tape so the light shined through the hole. if you want it to be air tight you could put clear packing tape over the hole or hot glue

Hey guys well I internalized the 360 chip in my ps3 and put a switch on the red wire and ground to be able to use my usb port still if some one can answer me about the1.3 led crazy that'd be super guessi might have to do some digging. Also d magic that hex you posted is it for the 360 spi jtag from diygadget
Ps this is the cechl01 model i took the while thing apart it took me forever to figure out how to take the mother board out then afterwards I realized I didn't even have to remove the motherboard:) anyways I had to redo the thermal compound because of that hope I did it right:) used the good stuff arctic silver5. Anyways I used hot glue on the board after I finished soldering to make sure my connections would hold up

hey guys the link in the op, I don't believe is the latest one, if you click on the psx-scene link all of this stuff came linked from there.
In the faq it says 1.3 has lv2 the latest psgroove with peek and poke. I'm using the 1.3 led crazy one that was provided in this thread for now, I tried searching for another one that was a little bit more up to date, and the one I found was illness but his didnt work with pdfusb so I opted not to use it.
Dude Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure its safe to flash whatever hex on here as long as its not a boot hex. there is a separate hex for the bootloader, so you should be safe. Just choose cancel when you get an error with the program, that you get from the link for the tutorial in the op of this forum.
Program should say flash successful if it worked. If you use the hex I used in this thread, use pins 19 and 22 on the pic chip for the xbox 360 spi jtag. If you don't know what those pins are just go on google images and punch in the pic18f2455 and look at the diagrams.
Also I bought my chip from DIYGadget it was free shipping no tracking Number, but it came packaged up perfectly nothing was damaged, and came within 5-10 buisness days as promised, I got it the 7th buisness day.

reflash the original hex for the taio. Once this is back on select the new hex you want on their and when the yes/no/cancel box pops up click cancel. You want to use the settings allready on the chip.

Just flash as normal, Clicking cancel when the pop up box comes up.
I can confirm 100% its working, Im very pleased now as it saves me keep using my bluray drive for no apprent reason.
I hope this helps people out as it wasnt "difficult" to find, Just a bit awkward as everything is still work in progress and stuff I didnt know if it was the right one but it is.
Big thanks to the creator for this, Real pleased like I said before. My bluray drive should last for ages now
This will need work for sure. Reminds me of the drivers for the PSP, some games will need a certain one, and some will need a dvd. Either way its safe to update Backup Manager, and the payload and just use a disc for the ones that do not load the other way around. What I really want edited is the damn Yes/No question when backup manager starts!

As far as im aware the one I posted does have peek & poke syscalls. I would use the hex that Looouky posted though, As his is 1.5 mine was 1.3 so i think its old now? Also some games dont load either, Like sports champions & start the party, They load perfectly with the old backup manger though (Using new hex) So not sure whats up there, I hear its a common prooblem, Some games load some dont. I thought all my games was fine till todaywhen i tried the psmove games.

Yes it has peek n poke 100% sure as I just did a LV2 dump to test. And I just keep two backup loaders the PS3hax stealth one and the patched one that launches games from the loader instead of the XMB. The stealth one while useless as we can't go online has a different title ID so it doesn't install over the other one. And to all who care yes this new loader doesn't support all games but it does function like the old one as well so long as you have a disc inside so you won't lose any compatibility you just have to load with a disc inside the drive for certain games.

Ok, so if I do use the new Backup Mananger and hermes new hex, I can retain compatibility by simply having a blue ray in the drive. I'm also confused.....do games still go into GAMEZ on the root of the USB? Keep a disc in to retain 100% compat? I still need to go into backup manager to get the game to later show up in XMB.

Woah, Can't believe I got my batch of Jtag SPIs so fast from DIYGadget. I was told it'll take 2,3 weeks to Pakistan.
It arrived on a surprised 10th day from Canada. you guys rock.
I'm using the correct HEX file on my JTAG SPI, but when i flash my jtag spi from PICDEM FS USB tool, and i click on "program it button" it gives me an error after 9,10 seconds .
is this because my modchip has a bootloader installed? i read somewhere about OFFset some code caz it has bootloader, someone plze help.
i'm using 2455 PIC based one from diygadget.

the hex can be flashed on diygadget based 360 SPI JTaGs,
but selecting CANCEL, instead of NO (on the configuration overwrite prom't), when asked about configuration file, during HEX file selection proces.

I think i'm missing one step in the process. I got everything running to the point where I can run backups off a USB drive but I'm not able to copy to the internal disk. Anyone have a tip or run into the same issue?

I used these files to program the PIC18f2455 and works like a charm!!!
Download pack : contain: -windows driver for the board -the programmer -and the latest hex (psgroove hermes) with peek poke and works with backup manager v2 (no blu-ray disc support) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WMFT2K6Y
when iam loaded the hex i've got a pop-up window with 3 options (yes,no,cancel). i've choose "no" then click programm device and when it finished came an error message but the board is succesfully programmed and works!!!

Can someone clear this up for me. Flashing with hermes payload as posted abov (the 1st .hex, not the 2nd .hex on psx-scene, you know what I'm talking about) and installing bootloader v2.....okay thats all fine and dandy.
However there have been alot of complaints in terms of reliability, and yet teams like PS3Key are relasing the same stuff claiming it works......does it work? Is this stuff 100% or does it suffer the same stuff as the homebrew versions?

I think you flash the main.hex found in the "PIC18f2455 12MHZ BOOTLOADER B5" folder in the pack lew000 linked to. Then install manager2.pkg found at PSGroove.com via flash drive. From what i have read compatibility is the same as the previous backup manager as long as you have an original in the BR drive.
I'm still waiting for my diygadget board...i ordered it last Saturday and it still hasnt arrived, and i live in canada. Why it takes over 5 business days to get from ontario to bc is way beyond me, they should atleast offer express post!

PS3Key is releasing the same stuff. thats why they thanked Hermes in their release notes.
And they mentioned with the update that if a game doesn't load without disc, then try inserting an original disk.
Herme's update is a good step forward but so far its incomplete and i'm sticking with BakcupManager 1.0. (caz if i've to insert the original disc for some games with Hermes' payload, why not let the original disc inside all the time *like i currently do*, and play with the full backupManager1.0 compatibility). less headace ;p

I ordered from DiyGadget a bunch of the JTAG SPIs, .. their support told me it'd take 2,3 weeks to Pakistan. ;p luckily I got the package on 10th day (today) since it was dispatched.
Not bad i'd say

Unless you absolutely want F1 to work, it's a waste of time. The new code is buggy and breaks features.
I've read that the new Open Backup Manager, which fixes controller sync issues, works with Hermes v1.
Also despite having been PSGrooving for 3 weeks now, I never bothered to say thanks to Looouky for the guide and confirming that the board I bought would work.

I just compiled Open BM myself, so I can see if I can take a crack at this. I'm going to wait until hermes releases the new payload though as many have said R2 is terrible.

Mine was ordered on a Tuesday and shipped the Thursday and I didn't get it until the following Thursday.
Mine was ordered from the same place, came out of Markham Ontario, I am 1.5 hours east of there. Came standard Canada Post and in a small shipping envelope.
Relax, it should be there in a short time. IF they ship everything out of the same place, might have got held up at customs.
I have learned over the years, if you want it NOW, go out and find it. If not order it online! haha
I Still have a PSKey or whatever it is coming from Hong Kong. I don't expect that until November! lol.

Hi everyone I just tried this method and I'm getting "An Unknown Device has been connected" error when the PS3 turns on.
Here is my info:
I am using:
At first I tried exactly as said and chose "no" during the flashing process. I got the same error, "Unknown device connected"
Second time I reflashed and hit "cancel". I'm still getting the same error.
Both times the light remains red on the microchip. I've gotten the payload to work with my droid so I'm pretty sure my timing isn't off when it comes to powering up the ps3.
Can someone please guide me as what to do next? Did I disable the development board by hitting "no" during the flashing process?
Thanks

I was listening to iLLNESS and another person talking in irc about the hex files and apparently, the frequency of the crystal and actual Pic (as long as it's in the 18F family) aren't important if you use a bootloader. When you flash your 360 usb spi, that prompt comes up with yes, no, cancel for the bootloaders settings. You hit cancel because the device already comes with the bootloader set up with the right configuration. The hex has it's own device settings, but they are ignored if you hit cancel. That's why iLLNESS's hex file is labeled 18Fxxxx. At least, that's what I understood from the conversation.
As for the " Unknown Device connected" message on your ps3, is install package and app/home still showing up? With Waninkoko's payload (psgroopic 1.6x), the device (in this case, the 360 usb spi jtag board) turns off after the payload is delivered and an error message (can't remember which) pops up on your ps3 over and over again until you unplug the board. Also, you did remember to move the jumper out of bootloader mode, right?

Thanks got it working now! All I did was connect the jumper and then disconnect it. Now I see install package and app/home showing up! I wonder why I had to reseat the jumper...
The red light is on but I guess it just stays on in this case.
So I should not be too worried about the bootloader then? I don't want the chip to stop working down the road due to this stupid mistake.
so you hit cancel when flash and then set back the jumper from bootloader mode???

First time I flashed I hit "no". It didn't work.
Second time I reflashed and hit "Cancel". It didn't work.
So then I connected the device to my computer, connected the jumper, disconnected the jumper, and tried it again (by connecting to the ps3).
It worked first try. I'm not sure why but it works now and I'm happy!
If I wanted to update all I would have to do is put the jumper back on and reflash correct?

VonSwoopington, this is what iLLNESS said over at psx-scene.
QUOTE
if you flash a hex to your board and the bootloader does not have its config bits locked, you will brick the board if your settings do not match.
it is also possible for my releases to brick your board but i leave that up to you to figure out beforehand. users using the picdem bootloader flashing over usb will never brick their boards with my hexes as long as they hit cancel when loading the hex.
just an FYI.
lew000, the manufacturers instructions are pretty clear.
Go down to "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface" and instead of the "PICFLASH_v3b_plus2" hex, you use the psgroopic hex and you hit cancel at the prompt since these hex files aren't tailor made ONLY for our boards. Stop when the guide mentions "NANDPro2d" and it's ready to go. For updating, put it back in bootloader mode and flash it like the first time. The program will erase and reflash the board.

running a spi with 1st hack works great but would love to update it no cd etc
but everything on ps3 currently seems chaotic trying to fallow a post gets to be a pain
is there a simple precompiled way to flash the pic i have read many forums and posts and have 20 dif compiles from all over the net seems it would be a little less chaotic usually scenes are a little more structured
I imagine its caused by way to many devices used to run the hack

That depends. You can just read the main news pages on psx-scene, ps3hax, ps3news, etc to know when a new payload is out. But for the actual precompiled hex, I have been following this thread
Since that's where iLLNESS has been posting them, just go to the last page and work backwards. But he recently started a thread that would probably be much better
It's full of extremely useful information and all the hexes you could need that are compatible with the 360 USB SPI board. The latest hexes are 1.7a and 1.6c, both of which are posted there.
hmmmmmmmmm? ive always flashed the pic psgroove to my nandflasher with a pic18f2550 chip... always worked like a charm with no difficulties,or is it for another board in combination with the pic?

I ordered the DIYGadget usb device and I followed the steps outlined in the first post. It did not mention to hit `cancel' when you see the flash prompt. I chose `yes' and it is not working (on 3.41). I read in later posts that I should have picked `cancel'.

hey dude see if you can flash again if you can just choose cancel. if you click on the illness link from the two posts ahead. I believe its the hermes v4b 3.41 usb hid hex that you want to flash. Theres like two of those I believe or maybe three, just try flashing one then plugging it in and see if it works if it don't then flash the next.
But, you might not have overwrote your bootloader, cause I've hit no before and it never did. chances are what you flashed had a compatible boot loader. So if your not getting an error and it says flash complete or doesnt say anything you should be good. Just try another hex dude! you should be able to flash the original using a programmer which you would either have to make if possible or buy.... but if your gonna do that I would contact diy and see if you send them yours back if they can send ya another, and just be honest about your screw up I'm sure they'll work with ya Seriously be honest because he'll know your not hes on this thread from time to time...

What is the difference between
PICDEM USB Bootloader
and
USBHID Bootloader
People who are using the Xbox 360 USB SPI sold by DIY.....they are USBHID Bootloader users, correct?
Where does PICDEM come into the fray?

I am still hanging on a black screen at start up and hope somebody can tell me where I have gone wrong. I just updated to firmware 3.15.
I have a PIC18F2455 I set it to bootloader mode and flashed it with PICFLASH.hex
Then I loaded the LEDB145C0-1-iLLNESS-PL3-276-default_pl-753eade44e2eb9fcf2a5-PICDEM.hex found here. http://psx-scene.com...6946-post2.html There were a lot of hex files in the rar so I picked the first one that said default.
When I loaded it I got the error message and hit cancel. Then programed the device.
Then I unpluged it swiched it out of bootloader mode and plugged it in the Playstation. Powered it up and hit eject immediatly. Nothing but black screne.
Any thoughts?

Wrong hex file, DTR1. That one is for firmware 2.76. For 3.15, you'll want LEDB145C0-1-iLLNESS-PL3-315-default_pl-753eade44e2eb9fcf2a5-PICDEM.hex
That was it. Thanks. I was not associating the numbers with the firmware that I am running.
