Title: Force Fw Update
Post by: R.MnTnA on March 05, 2008, 03:06:00 PM
Anyway to get the PS3 to update the FW other than going through the menu to do it? I think I have a PS3 with corrupted FW that I would like to reflash if possible. Keep getting Blue Screen "Setting information is corrupted.Press the x button to repair and restore default". Anyway to force a firmware update?

It just keeps looping. I tried 2 new hard drives too.

I'm on 2.01 and will stay there for a good while to see what will come of the RSX capabilities smile.gif
Anyways, to use that update, put it on memstick/disc like this:

X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP

Then go to the update section on ps3 and update when you are offline smile.gif

I bought it used  AS-IS and I was trying to fix it. Maybe it's the BIOS and not the FW but at this point I tried a few things, but I can't get into the menu of the PS3 to load another OS. So far I tried a2 new HD, tried a new HD from another PS3, and even put the update on a usb device and a MS Duo to try to boot up to it, plus holding down the select & start keys. I got that idea after seeing the messages below, after buying a new PS3 and removing the HD and installed a larger one, before even starting it up for the first time. Here is the screen shots-

Is there any evidence that this ps3 got opened?
My bet is someone attempted to dump and reflash nands with infectus and failed. Maybe he found a way to cut a wire in the ps3<=>hdd link so it appears as some hdd malfunction? Anything could have happened to this ps3...

No It doesn't look like it was taken apart or opened in any way.
